Pokemon sequel is under development for DS

I'd love for breeding to be expanded and allow you to make your monsters ultra customizable in appearance and attributes, but combining separate species of Pokemon doesn't seem like something Nintendo would do.

Someone did a drawing on the pokebeach forum.

I dont see the reason for speculating its an evo/fusion. The only thing this looks like it could evolve from is Ninetails and no way in heck is that happening.

Honestly? Fun. We've got a few weeks to go before new information, and I'm just having fun with the possibilities.

So do people like the design? Personally I don't. It's definitely doesn't fit in with the generation 1 or 2 Pokemon. Should I just keep this to myself?

... We don't even know what it looks like! But the mock up looks good to me, looks like a "Pokemon"

Don't worry, even though I loved 4th gen, there's just something about gen 1 and 2 that feels more..organic?

Personally, I'm glad they've moved away from the Gen 1/2 style. I like the more stylized creations that they've focused on in the last couple generations. Besides, every generation will have a bunch of caricatured "real" animals to go along with the earlier style.

edit: some people have complained about some newer monsters being "too Digimon-esque" which I don't understand because as I remember it, there were some really great Digimon designs (and a lot of bad ones).

Don't tell anyone, but my least favorite gen design wise is gen 2. I always felt the Pokemon stuck out way too much, I still love them, but there's just something... weird about them.

I'm sort of the opposite. Even though by generation 4 I was over it I skipped the third generation entirely because of this and it wasn't until the 4th gen that I even touched or looked at the games.

Anyway when does the Pokemon's real design be revealed? I'd love to have a little GAF contest where we submit interpretations of the silhouette. Sort of like the magazine ad thread. :D

Gen 1's style is quite fun, but in Gen 2 GameFreak really tried too hard in emulating real animals. Designs like Girafig, Stantler, Nocthowl... yuck. I really prefer the newer stuff, though every generation has its retards.

has anyone actually thought it could be an all new pokemon?

Of course. But most of us can't draw a mock up, so our fun comes from thinking of the possible evolutions it could be.

Looks like a Lucario Evolution. It'd be like how electabuzz and magmar got evolutions.

Yeah, the fan drawing really looks like a Lucario evolution to me. Of course, I doubt it'll really be an evolution since it's probably a legendary.

I hope they have fewer legendaries this gen. also, how the hell will they top Arceus? (which I thought was pathetic for a "god" pokemon if the movie is anything to go by)

I didn't watch the movie so I don't know the extent of Arceus' power but going from what you're saying it seems like a pretty weak "god" or whatever. I think they could get away with the reason for Arceus being so weak is that its power was split between some number of Pokemon roaming across the land.

Catching these Pokemon would give the trainer immense power and an organization exists that sole purpose is to harness these Pokemon's power to take over the world.

But then again isn't that what the Lake Trio were? I mean I know that wasn't the reason why Team Galactic was after them but are the Lake Trio related at all to Arceus' power? (Not sure if this is spoiler-worthy)

yea, it was because his power were split into plates. I just though for a pokemon who created everything, he seemed so gimped when he was being defeated by the pokemon's electric attacks. (he gave up the water, earth, electric, and dragon plates to the humans). It just felt strange to me that he is a "god" and yet so weak.

and yes, the Lake Trio were created by Arceus

Oh damn my little story is ruined. :( I never did follow the story of Pokemon too deeply.

Has any pokemon ever had more than 2 evolutions? Baby pokemon don't count.
There is no 4 stage evolutionary set. The closest you can get to this is a branched evolution like with the Ralts family, but there is no Pokemon that can evolve 3 times.

That's because if they made him all powerful like he is meant to be then there would be no movie, as soon as Arceus got mad he would just destroy everything and nothing would stop him.
They had to make him weak so they could have a storyline.

Yeah I was thinking Eevee too. Poliwag/whirl/wrath/toad as well? If he means strictly evo's by leveling then I don't think there are any with more than 2.

Somewhat off-topic, but I felt like sharing anyway. I was reading this thread earlier today and it was getting me excited for HG/SS and obviously gen 5 so I went back to playing Platinum. I wanted to train a good Arcanine for myself and managed to breed a shiny Growlithe w/ an Adamant nature and good Attack IV as a result. I've traded for shinnies before but I've never been able to find/breed one of my own and it finally happened after all these years. And I have GAF to thank. :D

I meant strict one chain evolutions. It appears there aren't, and I hope it stays that way to give equal chance. Honestly I wouldn't want them to ruin my childhood, but it would be really cool if the OG 151 all got evolutions one day. Probably would end up ruining our childhoods though.

I hope this new game is completely left field, 3D and has radical changes to the battle system/movement system/core gameplay. If its not broke don't fix it applies well to pokemon, but haven't we all longed for some changes? Some risks taken? If some other games can do full 3D, pokemon should be able to as well, at least for the overworld with all the repeated assets in every pokemon game especially.

Oh shit I just remembered: Steel Eevee evolution possibly?

If that's the one, doesn't look too hot to me. Maybe it'll also have a fur pattern or scar somewhere, but I think that's about as close as we can get without specific information.

I think it's exclusively because of the hair. If I just put a hand over that it's much better, but then it's just Lucario.

it would have made one hell of a pokemon movie though. Ash and Pikachu must redeem humanity in God's eyes before he casts his Judgement and destroys the pokemon world, declaring it a failure.

then as soon as the movie ends ash gives up his pokemon and loses to the next region's first gym leader

I think they're really going to go crazy with this game compared to past generations; they don't really have to stick to the formula as much because it's the 3rd series on DS, not the first on DS2.

So true. XD

Though I always thought the movies were sort of... out of canon to the anime. I usually thought the moves are their own continuity.

they pretty much are considering Jewel of Life directly follows The Rise of Darkrai and The Sky Warrior (they both featured Dialga and Palkia)

Seriously though, I hope it's called Pokemon Black. That just sounds like sex. You already know, by name alone, you're in for a big game.

Pokemon Black and Pokemon White?

Wow I thought the same thing. Maybe it's a branched Lucario evolution :D

Not really a fan at all of anthropomorphic Pokemons, especially furry ones....
This new Pokemon will become the next target of Rule 34 whether you like it or not. And you definitely will not like it.
