Is there a... point in repeating what I said back at me?

Go, Gear, Quest and Rift (Also DK1/DK2 and CV1 - because that's one Oculus deserves to be raked over given how quickly they killed compatibility after acquisition) were all incompatible with each other. So was Rift and OpenVR (for 2 years - until Oculus finally relented and allowed it).
Also every other mobile/standalone (of which there's too many to list here) was incompatible with each other and usually their stationary ecosystems - including things like Google creating and killing (within 12 months) a library+"""standard""" of their own.

So you're using the quest as and example to excuse what Sony are doing here while expecting "backwards compatability" between tethered and stand alone devices? Do you even know what backwards compatability is?

People cried for months at the idea of a 500+ dollars console and they thing they can sell this thing that is not even fully wireless for 50 dollars more?

Good luck.gif

This thing better eating steam vr products and tracking for breakfast or it's gonna be fucking hilarious.

Terrible news for VR, this is never going to sell outside the early adoptors and gadgetphiles that buy everything (who will have no problem selling it out for the first 6+ months). Broader market appeal could not be any lower at $600 though, and software support will be driven even further in the dirt than it is now-- which is already about 5 feet under given all the terrible looking indie trash.

More expensive than a PS5, because the PS5 Pro is around the corner.

I hope so. You'd think they'd want to market it as a device that's more than just "experiences"

That's how I felt when they announced Call of the mountains. But now it looks like we're back to square one

So far, and a few more than came recently for free PSVR to PSVR2 upgrades. Now which ones are launch ones, Sony will need a showcase or another announcement.

People were sure that it would be $399 like PSVR or no more than $400, and some were very adamant about it too online.

As I said in the past, it never made sense to believe $399 when the original PSVR has only dropped in price once, and is still $349.

None of those PSVR 2 game trailers excited me. Many of them look like they'd run and look fine on a Quest 2(which I own).

Can't believe they didn't have Half Life Alyx ready to go at launch(Half Life Alyx for PSVR 2 allegedly "locked").

IMHO Sony still hasn't show me a "killer app" that justifies me dropping $550 on their new headset. For now, my Quest 2 will do
just fine. I'll sit on the sidelines and see if this takes off or not.

LOL No. There needs to be a lot more heavy hitter games. Early adopters enjoy, I'll reevaluate a year after this thing is released.

The vive and index prices are YEARS old.
It was still new tech, which it is not anymore.

Rift S was like 300-400 if I remember correctly. CV1 also.
I always thought that htc and valve vr is way overpriced.

It is because base laser station are expensive and contain spinning laser parts.
Inside out is much cheaper and in my opinion convenient

Hmm. Might have been a bit harsh. If they manage RE4, Call of The Mountains and Saints and Sinners at launch i'll be happy with that.

RE8 has full motion controls. I don’t know if it’s worth getting a PSVR2 at launch, but the day you get one, you make sure you buy RE8 too.

Launchgames aren't impressive at all.. Guess I'll wait until Half-life Alex appears and some other bangers.

650euro's is pretty steep, but the tech is fantastic so I expected as much.

classic Sony....make something too expensive so nobody will buy it. Then they will stop making games after a year or two like always.
This thing will be price cut DEEP 1 year after launch. no doubt

I don't think it will get any major price cut any time soon. The PSVR1 only got a $50 price cut eventually and that didn't do too well either.
The real risk of jumping in early is the likely possibility that this won't get any big long lasting support. So if you are dropping $550 on this just make sure that list of already announced titles is enough of a system seller for you.

i dont really mind the price but outside Horizon im not feeling the software line up so far. Way too many horror games and shooters. Two genres i dont care that much about

I want to play astrobot and I want real Gran Turismo VR support

Don't forget the enviable 3 game VR bundle with the new improved V2 device with all the headache inducing kinks worked out at a lower price than they are asking for now in 2 years time.
They didn’t do it for VR1 (I don’t think?), so why would they do it for VR2?

think this is gonna be another situation where you can vulture one of these off ebay, from the 100 thousand ppl that will have instant regret on buying this. I paid $100 for a PSVR with the controllers and a charging station

Horror and shooters are a good chunk of all vr libraries. But there are some cool table top type of games out there too. I’m sure they’ll make their way to this new headset as well.

