You can get someone who has it running to check by showing them a Pokemon that you're the OT of.

Yes. Apparently that's easier than the RNG making a 31/X/31/31/31/0 out of 31/31/31/31/31/31 and 31/31/X/31/31/0 parents. But thankfully after 55 babies with that breeding pair I've FINALLY got one. Hooray!

Basically the chances of getting a shiny taking into account how many people are on the list. Since there's like 150 or something people there's like an 85% chance you'll get a shiny in a batch of 50 eggs.
