PlayStation Network Thread (Vita/PS3/PS4) | June 2014

Toukiden acquired! I've been jonesing a good hunting action (is that really the genre name?) game on Vita. I tried to love Soul Sacrifice but I hate limited-use items and it just wasn't clicking.

Debating on Ni No Kuni - not even for the price, as that's impulse-buy turf, but just knowing I'll almost never have any chance of finishing it. It might be worth five bones just to see it in motion, though. Is it turn-based or active? What's the closest analogue in terms of other JRPGs?

I bought Ni no Kuni for 6 bucks and I didn't like it. I'd say it's semi-active. There are menus (Attack, Defense, Stuff) but everything happens real time. For example, you press attack. Battle freezes, you select a target. Then a clock appears, your minion runs through the enemy and attacks him until the clock is empty. Then you press a command again.

Main problem is that AI is terrible and there aren't enough options for customization. Tales doesn't have the best AI ever, but at least there are a ton of customization options in the strategy menu. The ones in this game aren't enough.

I can't remember if Toukiden has limited use weapons... in the sense that they degrade over time and you have to use items to make them "sharp" again (like Monster Hunter)...

Your weapons doesn't suffer degradation on the Vita.

STAGE ONE, get three highly requested indie games ported to Vita

"Hi, we'd like you to port this game to Vita"
"What's a Vita? Goodbye"

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=09s-c2JVI40

With rythm stages ala Danganronpa when you block the haters that spam stuff and insult you on Twitter.

Each time one of those tweets hit you you get a "-2 enthusiasm" debuff that makes it harder to impress indie devs :P

I just thought this may be a common thing that I can fix myself.. Seems like that isn't the case.

Checked the situation in Germany, I have a one year warranty so I sent them an email explaining the problem. Let's hope they'll fix it :x

Here's what my screen looks like atm:

It's so sad

Uhh, so I actually managed to fix this myself.. for now. Googled around a bit and saw that this was a relatively common error for normal LCD displays and people were successful in fixing it by applying light pressure to the edges of the screen where the line starts.

I did this and it actually disappeared.
Now I don't know if this is good or bad. I started the RMA process and they obviously won't do anything now since the fault is gone, but it might just reappear at some point and maybe I'm out of the warranty period by then. :/ EDIT: It actually reappears as soon as I apply pressure to that specific point again. Seems like a loose contact or something of that nature?

Happened to my PSP quite frequently and yes my usual fix is just applying pressure to the umd slot at the back. I'd stick some paper and just close the umd tray forcefully and viola it's fixed.

Better just send it to Sony if you have an insurance though.

anyone still using Guncon? haha
and hmm thinking of upgrading to a 1TB SSHD for my PS3.. does it actually help w loading times

I use one as my Steam drive (Seagate 750GB SSHD), it's pretty good for the price.

I think files get cached after loading the same game 3-4 times, and the speed becomes comparable to a real SSD.

My Vita charger cable hasn't arrived yet so I can't play my Vita. I'm not paying PS+ until I can play my Vita again. Ni no Kuni is boring. My Tales of Xillia disc is still missing so I can't start a New Game +. And I've finished Gintama, which I've been watching for the past 2 weeks (there are a few standalone chapter I skipped).

Hope it arrives on Friday... until then, I think there is some book I bought last week I need to finally start reading xD

Not much. It only helps with repeated loading patterns (same game, same level), and the benefits for one scneario quickly go away if you "train" it on a different one.

I have it in my PS3 4k. XMB is nice and fast, definitely an improvement over ye ole slim 120GB stock drive. Game loading times are still all over the place though.

If you play a lot of stuff randomly and want good disk performance, I'd rather recommend a standard 7200rpm drive (Seagate SSHD are all 5400rpm).

"@konamieu: Gradius Collection will only be playable on the PSP"

It seems like there is a campaign by Konami to bring other psp games to psn - don't be fooled into thinking these will work on Vita too.

Wait, then what's the bloody point of doing it now?

Nice, thanks! I expect to see some impressions from GAF too, but I don't remember who bought JP SSD (baekshi?)

And my Kiwami demo download will finish right when I need to get out to work. Such timing~

Its amazing how fervent the hunting games are on Vita in the absence of the Mac Daddy MonHun

I love it though I remain baffled that Capcom only felt the need to limp in with Frontier on the system

I would have at least expected upgraded ports of 2nd and 3rd. Seems like they are missing out on easy 100K+ sales

Can someone convince me to finish Persona 4: Golden? I'm at what I think to be the final dungeon
Nanako is in there
, but god damn 50 hours in the combat is incredibly tedious.

You're getting into some of the bigger plot moments of the game and also some of the best story stuff, but sorry, you're nowhere near the final dungeon.
2 more to go if you want to go for true ending.

More like 1000K+ sales - GE2 easily shifted 400k copies on Vita alone

If you need convincing to do something after spending 50 hours with it then chances are it isn't for you. I've played through P4 several times 100+ hours every time and never found the combat tedious personally, in fact I love the combat system. Just thinking about it makes me want to start a new play through lol.

GE2 did 400k in Japan alone on Vita?

Damn son

Wtf Capcom. I know they made bank on 3DS but they could have easily made a nice chunk from Vita as well even with a cheap throwaway port LOL

Anyways Excited to start hearing more impressions of Freedom Wars! Seems like it will be legitimately disruptive in the Genre

Lots of cool ideas!

