Pokémon Heart Gold/Superior Silver |OT|

Do the starter Pokemon you you choose after beating all 16 gyms come with more moves than usual? I got a level 5 Bulbasaur off the GTS that has Solarbeam already, and it originated in "Kanto." Think it is hacked?

If it's parent had SolarBeam, I would assume it's a Egg Move. But it could also have a TM installed move too...

I bred my Houndoom in Diamond, and the baby Houndour inherited all 4 moves...Dark Pulse, Flamethrower, Sunny Day, and SolarBeam.

Pro Tip

If you're stuck at Whitney and her dreaded Miltank.

Get a Gastly - make sure Miltank is her remaining Pokemon.. preferably - curse the cow. Enjoy!

In the city with Sprout Tower, don't remember the name of it, there's a guy who will trade an you an Onix for a Drowsee. There is a patch of grass just south (?) of the city that has Drowzees. Easy-peasy.

I'm 100% sure it is for a Bellsprout.

Of course I am playing HG version. Maybe it is different in SS.

edit: Serebii confirms that I am right.

Drowzee is for the Machop is Goldenrod which makes sense considering that Drowzee are found outside of Goldenrod, and nowhere near the Sprout Tower.

Yea, it was a Bellsprout. I was confusing it with the guy in Goldenrod who trades the Drowzee for the Machamp. >_>

So I'm having some trouble with Clair. I find her team to be pretty easy up until Kingdra hits the battlefield. Here's my current roster:

Level 36 Meganium
Level 36 Ampharos
Level 37 Gyarados
Level 36 Togetic
Level 28 Haunter

Should I raise my team some more?

And where can I find the stone to evolve Togetic?

You can win it in a Bug Catching Contest. I got a friend online to give me one.

I just picked this up yesterday, and I am experiencing a high level of frustration.

It's not because of Whitney's Miltank, it went down easy.

It's not because of my pokewalker being finicky in counting my steps.

It's because no matter what I do to my router, I can't get my DSi connected to WFC. I can use the shop, I can use the web browser, but I can't use Nintendo WFC.

Screw you, Nintendo.

Yes, I just did.

Can anyone help me evolve my Haunter and Togetic?

Have a look at this http://www.serebii.net/heartgoldsoulsilver/pokewalker-area.shtml#ruggedpath
When you send a Pokemon to a course, one Pokemon is picked from each of groups. In your case, you got Onix instead of Magby so it was impossible to get Magby with that Pokemon.
It almost feels like cheating to look at that, but thanks, that's very useful! I had been annoyed that I missed magby (only ever saw it once?), but now I see why...

And I just checked the phone number things myself. Wow. That's yet another thing where they polished some aspects of the game so much, and them omit something that would seem really obvious (like button control of autorun/walking). o_O Oh well, I guess this means the phone book has enough space for everyone in the game. I've been adding everyone so far. At least I think you can just ignore phone calls and they don't do anything but bounce the icon unless they are plot phone calls.

No DS games support WPA. Sure, the DSi does, but no DS games do.

Some of the boards are impossible to win by logic, actually most of the boards seem to be about luck. I have been using this Voltorb Flip Helper. It does really well up until level 4 for me, but I haven't passed that level using this helper. Still, I have about 2,000 coins out of playing levels 1-3 a bunch of times.

Ah, thanks for that. Hopefully I should have enough coins for Thunderbolt tonight so I can carry on.

UPDATE: WOW, that is amazing, really damn useful tool!

You're suppose to either transfer your Regigigigigigigias over from D/P, or tranfer your Regirock, Regice, and Registeel over from R/S/E. That was the idea behind that.

Except you need the three Regis in D/P as well.. Stupid idea IMO, oh well.

I'm using WEP, and I set my transfer rate to one, my channel to 1 (and I tried 11) and all the other stuff I'm supposed to do according to Nintendo.

I'm kind of annoyed. I found instructions specific to my router, but they tell me to use options that don't exist in the new firmware. I guess I'm just SOL.

The idea was that you transfer the three Regis from RSE to DPP in order to catch Regigigas.

The only way to catch the three Regis in 4th gen is by having an event Regigigas and this is only in Platinum. You can then take those three Regis to catch your own Regigigas that is level 1. Or if you don't have an event Regigigas, you can transfer the three Regis from RSE just like in Diamond or Pearl.
It isn't a catch 22 situation.

Well, you can always take someone else's Regigigas (not sure if it works with one without the fateful encounter flag), catch the three Regi's, give it back, then catch your own Regigigas.

Is this worth picking up considering I played the crap out of the original Silver version? I'm in the mood for a pokemon game since I haven't played one for years.

