I'm playing Silver. I have him paralyzed and he's down in the very very red, like a sliver of health left and he's resisting any and all methods of capture. I've gone through a good handful of dusk, ultra, and great balls. I don't have any heavy balls though...where do I buy those?

And I think I read somewhere that there's a second master ball in the top of Goldenrod's radio tower.
you see i had this same problem for him where i used a bunch of balls and then i reset. then when i tried again it only took 2 balls. i think it's all chance, so you might as well just keep trying with the dusk balls. you can't buy the heavy balls, you have to get that ball maker to make them. i only used dusk balls though. and you can buy those at pokemarts.

If you're stuck at Whitney and her dreaded Miltank.

Get a Gastly - make sure Miltank is her remaining Pokemon.. preferably - curse the cow. Enjoy!

I support this Pro Tip™, Gastly's curse + Magby's flame body. I hadn't saved my game in like 3 hours and was horribly outclassed by Miltank. DOn't know what I would've done if suddenly all that progress was lost. :lol

I normally don't use a master ball unless I'm sure from the start that's what I'm gonna do.

My route (in Platinum) is usually throw 5 Quickballs, get him down with False Swipe, put him asleep, throw about 25-30 of my Ultras/Dusks (Dusk if possible, otherwise Ultra), then go forever with Timer balls.
And if I run out, reset, try again. With some good music and some school assignments, it's no hassle at all.

All references to a Master Ball in the radio tower refer to winning the trainer ID# lottery, which is only a little more likely than... winning the lottery. You should only count on having one master ball.

Don't get me wrong, I know that its gonna take a bit of patience. I think I'm ill equipped with the balls I have right now so I'm out of the caves getting Kurt to make some for me.

Ohhhhhh shoot I just remembered that it takes Kurt a real 24 hours to turn apricorns into pokeballs. ughhhhhhhh

When you die in Pokemon, you don't lose any progress. You just lose 50% (might be more forgiving in the more recent games) of your money and return to the nearest Pokemon Center.

I just use the Master Ball on the version mascot anyways (except for RBY obviously, for that you're supposed to use it on Mewtwo), it just feels right. I mean what's the point if you're not going to use them?

(This not counting my first playthrough of Blue where I used it on a level 40 Golbat... :lol)

It's a LOT more forgiving. I was surprised when I lost against
Red
and only lost like 10,000 monies. I had like 500k at that point.

You could use the time manipulation trick. Just put it on 23:59, let it roll over.

About the money thing, totally what Andrex said. I remember how I fought Andrex in Platinum and kept losing because he had this stupid Starly against my Turtwig, and I lost $89 every battle when I had around 2000, and then I when I won I got like 900, way over the total I lost.

I just bred a Scyther, and was pleasantly surprised to find out he know something called Vacuum Wave, which I've never heard of before. Fighting, special, 40 power, first attack. Pretty cool.

Also my Scyther has Technician as his ability.

How best do I go about getting a metal coat?

Lvl 45 Lugia, Paralyzed, and with 25% HP remaining:

6.250% chance per Dusk Ball, approximately 17 Dusk Balls needed on average.

2.833% chance per Ultra Ball, approximately 36 Ultra Balls needed on average.

1.235% chance per Poké Ball, approximately 81 Poké Balls needed on average.

---

If you have him paralyzed at 1HP, then:

7.096% chance per Dusk Ball, approximately 15 Dusk Balls needed on average.

---

And just for laughs, your odds of capturing him with an entry Poké Ball (Full health, no status problems):

0.416% chance per Poké Ball, approximately 241 Poké Balls needed on average.

Completely forgot about this, it's been so long since I've ever been in danger of losing like that in the pokemon main game. My mindset really added to the epicness of that fight for me though so I'm glad I forgot.

What is the % chance with a Heavy Ball? Worse or better than a Dusk Ball?

I think I'll just buy 241 Pokeballs. That way sounds so much cooler.

Koga's Muk is a piece of shit. Fuck it.

Now I need serious help. My Pikachu's defense is 30ish. Its Sp Def is even lower. Its level 44. What can I do to help?

Where can I get a thunderstone?

The Elite four has been the least fun part of this game. If you want to go up to level 50 you'll have to grind for hours.

