Just tried that and it didn't work for me :| So odd. It doesn't even shut off when my PS4 is off.

It never goes into rest mode ugh Only time I can get it red is if I turn off everything, unplug the cord and plug it into my PS4 when it's off.

Mine doesn't turn off either...at least not for a while. It stays white for a long time, but once my ps4 is in rest mode, it will eventually go red. It will be white if your ps4 is on though, because there is a feed running through it to your TV. Even if your not using VR.

For those experiencing tracking issues, here's what helped me:

1. Restart your PS4 via Power off PS4 from the menu instead of doing Rest Mode. Looks like there's some kind of a bug that can creep in if your PS4 is running for too long.
2. Camera over, not under TV
3. Top of your TV might react to people walking around the house, or you when playing in standing mode. If your TV is wobbly, try placing camera on a more stable surface.
4. Check your room lights. Make sure there's no light behind you (artificial or coming through the window), try playing with lights on and off.
5. Remember that your camera does not need to face the same way as the TV!

"is there anything downloading in the background? My box would not shut off while I had a download or something waiting to DL. "

Nope, nothing downloading and everything is updated.

That's how mine was before, this just started last night. Now it just never goes off, even when my PS4 system is off, the headset or my PS4 is in rest mode. Never turns red unless I turn off the PS4, unplug it and plug the unit back in.

I just got mine (import). Incredible. My first experience was Thumper which honestly was a bit underwhelming in terms of the feeling of VR. Then I tried the Kitchen and I instantly got it. Huge grin on my face. I was there.

In terms of the device itself it seems a bit a convoluted to set up, I can't imagine what the PC counterparts must be like. The headband is a bit too tight on me, which can be annoying.

Don't know if this helps: https://www.reddit.com/r/PSVR/comments/57nhrn/psvr_process_unit_will_not_turn_off/

Looks like you can hold and press the power button on the main cable to turn it off.

So yea now I hold it down longer and it finally goes into rest mode (turns red) put I lose my video feed :| wtf

Then to get it back I have to turn the headset back on and off again just so I can play a game like normal.

what in the fudge, none of this was happening before. It would simply go into rest mode as soon as I turned off the headset or my PS4 went off.

edit- Okay that at least works for when my system is off. Thanks for the tip! Not sure why it won't go into rest mode like it was doing before, but now I don't have to unplug shit when I turn my PS4 off. Thanks again!

Anyone have Until Dawn? I'm on the first actual boss of the game. There's this mechanic where something makes birds fly at you. There's one time toward the end that I can't get past and I don't know what the fuck it wants me to do. I've attempted it 8+ times in a row.

I try shooting the birds, I die. I try ducking, I die. I try moving my head around the thing in front of me that's calling the birds so I can shoot at them, I kill most of them, I die. There's tons of bird waves and this is the only one that's a problem. Is it some kind of bug?

nvm I figured it out. I guess it was purposely killing me because I wasn't doing enough damage to the boss or something. I wish they made that more clear so I didn't have to do 12 attempts.

Been posted a lot:
Remember the heart that you have to shoot to start the boss fight? You see how shooting the girl doesn't do much? Notice how the doors open to reveal the heart a bunch of times? Hint hint ;)

Sure thing! Glad it helped. I only set mine up last night, so I don't know if I have this issue or not. But I will definitely be checking it out later when I get home.

This is amazing... I was born with strabismic amblyopia with dipolopia aka "crossed" or "lazy" eye with constant, offset double-vision. In high school I did some strengthening therapy that straightened my eyes to make them appear uncrossed, but the condition itself was never corrected so I've just learned to live with it in my life. As a result of this I have no depth perception or stereo vision and I cannot see 3D games, 3D movies, etc, but when I play certain games in PlayStation VR I only see one image with depth!!! The other day after a couple hours of playing games I took the headset off and I saw depth around my house and in traffic for the first time in my life!! As the morning went on my vision returned back to my normal, but there's clearly some kind of "vision therapy" happening in PSVR. I'm 47 years old and I can't describe what it feels like to see depth, to see 3D for the first time in my life. It was amazing and overwhelming all at once. I know there's the medical program 'Vivid Vision' for Oculus which was developed to correct this condition, but I never expected it to happen naturally from just playing games. I really hope something like that comes to PSVR because this could be life changing for me.

