Pokémon Community Thread 2: "This is the Real Power of Johto..."

Chet Rippo can be Tracy.

I can be...

...
...

:(

I would imagine you as Duplica. The girl in the anime with the Ditto.

In the Gen I games, Oak was actually programmed with a team that included an Arcanine, a Gyarados, and an Exeggutor. Those three happen to be Pokémon I frequently associate myself with.

Basically the same as Gary's team.

Professor Oak's strongest Pokemon is always a Level 70 Gyarados, that guy got good taste.

Hey my son and his friends are now into Pokemon cards. I picked some up at the store.

I know nothing about these cards.

How do I go about knowing what sets they belong to, and what cards are better than others?

What else do I need to know to help him enjoy this hobby?
The best way to get them involved in the local Pokemon community is likely by taking them to Pokemon League: https://www.pokemon.com/us/account/events/

There are many leagues in many different countries so hopefully there's one near you! They get points for attending and build up to earning badges and promo cards (might be digital cards now). Their online accounts also get flagged to be able to receive the promo Pokemon of the season for their video game (currently Scizor, likely Haxorus or Garchomp next season).

The kids at the tournaments I go to always look like they've become a tight bunch. It's a great way for them to make new friends!

To see the relative prices of cards, you can check http://www.trollandtoad.com/
Prices are often higher than they should be there, but it's a good rule of thumb. I buy my cards off eBay personally. If you're looking for single cards to build a competitive deck, eBay and local game shops might be your best bet.

If they want to get competitive, do some reading on http://sixprizes.com and see some of the videos at http://thetopcut.net

The only cards allowed in competitive play this season start with "Black and White". They will have one of these symbols in the bottom right of the card: http://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/Pokémon_Trading_Card_Game#Black_.26_White_Series

Older trainer cards that have the same name and effect as a trainer in these sets can be used as well.

You could probably send Firestorm a PM and get any answers you need. I'm not sure how large the trading card community is around here, but he always seems to know the latest news.
I'm here!

I'm sure this has been asked a thousand times before, but if you were in the Pokemon world, what would your team be? If you could only ever have six...

Mine would be:

006.gif
009.gif
059.gif
094.gif
196.gif
310.gif

Fly through the skies on my Charizard.
Surf the seas on my Blastoise.
Ride across the land on my Arcanine.
Fuck yes.

I can see why:

Also, Bugsy's a friggin' jerk in the World Leaders tournament. His Scizor comes out first and when I switch to my Flamethrower Togekiss, he just Swords Dance Bullet Punches it out of existence. The fact that you have to beat the tournament 10 times just to move on is really stupid, for the record.

Also, I finally got around beat the Champions tournament today after putting it off for like, 2 weeks. My final team was as follows:

ScraftyD (Shiny Scrafty): Crunch, Dragon Dance, Drain Punch, Ice Punch
Shelly (Cloyster) Icicle Spear, Hydro Pump, Rock Blast, Shell Smash
Kin (Togekiss) Air Slash, Thunder Wave, Aura Sphere, Flamethrower

Copious amounts of luck were involved :D[/QUOTE]
nice
do your pokemon need to be EV trained and have good IVs to win in pwt?

My Cloyster was EV trained in Attack and Speed and had perfect IVs. My Scrafty was EV trained in Attack and Speed and had perfect Special Defense and Speed IVs. My Togekiss was EV trained in HP and had no perfect IVs. To answer your second question, since one point in a stat can mean the difference between victory and failure, they definitely matter a lot. Also, word of advice; never use a move that has even the slightest chance of missing, because it will. Every. Single. Time.

Here's what my team would be if I were in the Pokémon world:

553.gif

430.gif
342.gif

Guess what my favourite type is.

Comfy jacket & hat, and that scarf is bitching.

Darn.

Oh well. What should the master ball be used on instead?

It probably doesn't matter too much. I save it for emergency captures, like if I run across a shiny Pokémon and don't have any other reliable way to catch it.

Black 2 and White 2 don't have any pesky wandering legendaries to worry about.

I read somewhere that you are able to get more than one master ball in this game, something about that street where you have to make your shops or whatever? Is that right?