Should I pick up Platinum instead?
Anybody care to answer?

thanks :D

Yeah, go with Silver. You might wanna have the "hey I remember this! awesome!" experience than the "oh man all this new stuff and underground and things I don't understand because I skipped the 3rd gen I'm not comfortable".

I kind of dislike the whole IV/EV thing.#

It's interesting, but it doesn't promote the whole "be friends with your pokémon" etc. feelings that are meant to be portrayed in the storyline and anime.

What I tend to get is people laughing at you and belittling you for having "worthless" Pokémon without the best IVs, not to mention half of the Pokémon are considered pointless in competetive battling. So what if I want to keep my monferno without evolving it? I like it that way. :S
Wasn't there some guy in the anime who does the same thing? I remember Smogonites joking about how that guy felt like he was modelled after them :lol

The point of IVs is to help differentiate all Pokemon and make them "unique" as are natures. Since they're stat-based, they're obviously abused for this purpose. If Nintendo wants to emphasize this idea of trust and bond, they would make the natures change depending on how you used your Pokemon (much like EVs). IVs shouldn't exist at all imo as there's no strategy involved there. You want the highest in all stats unless you want a specific Hidden Power. EVs has absolutely nothing to do with your point as they're based on how you train your Pokemon. Breeding has no bearing on it.

SoulSilver will have the nostalgia factor as well as the social aspect of GAF playing with you. Platinum will give you a new experience. Maybe get Platinum if you enjoy SuckSilver.

The pokeathlon dome.

My honest first thought was that I'd travelled forward in time a few hundred years from old wooden villages to a huge dome with way too many spinning lights.

I was always more at home with Pokemon having crazy tech stuff than being about nature and organic designs.

Hell, I like it more when there's a big contrast between nature and futuristic stuff in the games. After all we are catching animals with machines.

Edit: Man all these people asking for items and I can't help anyone for at least a week. Sorry!

I guess I never really thought of pokeballs like that, but then again they are made from apricorns etc. which are natural...

I just imagine pokemon as really similar to our world but with cool creatures like this, kind of different evolved animals that we are at one with. That's why I can relate to it, it's so similar to real life but different just enough to be interesting. The Pokéathlon seems like really disconnected minigames tbh. :/

I already said this, but just to reiterate...Mr. Game and his tiny little building with free coins/prizes and NO ONE ELSE IN THE CITY THERE is creepy. I've only talked to one guy so far who actually visited it, and apparently got kicked out because he was too good. Maybe everyone else got kicked out as well...

My name is Mr. Game!
My heart pounds with excitement when people enjoy my Coin game!
In fact, that's what I live for! Go ahead and play it!
Make my heart pound with excitement!
Mr. Game: Show me how you play and make my heart pound with excitement!

I think he has some sort of fetish. ;_;

Would anyone mind taking my Gengar and training it for a bit? It's quite a few levels behind my other Pokemon and there aren't many trainers left to battle in Johto.

Did we ever get officially told why we had the Game Corner replaced?

I figured it's because some ratings board finally went "Wait, gambling? Lol, no." (I know we in Europe lost the slot machines in Platinum), but is there a source?

yeah, my guess is because of Europe. It was quite disturbing going into the casino for the first time...I was all "AWESOME, Johto casino music, time to hit those slo- eh? Who's this old fart with the flashing table?"

Gambling is a firm "+18" rating in Europe so I guess they decided to go the safe route instead of risking butchering the game in the last minute.

Couldn't they have turned the casino into a fun filled house full of fun games though. I find the lack of variety disturbing...

I feel your pain. My DSi connects no problem to my WEP wireless connection, but I can't get any games to connect at all. I have to dig my old laptop out and use the Nintendo USB Wi-fi connector whenever I want to go online.

HGSS have the most minigames out of any Pokemon yet, with the Pokeathlon. We lost one of 'em, one that either you have in Platinum, or you had in past Pokemon games.

And it's not that fun, either. I spent far more time in the Underground and I'll spend far more time in the Pokeathlon. I'm way indifferent about the loss of the slot machines.

Would it be wise to use the first Master Ball on Lugia, or no?
you get more than one? and what game are you playing. if its soul silver and you're seeing him at lvl 45, just catch him with dusk/heavy/ultra balls. its easy if you can paralyze him and then get his health into the red. i think i used 2 balls.

I'm playing Silver. I have him paralyzed and he's down in the very very red, like a sliver of health left and he's resisting any and all methods of capture. I've gone through a good handful of dusk, ultra, and great balls. I don't have any heavy balls though...where do I buy those?

And I think I read somewhere that there's a second master ball in the top of Goldenrod's radio tower.
