Pokémon Black/White |OT2| International Edition

WPA2 security for Wi-Fi is fully supported in Black and White when played on a Nintendo DSi, Nintendo DSi XL, or Nintendo 3DS system. Yay!
The greatest news of this thread!

First DS game I'll be able to take online since switching to WPA. I'm resisting the urge to get this game tommorow, but the fact that I can randomly battle online is not helping at all.

Is technically better than Pearl Diamond? Like faster or anything??

Urge rising D:

Much, much faster. Everything is easier and smoother. I miss the HG/SS touch menu on the bottom screen being a permanent thing, and the old auto-run option, but other than that it's as good as DS Pokemon could get.

Is it possible for me to start the game, pick a starter, trade it to Pearl, then reset the game and repeat so I have all the starters? I think I remember hearing that you can start trading faster than some other games in the series.

Is that a typo or do you actually mean Pearl? You can't transfer Pokemon from Black/White to previous gen games, only the other way around after completing the game.

Yea, I meant pearl. oh well

I can't pick between the fire and water starters. i lean towards water, but it looks like seismitoad is a pretty good water pokemon already and i probably wouldnt need two...

should i give this a try, i had a quick go on pearl a while ago and hated it. i havent played properly in ages, seems like there is just too much new shit to learn now. although if the basics are the same i guess i would be OK as i knew my way inside out for the original games.

I got black yesterday and am loving it so far, but I have a worry about using the wifi stuff.

I'm getting a 3DS when it launches so I guess I'll be playing it more on that, but I know Nintendo treats game and console as a set online. Will I lose anything important like save data if I connect online on my dsi and then move on to the 3DS later on?

You'll only lose battle records and friends lists. You won't lose save data, that's tied to the cartridge, not the system.

LTTP but awesome OP.

just received my email from best buy to pick up the game tomorrow. can't wait. don't think i'll play just yet.

So how do you go about getting the other starter Pokemon? Is trading the only way?

Then you would have to trade your only Snivy just to have a Tepig?
Well, you can breed your Snivy to make a whole new Snivy which you can then trade for a Tepig.

You can transfer all of your Nintendo WFC information over from one DS to another. Will that work with the 3DS?

Just preordered my copy from Amazon this morning using a ten dollar credit. I'm looking forward to the fresh experience.

Nice OP as well!

Sorry to be slightly OT but between these two and Pokemon SoulSilver/Heartgold which one would you reccomend? I haven't played a Pokemon game in years.

I don't know. I'm just going by what happened to Diamond when I moved from an old DS to my DSi.
Did you go to the WFC settings using your old DS and select to transfer your profile from it to your new DS? A lot of people don't realize you can just transfer all of your settings and data over using any WFC-enabled DS game.

If you played the originals, you'll love HG/SS, and you'll also be able to trade with P/D/Pt and send your old pokémon from R/S/E to IV gen games. I would say HG/SS if you don't plan on trading or battling with people from NeoGaf, because most of them will be playing B/W.

Bought Pokemon Black yesterday, will have time to play it in a few hours.

I have been on a media black-out ever since before the JP launch so I'm pretty excited to play.

Looking through all of this, I can't believe how much has changed since my last Pokémon game (Crystal, and Yellow before that).

I'm excited for my Pokémon Black DSi Bundle to come in!

Got mine today for 33 euros! Not bad, hopefully I can actually get through the whole thing instead of just the story mode. Not following media for this kinda helped too

You only need Celebi for Zorua.

That's good news, I did a WiFi transfer somebody was hosting to get Celebi since I wasn't able to get to any place where I could do it.

Now, to figure out how to get the Zorua in B/W when I get it!

Great OP too Andrex, well done!

I like to buy the official guide because of the art, and because my sister prefers to use that instead of the internet, anyone know which is better?

Pokemon Black Version & Pokemon White Version Collector's Edition: The Official Pokemon Strategy Guide & Unova Pokedex with Removable Front-cover Lenticular [Hardcover]
http://www.amazon.com/dp/0307890627/?tag=neogaf0e-20

or

Pokemon Black Version & Pokemon White Version Volume 1: The Official Pokemon Strategy Guide [Paperback]
http://www.amazon.com/dp/0307890600/?tag=neogaf0e-20

In other words, is the hardcover version worth the extra $$$?

I'm sure they're close to the same, so if you get it for the art might as well get the hardcover for preservation purposes. Price difference doesn't seem to be all that much.

Plus it says Collector's Edition, collect it!!

Going to pick Snivy for the challenge, but just to clarify - all non-legendary are breedable, so with a couple of friends willing to spare an hour or so I can eventually get all three starters?

I love how Zubat's replacement is named Woobat.

It's like Gamefreak is trolling us after 15 years of Zubat.
It's not really the replacement, though. You don't find Woobat in every single goddamn cave.

Yep. Well, all non-legendary Pokémon excluding Unown, and for some bizarre reason, Nidorina and Nidoqueen (Nidoran's good to go).

Since you reach daycare earlier than ever in this game, you'll probably have all the starters by next Monday if you trade with gaffers.

By the way, is there any poke like ditto in B/W to get pokemon eggs with?

There's... Ditto? It's available shortly after beating the game.
If you don't want to wait, reset for a female starter, and breed it with something from the same egg group (offspring's species is inherited from the mother).

Never mind my last comment, I got to start the game now!

Trying to decide since 10min which starter to choose, they're all so cute...

Edit: I decided to let my cat choose and she picked the fire-starter, as she walked over my DS.
With some of my help. :p

Haven't been following news on this very closely, but looking at the OP it definitely seems that there is way more incentive to get both versions now compared to the previous games. I probably will get both eventually, making it the first time in the series where I do, but first I'll get the white version. But black is also appealing... argh I dunno :(

I missed it completely. :(

Just had the game freeze on me when I turned on the C-Gear mode. Rather annoying. :|

Well the price between them isn't that much, and I believe that the hardcover edition contains a pokedex as well. Not sure how complete it would be, as it could list the level up moves and the tm learns and stuff like that or it could be like the Diamond/Pearl one where it was pretty much just pictures of them.

Woah, I don't think I was aware of the Dream World, Global Link, and Global Battle Union.

This stuff is all done online on a website? Interesting.

Anyway, great OP, Andrex.

Also, I'm really nervous, guys. I want to actually try to play competitively but I know I'm going to get raaaaaped because I've never done that sort of thing before....
