PlayStation Network Thread (Vita/PS3/PS4) | June 2014

Beat Rayman Legends. Collected all the teensies and the lummie goals. Only 56% trophies unlocked. Fuuucckkk this. Gonna move on now. Not worth getting the rest

Weak Week? Worst E3 ever. No new vita games. Okayish Ps4 games. Okayish Xbone games. Okayish WiiU games and Okayish 3DS games.

Even the WiiU gets better support than Vita.

I knew this would be horrid for Vita, so I held a low standard:
-Bigger memory cards/cheaper memory cards
-Persona 5 via Playstation Now
-FFXII HD or FF Type 0
-Persona 3 Platinum
-PS Vita Instant Collection refresh
-Decent PSN Vita sale
-New version of Guacamelee coming to PS Vita
-A cool, $40 fighter/platformer/RPG I'd be interested in
-L2/R2 Peripheral
Any one of these and I would have been happy. They couldn't even meet one of those. I went in not thinking I could be dissapointed, that they could get just one of those things. But not even one. They couldn't meet one of these goals. They're not even super unrealistic. They're all fairly possible things that could happen.

Yeah. We all should twitter adam, yosp and shahid. And tell them how angry we are.

That's not a low standard at all.

In fact some of them fall into incredibly unlikely speculation.

You could have just written down : One PSVITA exclusive title.

You would still be disappointed.

Only two things came : Montage of Crossbuy indie titles that were already announced, Playstation Now for Vita

So, PlaystationTV and Playstation Now together kind of make the Vita totally irrelevant as a platform, don't they? With now, Devs can just make a PS3/PS4 game and get a Vita game for free out of it while shooting for a bigger target audience on a bigger platform, and TV basically removes any reason most consumers would want to own a Vita, since it plays Vita games too.

Bummer, but I suppose it's not like Vita support could get any worse.

At least I'm gonna get Grim Mothafucking Fandango on it. As far as I'm concerned, that alone makes it a better Vita E3 than I went in expecting.

I'd say Gamescom will be better but it's pretty obvious we wont get any software announcements on the scale of Killzone or Tearaway for Vita.

At least TGS might have Gravity Rush 2.

Which ones? Aside from maybe P5 via PSNow, I'd say that they're all not too unrealistic. I mean, christ, the only specific titles I mentioned were ports of games that already had previous entries in their series on the Vita (or PSP, in Type 0's case). Price drops and sales aren't unrealistic. The accessory, maybe, but it's fairly requested. Hell, even a $40 game I'd be interested in shouldn't be unrealistic when I give it 3 genres to fall into. I don't even think one in any of those genres was even announced.

My confidence in the games I've been looking forward to for Vita has been taken down massive amounts.

I'm talking previously announced games.

This E3 has me convinced these games will never come out or be cancelled outright. Maybe it's no hands on impressions or any coverage of the games... or just the way SCEA is dumping everything Vita out.

I don't know man, it's really disheartening.

Yeah man. Grim Fandango is awesome.

I missed everything from E3 and my only source of information is Amir0x' thread. So it looks like Sony abandoned the Vita again for E3 and nothing was shown? Also, the fuckers from Square Enix slap the Vita fans in the face with the shitty PS4/XBO announcement which the EU Blog mistakes for a Vita game? I think I will boycott everything from SE going on. Tomb Raider, Final Fantasies, etc. will be used purchases on home consoles, no money for these assholes (please no blabla about economics and opportunity costs, I don't buy that excuse).

Only positive thing is Grim Fandango for Vita?

Someone please tell me that that thread doesn't have all the information :(

My low standard was just to see some more on already announced games, like maybe a date for Freedom Wars or some footage of Gravity Rush 2. I was still let down. Amazing.

Grim Fandango really is fantastic news though.

The typo announcement hurts so bad.