Nah my starter was already level 60-ish by that point but my team sucked as far as type effectiveness went, so I had to level my Gyarados from level 38 to 50 (for Ice Fang.) It actually didn't take that long, Victory Road isn't a bad place to level really.

Nothing really. His defense will always be crap. http://www.smogon.com/dp/pokemon/pikachu

Actually all of his stats are crap, except speed which is average. Surprisingly his attack is higher than his special attack. :lol

I don't think you can get Thunderstones pre-nat dex unless someone trades you one.

god, it's impossible to find anything on GTS. Yuo just want a fuccking ledyba because you have heart gold and ledyba isn't in it, and everyone wants a level 100 squirtle or some shit in exchange. Same thing with every other pokemon.

I have had a level 1 cyndaquil up for about 72 hours asking for a bulbasaur (any level, any gender). I think this is a reasonable request, but it's not getting fulfilled.

Also, I hope for the gen 5 version of the GTS that Nintendo adds the ability to search for pokemon on the GTS based on what you're willing to offer. You should be able to point to any pokemon in your party or box and say "I'm willing to trade that. Give me a list of all the pokemon on the GTS that are on offer in exchange for one of these."

You shouldn't have to go through the GTS manually to find something to trade any particular pokemon for.

Either you find a Light Ball to go with it, or you evolve it (I can get you a Thunderstone tomorrow if you're willing to wait 12-something hours).

I think it should be a bidding system like eBay.

Dang, this game was all going good until I walked into the pokéthlon and the game corner. What were they thinking? So disappointed. Ugh.

So if the Raikou I caught has a nature I don't like, do I re-start, faint the creature, and then have it respawn at some point? When does it respawn?
I think the legendaries respawn when you defeat the Elite Four again and the game saves before the credits. The next time you start the game, any roamers you KO'd will be back on the map and with their new stats already set in place. Haven't verified this yet.

Andrex said:
No, the roaming legendaries have a set nature when you start the game.
This isn't true in ANY 3rd/4th gen game as far as I can tell. In my experience, their stats are always set the moment they start appearing in the wild but before you actually initiate the first encounter. In FRLG, this is when you fix Celio's machine. In Emerald, it's when you select red/blue to release Latias/Latios. In DPPt, it's when you press A in front of Mesprit/Cresselia and they show their Pokedex picture and fly off, or when you talk to Oak and he mentions Articuno/Zapdos/Moltres. I've verified all of these myself. Their stats are always generated right there on the spot, and I doubt HGSS is different.

What level should my Pokemon be for the Elite Four?
I cleared it with no Pokemon over level 38, but I had to use up all my Battle Items on Lance and it was kind of a pain.

I don't get it... I have two badges now. Am I supposed to be able to smash rocks or cut little trees in my way? I vaguely remember something being said about it but I have no idea what it was.

I'm such a Pokenub... :lol

Is level 40 a good level to fight the E4 or should I level up a little more?
40's the bare minimum. If you have good type coverage, then bring like 20 or more revives. If you're not so covered on types, then bring like 50 revives and prepare to still possibly lose.
Salaadin said:

Ill level up some
Try going through them and not using many revives or potions. Let yourself die instead of using too many items and then heal and repeat. I leveled up my team from 40 to 46 that way.

Go to your bag, then click on the icon that looks like a CD. Teach the HM## moves to your Pokemon, and you'll be able to use those moves on the overworld.

currently using:

Ghastly - lvl 6 (leveling him up)
Quilava - lvl 19
Croconaw - lvl 18
Bayleef - lvl 19
Pideotto - lvl 20

Thinking about my final set im planning on using:

Typhlosion, Haunter, Alakazam, Scizor, Red Garados, and either Dragonite or Nido King. Sound solid?

how do i get heart scales?
The easiest way I've found in HGSS is via the itemfinder on the beach Pokewalker course (after 2000 steps, I think). There are other ways, but I haven't really looked into them yet.

In Plat, the simplest way was by fulfilling the Solaceon newspaper man's request to see a certain Pokemon each day, as he only requests Pokemon that you've already seen.

Johto: Route 32 (With Dowsing MCHN), Violet City, Cianwood City, Dark Cave
Kanto: Route 19, Vermillion City (With Dowsing MCHN), Vermillion City, Rock Tunnel, Victory Road
Also Pokeathlon offers it as a prize.

I think it's easier to get Heart Scales from D/P/Pt and then just trade them over.
