Pokemon sequel is under development for DS

If so then it's not a desert, but a route with some sand on it.:lol

Close enough.

It looks alot more like Hiroshima to me with all the sea ports and huge buildings. It would make sense since Chugoku hasn't been used as a region yet.

Hmm, maybe, I can see some similarities. But I just think the resemblance to Manhattan is far more prominent, and it seems to fit with the comments about the region being really far away.

Quasi-Edit: And I get the whole Dream Eater thing as well, but technically Drowzee and Hypno are known as the "Hypnosis Pokémon," so that doesn't serve as a direct link in my eyes.

Munchlax is the Big Eater pokemon and Snorlax the Sleeping Pokemon.
Bonsli is the Bonsai Pokemon and Sudowoodo the Imitation pokemon.
Chingling is the Bell pokemon and Chimecho the Wind Chime pokemon.
The entire Marill line changes with every evo including baby form (Polka, Aquamouse, Aquarabbit).

Pre-evos tend to have a different classification that still makes sense. So when it's said that both Hypno and Drowzee specifically put people to sleep so they can eat their dreams, and a little rotund ball with a snout pops up with the same typing, shares one ability, and is classified as the dream eater... yeah, I do smell a pre-evo. Especially since Gen 4 was riff with those.

But whatever, it's not important :lol

Problem is that Dream Eater should go after Hypnosis, not before.

I'm leaning heavily towards NYC/Manhattan. The park, bridge, and general shape of the island seem to lead to that conclusion, even if they're more modern/Japanese looking.

Hm... Fair enough. I still don't see enough of a similarity in terms of design to be a pre-evo, but I guess we'll see. ;D

Also, about the region, it occurred to me that Cianwood City is modeled after the town of Naruto--which is located in Tokushima Prefecture on the island of Shikoku. If we suppose that Isshu is at least in part modeled after Shikoku, then there must be a portion that connects to Cianwood (Naruto) and the Safari Zone. It's hard to see because of the text covering up part of the map on the right-hand side, but there seems to be another mountain range (albeit slightly smaller than the one on the left), and then sea on the far right. I almost wonder if the "desert" area isn't actually the Tottori sand dunes, but rather a symbolic "wasteland" that represents the destruction wrought on Hiroshima due to the first atomic bombing.

Maybe Hypno carry sleeping prey back to the nest for these babies to feed on before they evolve into Drowsee and can hunt on their own.

Before I post something: is it okay to link to a post on another forum when the poster in question used a scan from a magazine but drew/typed all over it such that it essentially becomes a different image?

I'm going to use the crocodile, will name it "Crikey" (RIP Steve Irwin), and it will be awesome.

The fire type Donkey Kong ripoff looks cool, but my fire slot is already taken by the Firepig. Decisions, decisions...

>_> I have heard worse. Someone named Manta (manta ray pokemon) after Steve Irwin.

Well, more evidence that the region is probably based on Chugoku lies in the fact that the region is also called the "Sanin-Sanyo" region.

Sanin meaning "Yin of the mountain" is the northern area of the region while Sanyo, meaning "Yang of the mountain" is the southern area of the region.

Because of this the Chugoku area is usually linked with the concept of Yin/Yang and Black/White.

Plus we already know that Reshiram and Zekrom are known as the "Yin and Yang Pokemon". These mountains would be a perfect place to set the stage for these legendaries.

That was something that I considered as well, and it fits really well with the yin/yang concept, but Hiun as Hiroshima would place it in Sanyo, while the desert as the Tottori sand dunes would place it in Sanin. Something doesn't add up. =/ Nonetheless, I'm determined to figure this out!

Also, someone posted this picture of NYC on Bulbagarden. I won't link to the scan that they drew all over, but I'm sure you can find it if you look hard enough in the "Isshu" topic over on their forums.

EDIT: I'm getting way to invested in figuring this out. :lol I'm wondering if the name "Hiun" is supposed to be 悲運 in terms of Hiroshima's "misfortune" of being the first city to endure an atomic bombing. Likewise, the Sky Arrow Bridge connected to the city makes me wonder if the name comes from 飛雲--"cloud floating in the sky."

Oh, and to those saying that the pink Psychic mon won't evolve into Drowzee based on its appearance, there are a few existing baby Pokémon that are dissimilar to their adult forms.