That is incredible!!!! Maybe it will start lasting longer!

Man, after having a good first couple of days, I'm now having problems as well.

I can deal with the Move and controller jitter, but when the headset starts pulsing or jittering or whatever you want to call it (moving in and out while sitting still), I just want to stop playing. It's really noticeable when you get close to something, like the menus in the demo disc for example. As soon as I lean forward to get close and look at them, they start moving in and out.

Another thing is when in the PS4 UI, in cinema mode, when I turn my head left and right, the whole screen jumps and skips. I've tried different distances between the camera, lights out, lights on, daytime, nighttime... recalibrating everything and I can't seem to fix it. Starting to wonder if the issue was always there but I just didn't notice the first couple of days.

I really love the experience and want it to be right... is there any chance of a fix?

Very interesting! My wife has extremely poor depth perception and as a result, can't drive a car. She's never been able to see 3D. This could be a really big deal if VR helps correct this.

Awesome to hear!

For the people that ran into problems with tracking drifting, I had this issue yesterday and went through all of the calibration steps 2 times; it didn't help.

I remember reading something about Rest Mode affecting headset tracking. I restarted my console and everything worked fine after that.

Not sure if this helps anyone else, but it remedied my situation.

I was a little hesitant to share this but I figured it might encouraging for someone else to hear. Thank you all very much for being encouraging and supportive! X-D

This is amazing to read, so glad for you! Seriously, Sony should get on making a medical app for situations like these!

So I tried PSVR for the first time at a Sony event this evening....Yeah, it's not for me.

I was really excited going into it, but it just doesn't feel good to me. I tried:

Driveclub VR (in a chair with a wheel and pedals) - visually unpleasant, seems to be super low res and gave me a deeply unsettling swooping sensation in my stomach on every corner. Felt a little bit ill after that.

Farpoint (with gun peripheral) - a surprising amount of fun actually, I enjoyed the shooting, got quite into it, even found myself ducking when those spider things jumped at me. It was quite immersive and the sense of scale was quote cool. But the resolution again made it effort to see what was going on and and felt quite hard on the eyes. There was this constant sensation of overbalancing which never quite went away and got a bit wearing after a few minutes.

After both of those I actually felt quite worn out! Sounds silly I know. Also I got really quite hot and sweaty in the headset, which aside from that did feel nice to wear. I was also surprised at how much the low res bothered me - I have no idea what res it actually is, but I found it quite hard of the eyes and ultimately distracting.

So yeah, fun for half an hour but I have zero desire to buy one, or really play it again any time soon.

Take care when putting the headset on and also make sure your camera is leveled. That should not be the case.

I've tried taking off the headset and putting it back on several times, doesn't help. The camera is level, and I've tried moving it from the top of my TV to the bottom, no difference.

I think the problem is the shape or rather the natural resting position of my head, which is not completely level, but there's gotta be some way to compensate for that.

The amazing post above reminded me of a question I had.

Is it theoretically possible for a VR system to give you an eye test and then adjust the output accordingly so that you don't need to wear your glasses? In software. Obviously, if the lenses could be swapped or altered it could do it. But I mean just by adding some kind of skew or processing right before it outputs to the screen.

For me, everything far away is blurry (i always forget if that is farsighted or nearsighted).

My gut says there would be no way to make me see clear in VR without glasses, but I have very little knowledge about eyes and that sort of stuff, so I figured I'd ask gaf, you guys always know everything.

So adjust the game image so that it becomes clear for people with bad eye sight? Probably not.

Definitely no.

Is Farpoint on rails or do you have full control of your movement?

