Pokemon sequel is under development for DS

what? no way, I'd much rather have the next pokemon on a DS successor. I love pokemon and its current formula, but I also like that they change and adapt with each new generation. If the gen V is released on the DS, I think it will be too much like HG/SS and it will be hard for a regular or casual consumer to understand the differences. Especially if the rumors are true and it comes out this year.

What's all this about "rumors?" Isn't it confirmed to be out this year?

No one is going to confuse Gen 5 with Gen 4 just because it's on the same system. There will be tons of marketing, lots of new Pokemon showing up in the TV show, etc. Anyone that gives a damn will know.

Why the fear of being "looked" the same when it is supposed to be different?
Probably because some people want cosmetic and aesthetic changes. I think the differences in this game are more inline with changes to the formula.

The issue isn't so much people confusing Gen 4 with Gen 5, so much as it is leaving people wondering what the hell the point would be of buying HeartGold and SoulSilver. Are a huge sum of people really going to be interested in picking up a remake when they're already aware that a new and improved sequel is on the way in a couple of months, for the same system?

Not really, especially when they emphasize that it's just a remake.

as much as I'm looking forward to what the DS2 will be, I don't know if I'm ready to buy a new handheld yet so I am ok with gen 5 being on the DS

This one too. I don't want to buy a new handheld, especially when DS is still going strong.

Well, HG/SS were released a long time ago in japan.

And, outside a few fanatics (like, say, us) no one will know of this new game until nintendo decides to release it.

It's ridiculous the long time it takes for these games to be localized, when Galaxy, Zelda and other nintendo games came out here almost instantly.

7 Months ago to be exact so yes most of the japanese are ready for more.

Not many fans in europe/america will want to wait till this time next year for this 5th gen game to come out, most people want something to play now.

Am I the only one here that's more excited for HG/SS (US) than this next gen? Granted we know very little about the game(s) so I'm sure if they change enough of the formula I would still buy it. But I'm kind of getting tired of all these new Pokemon. We have like what, 500+ now is it? Getting them all is already a royal pain, not to mention the new pokes become less and less aesthetically pleasing with each generation. Sure the original games had their share of ugly ones but the last couple batches have been pretty lame and the promotional poke that's been shown to advertise the next generation really isn't all that great in my opinion.

Maybe its nostalgia speaking but I wish they would just take everything they already have and cram it all into one big game for the time being.

The release of a new generation this fall in Japan matches the time line of precious Pokemon games perfectly. I don't understand why people are complaining about 'too soon'.

Remember, Diamond/Pearl was released September 28, 2006 in Japan. That will be four years ago this fall. Before that, Ruby/Saph was released November 21, 2002 in Japan. Before that Gold/Silver was November 21, 1999.

So, four year span is expected.

HGSS is not a 'new generation', it's the 4th, just like the FR/LG was an extension of the 3rd.

Yes, I'm definitely excited about HG/SS, but I don't know if I would say more excited. I mean, from what I know already about HG/SS I'm pretty pumped. With the combination of the aesthetics, the pokewaker, pokeathlon, and good utilization of the touch screen, it seems as if HG/SS is lined up to be a pretty fantastic game. On the other hand, we don't have any information about the fifth Gen. But I've never been disappointed with a new gen, and I anticipate a lot of changes and new game features. So on one hand, I'm excited for a game (hg/ss) that is set to be a perfect conglomeration of current gen features, but on the other hand the promise of more change and novel features also has my appetite whetted. I don't know! Too much to think about

I for one would be really surprised if Nintendo decided to ignore the DSi and go to the next console.
Thats why I think the new hardware announcement is Wii related.
BUt for some reason im in the minority.

ALSO:
Is it just me or has it been easier to get all the pokemon this gen than the previous. Even if its close to 500 mons the WiFi trading has made it sooo much easier.

Previous gens I would get so overwhelmed because I would get so bored after the elite four.

Now, the online has made it so much fun and lets not forget social networking like this forum.

Granted you know the person or have talked to them online. The GTS is flooded with the most unreasonable trade requests ever. Example, I tried looking for a Japanese ditto the other day and 95% (if not more) of the trades requested level 100 legendaries.

Nintendo really needs to put some lvl restrictions on GTS trades to cut down on all the spam.

GTS has some other obvious vulnerabilities though. Plenty of times I'd run into a pokemon with the wrong body image set, or one that I couldn't trade for despite having a pokemon of the appropriate level.

I don't really expect anything outlandish out of 5th gen as many people here wish - Gamefreak is very much built to refine, not to break new ground, but I'm totally hyped now:

Pokemon #494: ZORUA
Pokemon #495: ZOROARK

I guess I'm one of the few who actually believes GameFreak can do some significant change. guess we need to take the wait and see approach

Generation 5 is not going to be available for quite some time...at least anywhere outside of Japan. Keep in mind Diamond and Pearl released here in...April 2007.

I figured it out. Z is really...

Was a lot easier, only one im missing is Arceus due to europe being forgotten.

Still it was enjoyable to collect them all, can't wait to do it all again, with gold and silver I will probably only trade over the legendaries and level 100's just to give myself a challenge.

I do believe they broke new ground when they made Pokemon after making stuff like 2D side scrolling platformers.

I'm sure regardless of what their doing they will want it to feel like Pokemon . . . but that doesn't mean they aint doing anything ground breaking. I mean, SMG still feels like Mario.

You know how much of a heart attack you just gave me? Don't go around spreading out lies saying Zorua and Zoroark are starters.

:lol

Remember there are always like 4+ numbering schemes for Pokemon. ;-)

To be honest though I think shaking up the starter set typing would be a good idea.

they already did that 15 years ago. Pokemon Yellow version ;-)

That would be cool if it could change into any other pokemon and get a random moveset or something. Of course it is just the movie so probably not.
I wouldn't doubt if it knows the move Transform. Is Ditto the only people can can know Transform?

Zoroark just got some mroe respect points after that trailer. Only helps fuel more speculation about Gen 5 with that transformation, too.

Holy shit @ movie trailer. Love the special effects. Wish the pokemon anime was of that standard. :(
I kind of don't. It makes the film mythos the only thing to look forward to in the movies.

I'm sure you can get smeargle to use it, but I can see them allowing this new poke to learn it. Not that the move isn't kind of gimmicky/useless in competitive battle.

I just hope there is a new battle system or something. Pokemon with the MM Battle Network battle system would be amaaaaazzingg :O~~

Wow I didn't think I would say this now that I'm older but that Pokemon trailer was pretty awesome. So I don't get it. I thought Zorua/Zoroark were evil?

Mew, Ditto and Smeargle are the only Pokemon that can learn Transform.

The cartoon has a habit of either making all Pokemon good or making it so that something provoked the Pokemon and it is back to being nice by the end of the film. In the games, Darkrai is pretty much the Pokemon of nightmares but in the cartoon it is a good guy who saves the world.