Tyrogue, despite obviously being Fighting, doesn't really have anything common appearance-wise to any of the Hitmons. It looks more like a baby Machop.
Azurill is a Normal-type, unlike Marill. They look similar, but it's quite a major difference.
Budew doesn't look much like Roselia; the only thing they have in common is the yellow and green colour scheme.
Chingling looks nothing like Chimecho. Their only similarities are that they're both based on some sort of percussion instrument, and Chingling's colour is the same as the 'float' on Chimecho's head.

It's not out of the question that the new Pokémon is a baby Drowzee, based on its type, classification and abilities.

Deviant art is beating Pixiv for me with the 5th gen Pokemon . . . the only one I can alot of art for in the new batch is Chiramii because it already looks super cute and they are either drawing it in that style or trying to draw it in a even "cuter" style. :/

I recently went back to Platinum after a long period of playing HeartGold. What I miss the most are the touch menus. I keep going to my PC box to switch Pokemon around and I pull out my stylus and then I'm like "oh wait why is everything on the top screen?"

Yeah, same. Even though I love Sinnoh, SoulSilver is better because of everything they improved.

Pivix gave me this awesome crocodile combo

I wonder if Munna is just going to end up being baby drowzee.

EDIT: So far I know my initial team will be that desert croc, smugleaf, and that fire...thing.

I like the fire ape, but the rest are so-so in my opinion. They aren't horrible in anyway, but I think the art style difference from the first two generations are where my problems with them come from. There was something really natural about those generations.. look at pidgeys feet compared to the new guys.. Its just the art style IMO.

Anyways, I cant wait for more concrete details about these games and to see more new pokemon.. So far these aren't my favorite, but its always fun no matter what.

Does the name Munna mean anything in Japanese? If I recall correctly Drowzee and Hypno are called Sleep and Sleeper in Japan, so maybe the name is a play on something sleep-related. If it is then there's further evidence of it being a baby Drowzee.

If not, then I'm just going to call the whole thing off and go to bed instead.

Flamin' Ape™ makes my pick for starter obvious. Smugleaf it is.

My team shall consist of Smugleaf, Flamin' Ape™, Sand Croc, Gear, Obligatory Bird, and Marty the Zebra.

Alternative team: six cute-as-fuck chinchillas. They'll be my band of adorable pickpockets.

to blackout from hence forth or not...

There's still a long way until release, so I think it's safe to refrain from blackout for the time being. :D

Plus, you have to at least stay tuned for next week's Pokémon Sunday--it looks like they'll be unveiling the mystery behind those crazy new silhouettes! :O :O :O

I held out until D/P came out in America... only read a few choice Pokedex entries when it hit Japan, but kept everything else a surprise. And I enjoyed the game immensely because of that.

Man, I love these new Pokemon so much.

They're all great, but I especially love the ape and zebra. <3

I hope we get all their English names at E3, along with many new Pokemon! :o

I tried using sarcasm to make fun of PS being irrelevant due to the CoroCoro leak since everyone else already did the :lol , but I guess it's not very effective... =/

Well, apparently the "daruma" in Hihidaruma's name (the fire ape) refers to THIS.

Daruma.jpg

It's part of the fire ape's name and the resemblance is uncanny. Kind of neat to know what the ape is based on... I LOVE THE APE. :)

Also, some cool speculation going around that Zekrom's Terra Voltage ability will let it hit Ground-types with Electric moves. :O

EDIT: And here's where the Fire-type comes from:

At the end of the year, all the Daruma are brought back to the temple they were purchased from for a traditional burning ceremony.[22] This ceremony, called the Daruma Kuyo (だるま供養, daruma kuyo?) is held once a year usually right after New Years Day. The most renowned of these events are held at the Nishi-Arai Daishi Temple (Tokyo), and the Dairyu-ji Temple (Gifu). At these events, people bring the Daruma figures they had used that year to the temple. After expressing gratitude to them, they turn it over to the temple and buy new ones for the next year. All of the old Daruma figures are burnt together in the temple. After a solemn display of the monks’ entry, reading of the sutras, and blowing of horns, the tens of thousands of figurines are then set aflame.

I hope they mix the box system from Platinum with HG/SS for Black and White. The thing I hate about HG/SS box system is the lack of the "yellow hand" ability to move Pokemon in mass (unless I just haven't been able to figure it out yet lol).

That, the Vs. Seeker, and being able to put the map on the bottom screen while searching for roaming pokemon are the three things I miss the most whenever I play HG/SS.

Maybe your sarcasm was Ice type.

See what I did? That's funny, right?