This E3 for Vita owners is like when Zune tattoo guy gave up and bought an iPod.
Why bother if the company who makes the product doesn't even care

I knew this would be horrid for Vita, so I held a low standard:
-Bigger memory cards/cheaper memory cards
-Persona 5 via Playstation Now - (they wouldn't announce this now, games for PSNow announcements will come later)
-FFXII HD or FF Type 0
-Persona 3 Platinum - (LOL, announced at E3? Nah. TGS if ever)
-PS Vita Instant Collection refresh - (Nope, haven't you heard the news about the IGC?)
-Decent PSN Vita sale - (NA gets shafted on holidays/events, though they usually have better weekly sales than Europe)
-New version of Guacamelee coming to PS Vita
-A cool, $40 fighter/platformer/RPG I'd be interested in
-L2/R2 Peripheral - (No need to mention why this shit be cray)

All those.

This is the part that stings the most. SCEJ is getting some interesting Japanese stuff on the platform. Shahid at SCEE is working his ass off getting us some great indie and multiplat games. SCEA couldn't even be arsed to show a sizzle reel. SCEA literally refuses to market the thing.

Contrast that to what nintendo showed for the Wii U today (which is selling even worse than vita)... night and day.

All those.

I adressed those, aside from the sale. How is a bloody sale unlikely? Even Nintendo has a fucking sale, and they never do. I mean, if they're gonna basically tell Vita owners to fuck off, they can at least let us buy some of the things they already have for cheaper.
But, I mean. I wanted just one of those. You even admitted that the others aren't super unrealistic. They couldn't even meet that bar.

Playing Borderlands 2 now and it's pretty fun but I'm really bad at it. I've died a couple times in the Southern Shelf. I'm almost level 4 now though.

I explained how the sale is unlikely - North America never gets holiday/event sales and if it does they aren't worth a crap. Considering I post the Vita sales on the website I write for every week (and have been posting them like clockwork for the past 16 months), I'm fairly confident in that statement.

Technically, I could be a dick and declare nearly all of them unlikely and speculative since there's no basis for any of those to be guaranteed or even hinted at coming. The only one I couldn't dispute at having a slight bit of evidence supporting it is the memory card bit since hardware is usually unified across regions when it comes to things like memory card sizes, and the 64GB hasn't been released everywhere.

Yes, but you have to have some hopes. I mean, technically, they didn't have to show anything on Vita. But they should have, and their inability to show anything compelling for the Vita implies to me that they're basically abandoning this system, and that's incredibly disappointing as a Vita owner.

Playing more of Type-0 I'm astounded at the amount of incidental dialogue that is in the game. The translation team did a really great job.

The gameplay is not really doing it for me though.

That's fair. As a fan of Crisis Core's battle system I'm enjoying learning the intricacies of Type-0's plus all the party switching. Are you playing on PSP or PC?

Hey gang, I need help regarding some trouble with my PS4's network issues, I didn't know where I could find a troubleshooting thread.

Lately whenever I try to download anything from the store the download stops, hangs and gives this message: cannot download nw-31456-9 ps4.

any help you guys can give would be greatly appreciated

Thanks

Kindest Regards

That's where you went wrong, E3 has never been and will likely never be the show that Vita owners cheer over - that's Gamescom/TGS.

Getting your hopes up and brewing hype for something that was never likely to be anything is why everyone's crying "Vita's dead" every time we have a press conference. The Vita isn't going anywhere, it's about time we accept it.

Am I the only one that was actually impressed with the Vita showing at E3? You guys really need to lower your expectations. I didn't even expect Vita to get a name drop. They spent a good minute talking about Vita and I was pretty surprised. Ok they didn't announce anything new but at least they acknowledged the Vita exists. That's more than I expected.

If Nintendo had announced a new 3DS model at their event, I probably would have bought one. There are still a decent number of Vita games that I want to play in the near future, but I don't have much hope beyond that. I don't think there was a single Vita game announced last night that I was really interested in.

Keep in mind that the kind of retail games the Vita usually gets are not the ones that must be revealed at E3. We still have to get Tales of Hearts, Oreshika, Freedom Wars and Danganronpa. That's enough to keep my interested in a while.

Just read about the Type-0 HD announcement catastrophe.

Words cannot express how angry I am at Sony and Square Enix at the moment.

