currently using:

Ghastly - lvl 6 (leveling him up)
Quilava - lvl 19
Croconaw - lvl 18
Bayleef - lvl 19
Pideotto - lvl 20

Thinking about my final set im planning on using:

Typhlosion, Haunter, Alakazam, Scizor, Red Garados, and either Dragonite or Nidoking. Sound solid?

Well if you are going to get an Alakazam you might as well trade the Haunter and make a Gengar.

Anyway that is a pretty solid team. I'd go with Dragonite for the final slot. Pretty beastly in-game with it's general bulk and dragon dance.

Yea i was thinking back and remember how good Dragonite was. I dont know if i want a Gengar, if I remember correctly, isn't it best to keep Haunter or am i wrong here?

I'm really disliking how specific the timed daily/weekly events are in HGSS. I work night shift during the week, so I'm usually up at weird hours. In order to get all the phone numbers for the gym leader rematches, I pretty much have to tweak the DS clock constantly if I don't want to have to plan my daily schedule around it.

What stone do you need to evolve a misdreavus and is anyone willing to give me one? Ill give away a Togekiss for it.

Also, are shuckle's any good? I just got one.

You are wrong. Why would the evolution of a Pokemon be weaker than the pre-evolution?

Is teaching a togekiss fly a bad idea? Note I have two togekiss's.
If you have another Pokemon that can learn it, you should probably teach it to that one instead. Togekiss has a terrible Atk stat, so Fly is usually a useless move on it.

If I wanted to catch something that required 5k steps, I should look for it when the total hits that on the Pokewalker right? After the counter resets at midnight, its as if you're starting over from 0 steps or does it keep a running total?

I'm in Mahogany Town...currently have:

Espeon
Fearow
Croconaw
Weepinbell
Vulpix

All at Lv28. Gonna evolve Vulpix once I transfer a Flamethrower TM from HeartGold and I'm waiting for Weepinbell to learn Razor Leaf at 42. Don't know if I'm gonna choose a Ursaring or Sneasel for my last spot...I love 'em both too much.

If you do the resort, yellow forest (!!!) rally or sightseeing courses, then yes, apparently:

(but those will take you a while to unlock)

Shadow Ball. Night Shade always does damage equal to your level. While that may be good for Blissey, that is not good for Gengar.
I assume you are implying that Blissey does not do good damage, but that reminds me. I assume nightshade acts like other ghost moves (including curse?), i.e. they don't work against normal types?

Yeah, Night Shade does not work on Normal types.

I'm way indifferent about the loss of the slot machines.
Kinda glad the slot machines are gone for my personal sanity. I don't think I have a gambling problem in real life, but casinos in games, like with dragon quest or pokemon, I will seriously spend hours and hours and hours playing the slots. Even after getting all the prizes, I still will sometimes load up a game to play slots. One less game with slots is one more sanity point for me.

I don't mind the loss of slot machines. I never played them anyway. I do mind the loss of purchasable coins.

Ok I just got an Eevee. Now which Eevee eveolution should I try to obtain? Note I have an ampharos so Jolteon is out of the question. Also, I don't want a vaporeon or an umbreon.

I haven't played a Pokemon game since the original Pokemon Silver, so I'm interested in getting this. One question, is it possible to get all Pokemon with just HG and SS or would someone need D/P/Pl?

http://www.serebii.net/heartgoldsoulsilver/unobtainable.shtml

You can get about 90% or more of the Pokemon if you have HG, SS, or Plat. HGSS is only missing:

- event legndaries (Mew, Celebi, etc)
- Regi trio (trade from RSE or Plat via event Regi)
- Sinnoh starters, fossils, and legendaries
- Sinnoh location-specific evolutions (Magnezone, new Eevees, etc.)
- Rotom, Drifblim, Purugly, Skuntank

Ugh I felt like an ass when I defeated Clair. I was doing great until I had to deal with her Kingdra. Being underpowered I had to be strategic since I couldn't overpower her.

First I used my Dragonair (holding Quick Claw) to slow her Kingdra down. Not being powerful enough to kill her it's all I could do because my Dragonair was powerful enough to lower the Kingdra's HP enough to force Clair to use a healing item (thus making Dragonair's faint in vain). It faints due to Dragon Pulse.

I then switched over to Weepinbell for a sacrifice since it was holding Amulet Bell. It faints due to Dragon Pulse.