Who says it can’t be used on pc? It uses a common usb c cable so, or Sony will support it soon after launch, or someone will write a driver for it to make it work, like ds4windows e.g.
If Sony doesn't sell an adapter themselves, at the very least someone would need to make it work with a "reverse" USB-C -> USB3 + DisplayPort adapter, and those will take a while to appear because AFAIK they don't even exist in the market.

Otherwise I guess the headset can only be used by the owners of reference 6800XT/6900XT and/or future 7900XT GPUs (i.e. GPUs with USB-C outputs).
I'd actually be okay with that because I own a 6900XT, but I doubt the owners of reference Navi 21 cards present a critical mass for PC adoption.

It's beyond me how someone would spend nearly 500 euros and play with DS4 only, honestly. You can't even move your hands freely lol
PSVR1 however was clearly a entry level experience. Even with Moves we ere talking about old PS3 2008 controllers not designed for VR. The whole package was very experimental and made the most from already available peripherals.
On my PSVR I played Astro Bot, Battlezone, Bound, Driveclub, Keep Talking and Nobody Explodes (way too many hours with friends & wife on this one), PSVR Worlds, Resident Evil VII and Until Dawn: Rush of Blood.

I only used my Move controllers on that last one.

Which I didn't play so wouldn't know.

It's also not really a genre you buy VR for.

Rail shooters are perfect for VR, 'Rush of Blood' and 'Blood and Truth' are my personal favourite VR games , I wish there was more to be honest so can't wait for Switchback VR. I was going to hold off a little this time (got PSVR day one), but I liked Rush of Blood so much that I dont think I can hold out for Switchback VR.

By the way, the music on the Switchback VR trailer is Big Bad Wolf by In This Moment

If they’re trying to compete with high end PC headsets then they’ve already failed. Those headsets are niche and Sony needs this thing to sell 10x more than the entire PC VR market combined to attract devs to make games for this. Otherwise expect another Vita. At least Vita reached 20m install base. Sony will be lucky to even get to 20% of that within 3 years.

I think I predicted $500-600, so $550 is right in the rniddle.

Makes sense as PS5 costs more than PS4 by $100, so VR2 at +$150 is the ballpark range. Just $50 more than matching PS5.

For sake of optics, it should be $500 so it’s not more than PS5 and $550 is a weird price. You might as well go either $500 or $600.

They know it’s niche & won’t sell a lot. So might as well charge enthusiasts the most they can.

Cores, shaders and BIOS oh my!

Trash Facebook shill propaganda has made you clueless. PCVR is no more niche than stand alone (which is still very niche, call me when it does Switch or Wii numbers, not Vita/N64 as it is so far with the best estimates as Meta deliberately don't give numbers). People just buy less VR games on PC because there aren't enough high profile ones to play (and the VR media are Meta shills dunking on/ignoring PCVR and making visibility worse). The top VR sellers on PC don't lack in numbers compared to the top sellers on Quest as you can see from the user review numbers of Alyx, Beat Saber, Boneworks and other games. Most recently Bonelab is almost at like a 45/55 split and After the Fall prior was similar enough to that. Other games have maybe a 3rd of sales come from PC despite that. Complaints for far lower sales than Quest are for games that can't compete with amazing flat games so PC users prefer playing them (some with great VR mods) over the 100th mini/rhythm/experience type game they've had enough of (you only need one of each really and even as a PC user you might get it stand alone as PC offers no advantage in that case) that the Quest demographic will also tire of, not to mention its store will also get cluttered like any eventually, it's not any better designed so a short lived advantage (that ignores developers who don't get approved so don't even have a chance for profit, when on PC anyone can launch so of course many more will fail). High production value VR games like Sony and third parties will be investing in (without reaching flat AAA budgets they still one up mobile caliber games) and more importantly promoting can do well within a limited install base (and will now sell on both PC and PSVR2 making them even more viable). Visibility will also be boosted as the mainstream gaming media finally start covering VR with this, so people don't have to rely on amateur VR media that don't cover 90% of cool VR stuff even when they're currently so few compared to the flat games the (far from flawless) gaming press manages.