Seriously considering selling my Vita now. I'm just tired of this shit, I don't want to give Sony any Vita-related money anymore.

Buy the PSP version. Download the patch and play it on a PSP with custom firmware or on your PC.

I'm not buying Type-0 for the PS4.

Gravity Rush 2 on PS4? Not far from it.

Who knows. I think Gravity Rush will be a Vita exclusive and the PS4 will get a "Gravity Rush Collection with both games down the line.

Square Enix was surprised that Bravely Default sold like hot cakes and "realized" they had lost their way and reportedly plan on working harder on core jrpgs.

Source: http://m.ign.com/articles/2014/03/31/square-enix-to-refocus-on-jrpgs-after-bravely-default-success

I won't believe it until I see it. I don't trust Square Enix anymore and this has nothing to do with the Type-0 thing.

Well, they need to do "something" with the PS4. And they mostly contract other studios to do the job, so they could have some other Vita projects even if there isn't that many Japan Studios staff involved.

I'm sure Freedom Wars will get a sequel. It'll perform nicely, Sony probably has high hopes on it. I think that game is the closest thing they can get to a "mainstream" success so they need to make it as popular as they can.

The previews released so far seem really positive.

lilly being canceled in favor of some edgy f2p nonsense really irks me.

next gen so far me sucks (either that or I became more cynical and bitter the last few days)

Looks like this gen will be a repeat of 6th gen for me with a Nintendo (WiiU) being my main with a Sony (PS4) being relegated to a Final Fantasy & MGS machine

Have they really canceled Lily Bergamo? They announced it?

You could have just written down : One PSVITA exclusive title.

And my prediction was right. They're not launching PSNow on the Vita at the same time as the PS4.

I'm pretty happy with anything Vita related that isn't dropping support for it. Us Vita owners are few and far in-between.

It's kinda funny actually. I bet if Vita support was completely canceled, GAF would herald it as being up there with the Dreamcast. But since Sony still tries, it's a laughing stock.

Oh and the thing that makes Vita more interesting than PS TV is that it's portable. People seem to forget that.

Vita is a far better system than Dreamcast ever was. DC was good for a console that only lasted a couple years, but compared to a lot of other consoles it wasn't really that great. If the system wasn't so short lived it wouldn't be regarded so highly. Vita on the other hand is the best gaming handheld to date. It's that right now. It doesn't need to die for us to look back and see that. I see it right now.

Also, Sony isn't really trying. Vita continues to be an amazing system in spite of Sony's lack of effort. It's pretty strange.

You did this to yourself wishing the game was Vita exclusive for no reason. I can't help but laugh.

Oh man ignorant gaf can be so entertaining! Lol

The karma that is trying to punish me(like you and other geniuses in the other thread seem to believe) forgot that i was asking for Type 0 since its announcement many years ago, I was the one that opened the #jrpgvita thread, i promoted #jrpgvita and Type 0 as much as i could and i promoted/complained about Type 0 in every thread where was possible, and now you say that the universe read that post and decided to erase from the hds and minds of Square months of work for the Vita version? Lol, this is so ridiculous and somewhat flattering at the same time.
Type 0 is not on Vita DESPITE all i said and done in all these years.

The karma also forgot that i was already hating Square before the announcement, just 2 days ago i said that this e3 was the last occasion for Square to get my money, if they announced Type 0 Vita then ok, any other case(no Type 0 at all, Type 0 on other platforms or even Type 0 on Vita announced later) means me playing the PSP version. I have no plans of buying a PS4 and Type 0 doesn't make me desire one more than before. Even if i'll buy a PS4 someday i won't buy Type 0 on PS4 because i don't pay two times for the same game and i don't usually play a game more than one time, if it will be part of the IGC then i will probably try it, but that's all that Square can expect from me.
I never liked how they treated Type 0 and the fans, i never liked the idea of giving them my money but for Type 0 on Vita i was willing to make an exception. Well Square will never have my money ever again.

