As long as Nintendo and Sony both have a bomb on the market, you can look forward to Nintendo and Sony fans going at one another. If Microsofts new console bombs, god save us all.

These are great numbers. I hope they have the software to invigorate even more sales.

As always, we see so much animus toward the Vita whenever some good news pops up.

It's clear some GAF'ers just want Vita to fail and always have.

It isn't a horrible number, but for people who have been paying attention and know the future release schedule in Japan, it really doesn't bold well for a long term recovery.

It is which is why it is crazy the retail version sold so much. Anyone can download the client for free.

Maybe the PSO2 retail card (+ maybe a 4GB card) is cheaper than buying a bigger memory card?

Also, I guess the exclusive stuff that comes with the retail copy helps.

They'd have to be for it to be going to where the WiiU is headed.

it was already there before the price drop and boob massage game

should we pretend that sony has a list of compelling games they are going to release shortly after SS to keep the sales up? SS could become a huge seller and drive prolonged growth, but thats hardly expectations

Should we all be throwing a celebration?

It's good news but we can't pretend this news exists within a vacuum. It's a given that there would be a large sales spike directly accompanying a price drop and major game release. The Vita situation doesn't begin to look better unless we see a significant, sustained increase in sales.

The WiiU's future schedule doesn't bode too well either but is that the full story? No. I am sure Sony and Nintendo will announce more games for both systems .

Vitas dead, you guys just need to let go.
You really couldn't ask for a better post than this to illustrate the irrational emotions the Vita can stir up.

Keep telling yourself it's dead poppet. Given a long enough timeline, you're bound to be correct!

Gotta love percentages. Six times <small number> equals <small number>.

I've said it a million times, though: Sony doesn't give up. I don't know how they kept developers on board with the PSP, and I don't know how they're doing it now with the Vita, but kudos to them.

It's a bit depressing, but Sony has shown very few signs of actually supporting the system with its own games. None of their main studios even acknowledge it exists. And if Sony's not willing to support it, why would any other big publisher?

Jesus. First, I'm struggling to understand why Wii U keeps getting brought up.

Second, Vita has been on the market for an entire year longer than Wii U. Big difference there.

Just goes to show how it'd sell if it was treated like the ps3/360 and got a big tent pole game every two-three weeks instead of every two-three months. It is always has been, and will continue to be, about the games.

Well it's somewhat true (or more less near death), at this rate it's selling Nintendo will reach LTD sales of the 3DS at 20 million while Sony is around 2

"Surprised" they didn´t make any comparisons, be it with its direct competitor 3DS in the same week, or sales of other systems after a price-drop.

Fans of the consoles feel a little better when they can attack the other failing platform. First it was ''at least it isn't Vita bad'' and now it is ''at least it isn't Wii U bad''.

The difference between both systems is that Nintendo has franchises that can really push a console. The same is not true for Sony and a handheld.

PS Vita = Bomb Hard
Wii U = Bomb Hard 2: Bomb Harder

Anyway, good news. The price cut has helped, so now the question is of sustainability, and at what level it stabilises. Software is probably key to help drive interest alongside the price cut. I'm really curious to see how Soul Sacrifice performs.

Vita is an awesome platform, and with its PS1 and PSP library and PS Plus support, it's something that every serious gamer should be looking at.

Wish it all the success possible, and hope Sony have a strategy in place to support its potential.

its basically the same thing that happened with PSP and Sony and the PS3. They shifted the entirety of their internal teams focus on PS3 and abandoned the PSP. They seem to just toss out their handheld and hope for the best

There's a difference between pointing out facts and then going out of your way to shut down any bit of optimism just because you thing you're being "real."

But what if little to no optimism is being realistic though, given current data and historical trends?

Not saying it is or isn't, but to discount it entirely isn't exactly being truly objective either.

Still didn't outsell the 3DS though........

I hope the Vita gets some good support, all these free games on my PS+ subscription will get played when I rebuy one later this year and I want more free games!!

It's not over until the Fat Princess sings! I saw somebody play one today. In public. That's like, the first time ever. Anecdotal, but reassuring
that at least one person owns a Vita

Id say that Vita is in a better position for a recovery in Japan than Nintendo even with it's software woes. Weeks like this prove that there is demand for the product so long as there's product there to back it up, and we haven't seen any hardware revisions yet which can regularly save systems with weak sales. PSP took off quite nicely with the slim revision, albeit it never sold as poorly as the Vita did post-launch.

We'll see what Soul Survivor does for the system through March and beyond. The system actually doing well the week before at least shows that Sony understands the significance of it and isn't just sending it to die.

Or it is because both systems to be failing so comparisons are made. But, you know, your thing can work too.

In Japan, arguably. It'd certainly be doing fine there if PSP's third-party support had actually carried over.

In the West, I don't think there's any conceivable software, short of exclusive, mainline entries in popular console franchises, that would have a real impact.

We'll know if Wii U is fucked after this Christmas.

WiiU is fucked either way (considering Nintendos expectations) but i think they can at least get it somewhere in the Gamecube/N64 ballpark with the right games, OS/online improvements and some heavy pricecuts. Won´t be easy though, they have to really get the high quality games out and plenty of them.
Vita on the other hand is Dreamcast levels of fucked.

It's funny how media outlets twist news to fit the taste of their readers.

Vita sells less than what 3DS has been doing for months in random weeks, and they make a news title called 'massive spike'; what massive spike? anything over 20k from 5k is a massive spike.

Let us see through your balls too, tell us more

See the usual people who have never entered a Japanese sales thread at all think that anyone who don't think these numbers are fantastic wants Vita dead.

Understatement of the year.

so what your saying is that they didn't twist news at all and reported accurately?

If you wanna be that way, the Vita is tracking below the Dreamcast with a much worse software tie ratio.