Full control, you've got the analogue stick on the gun.

It was fun for a short burst and actually gave me a real sense of what VR could be, but it's not for me. Maybe in a few hardware generations when the fidelity is better.

I remember seeing Here They Lie getting a physical release - anyone know if that's still happening?

Also, does Rush of Blood spoil Until Dawn (haven't played yet, but this has me interested)?

thanks!

Did you feel disorientated when you physically stood in one place but in game walked a bunch?

Really curious if they pull it off.

I tried a few matches in World War Toons. It's actually pretty fun, but it kept starting me out without a gun. Then there were a few other little bugs that crept up while playing as well.

I like that you unlock cosmetic items, but I did also notice some items like movement speed +4 or something. I hope it doesn't become a pay-to-win game because those are the kinds of items you get from the purchasable crates.

It wasn't too bad. I didn't get any nausea, just this sensation every so often that I'm about to overbalance and I felt like I had to put a foot out to stop myself falling over which was a bit disconcerting. Presumably as my eyes tell my brain I'm moving but my feet aren't so instinct kicks in and you try to compensate by sticking out a foot. Overall though I worked far better than I expected it to, it was a lot of fun, gave me serious shivers when the spider monsters jumped at my face. Using the gun peripheral the shooting was natural and entertaining.

The game looked visually better (but still really basic) on the second screen other people were watching than when I had the headset on though.

Farpoint is a poster child for PS4 Pro VR enhancements, so hopefully the Pro version does well enough for those who are affected by low res issues

This may be a good place for me to share my impressions of Loading Human. It uses the Move Controllers, you have hands, arms, a torso and legs. You move around by pointing forward with the move controller and hitting the move button, you turn by pointing to the left or right on the move controller and hitting the move button, you point the move over your shoulder and press the move button to do a 180 degree turn.

This was the first game that really got me in the stomach. I will admit, I definitely got used to it, but moving across a room definitely felt really really weird. I got used to the controls really really quick. They didn't bother me, but moving around was definitely something different, at least in how it felt .

The game has really great immersion, and I will share more impressions after getting more time with it tonight. But I added this here because I am also interested in how full open 360 movement is being handled going forward in VR..

Beautiful.

No, couplers cause no issues (unless the chain you make is too long). I'm using one from my PC and can get full 4K60 in HDR or using RGB. It's no problem.
I'm having a real tough time understanding/visualizing the coupler's purpose here. A conventional HDMI chain with the PS VR looks like this, of course (HDMIXX referring to the cable):

PS4 > HDMI01 > Breakout Box > HDMI02 > AVR/HDTV

Versus the ideal config:

PS4 > HDMI01 > AVR/HDTV

So, where does the coupler get introduced and how does it make swapping between the two configs any easier? Or does it serve more of an accessibility role for those that can't easily get to the backside of each of these devices?

Which games could you see with depth? I have the same condition so would be very interested to know.

Games where I'm turning my head or my gaze and "looking" to make contact with elements coming towards me seem to help it the best. Rez, Danger Ball and Headmaster seem to do it more than other games, but to a lesser degree also "looking" over my shoulder, into turns, etc in DriveClub VR. It's hard to explain, but it's like my eyes are just tracking together and I'm not having to consciously do it like I do in real life.

It makes swapping a slightly simpler, more convenient process.

To remove the PSVR from the chain: Pull the cables out of the back of the breakout box, couple them together.

To put the PSVR in the chain: Uncouple the cables, plug them back into the breakout box.

Far point is fully controllable (you walk around) -the demo does have you zapping/phasing through areas. - which I think was done to faciliate the demo (length) and showcase areas

It has you walking through narrow canonways, and to the side of thin cravases (you can fall to your death) and makes good use of that VR depth to add that sense of awe

Demo had bugs and large bus sized boss bugs and reminded me of a starship troopers game. It also looks pretty good on base PS4

this is a game I'm quite keen on. The demo sold me. Bugs spitting acid at you has to be seen