The karma apparently also don't know that i don't desire games that aren't on consoles i own, they just don't exist for me, and spending 399€ for a PS4, waiting a year or more, paying full price for the game(rewarding Square for how treated us) and playing it on Vita through remote play does not appeal to me at all, especially when i can play Type 0 now, for cheap on a handheld.

I was already downloading the fan translation when Type 0 HD was announced, i'm more than happy to play it now for cheap(i'll buy Type 0 used so i won't give money to Square) on the PSP(where i had no problem playing all kind of games), i will probably finish the game long before Square will release the first gameplay video of Type 0 HD :P

I'm sensing sarcasm.

Man, seriously? Already?

No mention of the deadline (not on the card either), E3 isn't over, emphasis on the 12th for Destiny alpha with the talk about this gift(implied there was time to me), and like just a day to redeem.

Very disappointed because I was looking forward to trying the stuff offered.

I'd say Gamescom will be better but it's pretty obvious we wont get any software announcements on the scale of Killzone or Tearaway for Vita.

At least TGS might have Gravity Rush 2.

Gamescom has been better for the last two years, absolutely, but therein lies the problem really. 2 Gamescom's (tehe) ago we had Tearaway announced and Killzone re-introduced, which gave some bigger stuff to look forward to. Last Gamescom we had Borderlands announced and were still waiting on Killzone & Tearaway to release.

In the runup to this Gamescom we have... nothing to wait on, really. Minecraft I suppose. But point being, there's nothing Sony-delivered to get excited about between now and then and even if they announced something, we'd probably be waiting until after the next Gamescom like we did with Killzone (unless we're getting more Borderlands-esque rushed ports).

TGS - who knows really. I don't think there's anything big in the works (they've been pushing DanganRonpa Another Episode pretty hard since last year, which I don't think is going to be a particularly explosive title).

A big bag of meh.

Oh well, I'll cross my fingers that the Ratchet Trilogy is a good port. That'll give me something to play until Dangan Ronpa/Tales of Hearts drop.

I'm sensing sarcasm.

I didn't rage after Vita's showing. I thought, all things considered, it was decent enough.

They've showed they have some kind of vision because of this:

1.- They've showed the VitaTV. It's called the PlayStation TV now which makes sense. In the West and especially in the US Vita's brand awareness is really low. They're keeping it simple.
2.- Both platforms are going to target a younger audience with games like Minecraft, Invizimals and Disney Infinity 2.0. Like it or not this is the biggest audience for handhelds. Focusing on them is smart. They should have done it sooner.
3.- PS TV price (99€/$) is in the impulsive buy realm for enthusiasts that want to extend their PS4 or enjoy a few Vita games. It could get some purchases from people that already have a PS3/4.
4.- 139€/$ with a controller, a game and a memory card is quite a good price for the Christmas campaign. Especially if price is dropped to 99€/$ on Black Friday.

They don't need to give us a nod. We're already here buying games and giving XSEED, Atlus, NISA and others some decent profit. If they were losing money they wouldn't be supporting the system with new games.

I think we may see a memory card pricedrop in GamesCom. Hopefully a 64GB one announcement and some different bundles. They should announce external hard drive support for the PlayStation TV to make the memory cards less necesary and get some good will.

If the PlayStation TV sells decently that means more support for us (not from Sony, but some third parties). If they PSVita find a big enough niche amoung kids we may see games targeted at them that appeal to us (I've used Garden Warfare as an example when I talked about this earlier).

Of course I'm not amazed and they could have done a lot better, but I think this E3 was a clear improvement over the older.
___

BTW, I'm not into tech, but would it be posible for Sony to overclock Vita's CPU a little in PlayStation TV? Not something mindblowing, just enough to add some AA by default to their games (something like the bilinear filter option in PSP and PS1 titles).

Weak Week? Worst E3 ever. No new vita games. Okayish Ps4 games. Okayish Xbone games. Okayish WiiU games and Okayish 3DS games.

Even the WiiU gets better support than Vita.

Is it me or there hasn't been a single 3DS announcement so far, not even indie except Gunman Clive?

I agree about Wii U, but then it's nothing really surprising, they're really pushing it
