PlayStation 5 Pro To Release Together With Base Model – Rumor (Based on Speculation/Opinion)

They're probably trying the same strategy as 360 when it launched. The Core console vs the Pro meant a few extras that you could eventually upgrade to, like a bigger HDD.
It really is nothing out of the ordinary. SKUs that differ on storage are indeed common since last gen.

Maybe this is a pro version like the xbox 360 where the difference was hdd size.

Maybe it will be 500gb ssd vs 2tb ssd. Something that doesn't impact performance directly?

Edit. Someone beat me too it.

The speculation of the rumor itself?

(I bit too earlier in the thread).

The rumor itself. One of the main points of making a "PRO" version of the console is that Sony can take advantage of technology that comes out years after the OG system is released PLUS sell it at a high cost so that you can see and feel the difference between the two consoles.

A $600 PS4 at launch wouldn't have been the PS4 Pro we have today. It would have been a worse product. And it would have cost $200 more than the current version of the PS4 Pro also. There's very little upside to selling a PRO model at launch, "compared" to waiting 2 or 3 years.

Excellent points.

It doesn't make sense until you think about how much it may cost to launch this rumored 11-12TF PS5.

Everyone is underestimating the amount of wariness Sony might have with not being able to launch at $399. In that case releasing 2 models at launch is more about being able to cater to the mainstream audience, while also not being the 1440p generation for those that care.

It's not even a "rumor". It was just some Japanese journalist speculating on what he thinks or wants to see.

Fake news props it up as, a "rumor".

We have zero idea how powerful the PS5 will be and how much it will cost. There's been no news. Not even leaks.

Sounds great! That will give game developers much more freedom in creating their games. Better graphics, more fps, faster loading on PRO, and a bit cut games on regular PS5.