I switch to my Ampharos, holding a Magnet, in order to weaken it halfway so as not to make Clair heal. I land a critical hit with Discharge and it lands in the yellow zone. Kingdra's Sitrus berry activates. Now at this point I begin to stall since I don't want to force Ampharos to make Clair heal and my Ampharos manages to survive for multiple times due to somehow surviving a Hydro Pump (despite my Ampharos' HP not being full since it took a hit from the Dragon Rage of Clair's Gyarados) and turns where the Kingdra suffers from its paralysis. My Ampharos faints from Dragon Pulse.

On a previous playthrough my plan was to just use my Golem's Selfdestruct but her Kingdra was powerful enough to resist it just enough to not die from it and enough for Clair to heal it. This time though due to the Kingdra being halfway at health I use Selfdestruct, winning the battle, and only having two Pokemon left (my Quilava and my underpowered Miltank).

:'( I belong in Team Rocket.

4th gen trainers only use one Full Restore per Pokemon unless they switch out and switch back in. I don't think I've ever seen one use more than 1 healing item on a Pokemon without switching.

Being completely ignorant with the "new" pokemon since the only ones I remember are the original 150-151..is there a guide online of Pokemon to completely avoid?

I'm just trying to be cautious and not waste time on an asshole that will be useless later on.

Trust me I was extremely surprised when I saw her do this. So what I did in a previous attempt was do Golem first then finish off with Ampharos (forgetting that Kingdra was half-dragon). So I kill her and then she's forced to heal. Thinking I'll just finish her off with Ampharos (again I forgot it was half-dragon) I used Discharge and am surprised it survive. I get lucky and she misses with Hydro Pump and I somehow luck out for some turns that it couldn't move. So I though I got this match finished until I reached the red zone and she pulls out a Full Restore and lands a Dragon Pulse on me. I was like O_O.

If you're basing off of tournament rankings, this is what I use (though obviously not right now since the only "good" Pokemon I'm actually using atm is Dragonair which will eventually be Dragonite and Miltank): http://www.smogon.com/dp/tiers/

Team design is a real pain in the ass sometimes.

I want to bring a Sandstorm team to fight the final boss with, while still having some type coverage. I also want to have as many HMs as possible so I don't have to cart slaves around, and want to grab the free Light Ball which requires Thief or a similar move.

This is what I ended up with:

Hippowdon: Earthquake, Rock Slide, Crunch, Thunder Fang
Torterra: Earthquake, Seed Bomb, Crunch, Rock Climb
Swampert: Earthquake, Waterfall, Ice Punch, Surf
Mamoswine: Earthquake, Ice Fang, Strength, Iron Head
Flygon: Earthquake, Dragon Claw, Fire Punch, Fly
Scizor: Bug Bite, Bullet Punch, Cut/Thief, Rock Smash

Of course, none of the Ground types learn Thief so I'm going to get a Volt Tackle right between the eyes, and I don't have Psychic/Fighting which you really need for type coverage to even get there.

Any suggestions for possible replacements?

Also, I'm probably repeating myself here, but the grinding you have to do to even have a chance against the final boss is grounds for someone at GameFreak being hung by their balls.

I feel your pain. My DSi connects no problem to my WEP wireless connection, but I can't get any games to connect at all. I have to dig my old laptop out and use the Nintendo USB Wi-fi connector whenever I want to go online.

Is your WEP set to Open or Shared? It doesn't work on Open for me, only Shared. :X

Argh...
So, before learning of the "Pikachu event" I gave the Flash TM to Bellsprout..just to proceed through the caves...

Can I obtain another Flash later to give it to Pikachu or something? ..since i'm sure I won't be using Bellsprout...

Blue used at least three on one of his Pokemon when I fought him.

But he's also one of the few who switches them out when at a disadvantage. You sure he healed twice without switching first?

Well I'm certain Clair healed twice and she couldn't switch at all.

Three in a row. One of the attacks I was using got his last one down to the red each time so he probably though, "F*** it, I have tons of Full Heals that I haven't used because the rest of my team was OHKO'd, might as well use them now."

Yeah well, Gary's a dick. Big surprise there.

I remember facing him in the FRLG champion rematch and he used five Full Restores on Gyarados, and I had no way to prevent it. So much profanity ensued.

I was transferring stuff from the Pokéwalker to my DS today at work. I had unlocked the next route, so I wanted to transfer Tauros back in, but before I could hit the Connect button a fuckin' Hoothoot "joined me" and it wouldn't let me transfer my Tauros. So I switched back to remove him. During the "return journal" it said that Hoothoot was sad probably because the bitch moved in before I had a chance to put something back. :lol

Wasn't this the same for the original G/S/C daily events?
