PlayStation has also announced that Zero Dawn has sold over 20 million copies

Is it just me, or does this board keep getting more and more obsessed with numbers, especially as far as sales and players are concerned?

Right now on the first page alone we have:

  • PlayStation has also announced that Zero Dawn has sold over 20 million copies
  • NPD January 22 Results - PS #1 Units and Revenue
  • God of War hit's 2M+ sales on STEAM... according to SteamSpy
  • The Last of Us: Part II now has over 320 Game of the Year awards
  • Lost Ark is doing crazy numbers.
  • Grounded hit 10m player mark
  • Nintendo Switch is the fastest selling home console to reach 100 million mark
  • More than 60,000 Battlefield 2042 Players Have Petitioned For Their Money Back

Maybe it's time for a separate board for this stuff.

Wow, 20 million for a new IP is MASSIVE. That that's an insane achievement for Guerilla
I think Ghost of Tsushima can do the same here once it gets ported to PC.

God of War wasn't a new IP but it was a reboot and I think you'll see it do even more than 20 million when it is all said and done.

I think SIE is sitting on a war chest of untapped monies.

What new Nintendo single player New IP has sold more than 20 million? Please.
What new Nintendo single player New IP sells for $15? They're not directly comparable.

Sony 1st party is huge. Nintendo 1st party is huge. Going forward on PS5 they will be more similar in terms of pricing strategy from the looks of it, with Sony also having some stuff on PC.

You guys don't know how to take good news. All you've done is try to bait Nintendo and Xbox fans in this thread. Literally no one is downplaying the success of this series or even saying anything negative about it.

That's why I distributed several empathy emojis. Imagine a game you love sells incredibly well and your first reaction is to try to bait console wars. Kinda sad.

These are their top-selling IP according to them and it is mostly the older IPs that are pulling those numbers. Sony isn't getting enough credit here as some of their IP is hitting those numbers too. GOW 19+ million, Uncharted 4 20+ million, Horizon 20+ million, Spiderman* 20+ million, etc.

  • Mario Kart 8 Deluxe - 43.35 million pcs.
  • Animal Crossing: New Horizons - 37.62 million pcs.
  • Super Smash Bros. Ultimate - 27.40 million pcs.
  • The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild - 25.80 million pcs.
  • Pokémon Sword/Pokémon Shield - 23.90 million pcs.
  • Super Mario Odyssey - 23.02 million pcs.
  • Super Mario Party - 17.39 million pcs.
  • Pokémon: Let's Go, Pikachu!/Pokémon: Let's Go, Eevee! - 14.33 million pcs.
  • Pokémon Brilliant Diamond / Pokémon Shining Pearl - 13.97 million pcs.
  • Ring Fit Adventure - 13.53 million pcs.

GOW is already well past 20 million, it was 19.5 last year, with pc version it's a given

Nintendo has traditionally avoided / struggled making new IP. Sony has traditionally struggled maintaining their IP, and instead just makes new IP work more frequently. Definitely different strategies and different strengths.

Sony seems more interested in preserving their IP relevance now.

The data from Nov 28, 2021 lol

Really massive. I guess some people were wrong once again. People see value and people spend money.
This is good to show to those that say Sony first party isn't in the same league that Nintendo's that they're also wrong.
Please Taybot stop doing this, I beg.

Mario Kart 8 and Animal Crossing have sold 80m copies between them, that's 20m more than Horizon, GoW and Spider-Man combined.

Games that Nintendo shit out in half an hour on a budget of £60 and a packet of bubblegum, like Mario Party, sell 18m copies.

If you compare the top selling 20 Sony made games on the PS4/5 the Switch has probably shifted 100m more units and that's a conservative estimate.

Anyway, good figures for Guerrilla, I'm glad to see the defensive brigade so happy in here.

Consider for a moment the following games that sony is setting on or potentially sitting on that could come to PC

Spider-Man
Spider-Man Miles Morales
Last of Us Remake (PS4 and PS5)
Last of Us 2
Ghost of Tsushima
Infamous Second Son
Bloodborne Remastered (PS5)
Demon's Souls
Gran Turismo 7
God of War 1-3 Remakes (PS4, PS5)
God of War Ragnarok
Uncharted Collection (or remakes)
LittleBigPlanet ???
Dreams (PS5)

You're easily looking at billions of dollars here.

Quite a big deal and I think it actually says quite a bit about the importance of PC to Sony going forward.

The game had sold 10 million on PS4 by 2019 and was released in February 2017. Horizon was not on the best-selling list for 2018, so the idea that it sold millions and millions more on PS4 is unlikely. I'm guessing a good percentage of this is PC sales.

With constraints on PS5 hardware sales this generation, they're going to lean hard on PC. Day and date? I don't know or care, but I think you're going to see almost all of their games released on PC going forward. Too much money to ignore.

10 million copies @ 50 dollars a pop? 500 million in revenue, minus steam royalties. Just for one game. A handful of games gives you enough money to go out and buy studios.

Spider-Man Remastered on PC is going to be a huge hit.
Uh no... The vast majority were PS4. PC probably only got a couple million.

You've misread this. I didn't say the majority wasn't PS4. I said that 2 years after release it was at 10 million and you never saw it on the NPD charts again. So the idea that it sold an extra 5 million on PS4 is unlikely. It would have been on the charts if it had those type of legs.

It's been in charts. PC is probably 3 million max.

That's my point, my point is that it is selling faster than Horizon on PC, which means if Horizon sold anywhere close to 10 million on PC, God of War will do at least the same. 30+ million for God of War overall would be a serious success. Especially if they go back and remake the first 3 games using the new style and engine. That can really fuel Santa Monica to do whatever they want going forward.

bullshit

Amazon doesn't mean anything...
You know… US doesn't mean anything too… it is only 30% of PS4 userbase.

PC sales on Steam are at max 2 million… everything else are PS4 or EGS… do you really want to believe EGS sold more than Steam? Crazy.

Easily one of my top ten games of last gen.

Play New Game Plus on Ultra Hard. It's tough in parts but not major. Just progress the main story

I 100% the ng+ and the main mistake I made was not maxing out the pouches beforehand. Its even better than I remember on my first run. The lore is incredible.

I'm not a huge fan of playing a game twice. Thank you for the suggestion though.

No new IP on that list over 20 million.

Not the best PS4 exclusive, but still was good and quite impressive for a first try in the genre for Guerrila.

Can't wait for Part 2, looking forward to see how much it will step up from the first game.

20 million copies sold for a new IP is amazing, no matter how you try to spin it.

That's basically The Last of Us amazing.

Well, the game was 9.99 $ the GOTY. And part of the ps4 mega bundle... Its normal that it have this number of copies... And The costumers of Steam...

And? It's not all videogames that sell at 9,99 get to see the 20M mark. Specially considering most of these sales happened when the game wasn't at that price.

You're also not taking into consideration the number of people that played it and never bought it since it's on PSNow, it was given for free in numerous PlayStation initiatives, it's on PS Plus Collection as well, etc...

Very impressive, the top sellers on the PS4 are far outselling the PS3 top games, Sony is crushing it on the software side.
