Gpara's article says on the title "It's been 4 years!", and then says something about changes to gameplay and new monsters, from what I was able to understand.
And with all the Pokémon-Z rumors, I think it's pretty much confirmed.

BTW the anime in Japan should be almost over. Ash has 7 badges and is about to get the 8th pretty soon. So unless they do another filler arc like Battle Frontier, Gen 5 should come out soon.

I wanted the 5th gen on DS2, oh well. This might be a good idea, release the first 2 games on DS then release the third one on the new hardware. Third one will be enhanaced in graphics and gameplay. It will also be a great incentive to purchase DS2 on the spot rather than wait. There has to be a connection between DS and DS2 tho for trading and stuff.

I don't think a new Pokemon generation would necessarily mean DS2 would be far off. Perhaps they wanted to milk the greatest system install base ever one last time, and DS2 will more likely than not be backwards compatible.

I'm not nearly as excited for Gen 5 as I was for Gen 4. Maybe that'll change later this year when I *finally* get to play Gen 2 for the first time.
I think the realisation that I'd never "catch them all" finally caught up to me. I do want a few things though:
1) Faster battles, less text (i.e. just have a constant rain animation behind the background than text that says "It is raining")
2) Visible EVs (yeah, right)
3) New monster lines kept to a minimum. No more Rattata or Pidgey clones for each region. Instead, use existing ones in interesting ways.
4) Don't gimp rare or uncommon types (pure bug, pure flying etc.)
5) Faster breeding and simpler berry/consumables management

But seriously, most of the games take place in a sorta other-world take on japanese areas, so thats a reason. Now if this gen goes for the lets explore the world approach (like SMT Strange Journey did) then you might see a multi-racial cast.