Thanks, you're right. I just lost interest in the combat, I personally find it simplistic and repetitive. I guess I'm quitty.

I've seen some Freedom Wars talk in this thread, since the demo for SSD owners was released yesterday.
Since I cleared it a while ago, I've made a thread for impressions.

Hey guys,

Just a question regarding renewing ps+.

Its coming up to that time (20 days left!) from my 1 year subscription.

How does it work when you renew?

If I renewed tomorrow, would I get the 1+ year subscription from tomorrow (losing 20 days) or will it add onto the 20 days I have left, so if i renew tomorrow, it should expire end of june next year?

Thanks in advance.

Subbed to FW thread as well.

FW was like a rollercoaster for me...from me liking it to not...but the impressions in the thread were very good, and I look forward to hearing what more people are saying.

From what I remember, it will be added to the actual expiration date of your current sub. However, the stupid PS Plus download list jumble will get you when you activate or renew the sub.

Apparently the game is playable on Vita in the US.
What's the reasoning here?

I 'just' put in a 1tb SSHD in my 60g PS3.

It really doesn't do too much for load times because the internal interface speed isn't that fast. I did it mainly for the space to hold the massive list of PS+ games I have available.

I couldn't justify a SSHD for my PS3, I got a 1 TB for $40 and at the time SSHDs were going for $80+ for the same size. For reasons unknown, though, now normal HDs are $80 and SSHDs are $95, so it actually could be a choice. What the hell is going on with HD prices anyway? But yea, I think SSHD makes more of a difference in a PS4 than it does in a PS3, I upgraded almost entirely for the extra space for digital games on my PS3.

yea I'm thinking of that too. but if a SSHD isn't gonna give improvements, maybe I'll just look into a normal drive

Either licensing or something to do with the PAL vs. NTSC stuff?

I was too broke during the Black Friday sale to do it'll this year I'm going to extend my membership to 2017 if the deals are right lol. My membership ends in 1 month and a couple weeks.

I just keep picking them up when they have those promos where there's a good deal. I didn't actually bother on black friday because I had about 2 years stockpiled and I figured there'd be another sale before I ran out if I was still invested in PS by the time one happened.

Yeah, I was thinking about getting a 500gb, or even 250gb for my brother's PS3 to store all my Plus games. Compared to Vita cards, they're peanuts!

Remember Vita cards max space is 3.3GB while Blu-Ray's are up to 50GB...

You'll soon discover the truth
about how developers don't give a shit and upload >30GB games. Uncharted 3 cutscenes are so heavy...

Since it's finally out in EU, Monster Monpiece.

That game, P4G, Muramasa, Conception 2, Dragon's Crown, Atelier Totori+ all filled my 16gb card.

gunship X coming to vita

I’m happy to announce that Gunship X is coming to PS Vita later this year. If you’re around E3 next week, swing on by the Sony booth to say hello and to give it a try. I love my Vita, and after six years of iOS development I’m really excited about returning to console development — and I’m glad we can do it with Gunship X.

Gunship X is a top down shooter inspired by arguably one of the most memorable parts of Call of Duty Modern Warfare (the AC-130 mission) with a sprinkle of Starship Troopers. Take control of an AC-130 Gunship to defend humanity from invading hordes. Push back the intruders and give the humans a chance to be airlifted to safety with the awesome arsenal at your disposal. Quickly switch between weapons as they reload or cool off to ensure maximal alien carnage. Upgrade your airplanes and their weapons with your earnings and then go out on another bombing and rescue run.
We created Gunship X to provide an intense bite sized experience for players on the go. The action ramps up quickly with most games ending in about five minutes. First and foremost this was achieved by carefully tuning levels. As a player you’re immediately confronted with enemies that demand attention, but that do not put you in immediate peril. This gives you a moment to look around, spot friendlies, and gather yourself before unleashing your weapons. The intensity quickly ramps up from there as you see friendlies abducted and taken off the edge of the game board. Over time, you have to balance your focus between saving humans to maximize earnings, keeping the landing zone clear of hostiles, and dispatching the bomber aliens that can shoot you down.
Gunship X on PS Vita

Gunship X is developed by a team of two artists and two engineers living in parts of the United States (California) and The Netherlands. We will ship Gunship X later this year with at least two airplanes (AC-130, AC-17, and maybe a secret 3rd plane ;) ) and over thirty levels spread across at least four unique battle fields. In addition to the missions you can play a survival mode where you’ll put your skills to the test to see how long you can last before getting shot down or overrun by aliens. Keep an eye on the PlayStation.Blog, like us over on Facebook, and follow us on Twitter to stay up to date with our progress.

So apparently Monster Monpiece isn't coming to Australia at all. I'm so fucking mad. I can't seem to find the reason why but I'm guessing it's our archaic ratings board holding it back.

Whatever, I can't even import it because it's digital only.

Seriously, God damn it.

Soul Sacrifice is like $7 right now... Should I get it, or is Delta superior to it in every way? I liked the demo!

Delta is superior in every way. If you like the demo and want more of that then get Delta. It literally makes the original feel like an unfinished game.

Is 1001 spikes available for vita in eu?

Nope, not yet.
