Pokemon sequel is under development for DS

I've been discouraging the possibility because there's been no evidence. The only solid thing we still have even today is the TWL number on the boxarts. This means that if it is 3DS enhanced, it will probably be in separate boxes, and not all on the same cart.
Man, we have no clue as to how any of these things work . . . from B/W online save thing and that "play it on line and bring the data back to the game" thing to the things needed for the 3DS to have a tag feature for this game.

All we know is that it supports some kind of DSi enhancement and, according to Iwata, could use 3DS tag if they supported the app.

Go youtube the vid . . . I myself find it strange that Iwata list off confirmed 3DS titles and Pokemon when talking about Tag.

Well, it's only three months until it comes out, by then we'll know everything... I just want to know if I should hold off on the DS version and wait until the 3DS version comes out.

Didn't see this bit translated yet, but it's from Andriasang:

[the official site] also notes that the Pokemon you found in Kanto, Jouto and the other areas of past Pokemon games are, for the most part, absent from Isshu.

Seems like they're going in a bit of a pattern here:

Gen I/III/V:
Extremely progressive changes to game mechanics; large number of new Pokemon; few old Pokemon in starting region

Gen II/IV:
More conservative gameplay changes; fewer new Pokemon; mix of old and new species in starting region

D/P/P ware WAY more diverse and original than GS in the starting areas.

Coolz, I kinda liked that the Hoenn games did this. Hope this means there are few pre evos/evolutions of older pokemons.

I have another question, anyone think it's sort of a scam that that release a third version of these games with mostly visual changes and stuff? Hope there won't be some "Gray" version coming out in a year.

Fuck, it's Ruby/Sapphire all over again. :(
How is it at all the same when you can trade with 4th gen games?

One of my least favorite things about HGSS is that the early areas are packed with Pidgey and Rattata. Every Pokemon game is rather formulaic, but anything to at least make it feel like a new region and adventure is a positive thing.

If they make it so it's like HGSS's Safari Zone, where they're at least catchable, I guess I won't have any complaints. It just seems like taking things away wouldn't seem like a good feature.

Edit- I guess it doesn't matter to me since I am coming close to completing my Pokedex in HGSS. It's just nicer to catch them in-game instead of trading, and trading as it currently stands sucks.

New to Pokemon? That's how it's always been. The third version will bring in people who hesitated on the first two, or are super-hardcore. Either way it's a license to print money. If you don't like it, you don't have to buy it.

I was just thinking that the announcement of this game pretty much confirmed that the 3DS would be backwards compatible.

Yes, we know it for a fact now, but it was obvious before, duh.

This is what Nintendo sent out to announce the 3DS on March 23:

Did anyone post the new screenshots for the games?

http://www.andriasang.com/e/galleries/2010/06/18/pokemon_screens/

I'm not familiar with the site, but I'm fairly certain they aren't scans or anything like that. There are screens of the PokeDex and PokeGear as well.

Edit: Looks like it was already posted. How did I miss that? :(

Yeah they're on the official site.

Has anyone else thought that they might make the third game a 3DS game? It'd be a good transition to the new platform and would totally get people to buy it with 3D shit added in.

That's what I thought. Crystal was a GBC-only game if I recall correctly.

I'm thinking this as well. Looking at rumors, Black/White could possibly launch in Japan with the 3DS or some time near it, at least. The 3DS will definitely be out by the time the 3rd game (Grey) will be released, likely before Grey is even announced.

I have no idea what they're going to do with Grey, and assuming it's a DS game, it's very likely they haven't even started work on it, so I actually think Grey could be a 3DS only game.

Yeah, I just looked and read the appropriate parts of the thread. Amazing stuff.

New Pokédex entry! :D

Tsutaaja - Grass Snake Pokémon
"Highly intelligent and very composed. Its movements become swifter when it soaks up plenty of sunlight."

If you go to Serebii.net there is a picture of the battle screen on the front page. Anyone knows what the text popping on the right side says?

I guess it would be cool if now abilities like Intimidate or attacks that increase/decrease stats flash like this speeding up the battle even more. But then again, it probably won't happen.

Well the screen leads us to believe that it might do just what you said.

Well we know that the attack animation and HP draining occur in tandem, and the weather is moved to the bottom screen, so nothing's impossible.

On Pokémon Sunday just now, they showed a few of the screenshot locations in motion. Based on the music, I can confirm that the place that looks like a beehive is a Pokémon Gym, meaning that we're probably in for another Bug-type gym leader.

Also, they just showed Zorua and Zoroark fighting, and the battles--including animations--look pretty good in motion.

It was really nice hearing the Gym music after all the talk of no gyms or whatever. The battles seemed to be moving really fast too.

Please don't be another Treecko. At least have Smugleaf's stats differ from Treecko's.

Wow showing battle scenes for every new pokemon we have seen so far. Pretty cool how wild pokemon walk into the battle scene instead of just being there and doing a animation.

So how is Zoroark pronounced?

I say

Zo-ro-ark (Zorro-ark)

But I can see it being pronounced as

Zo-roar(k) (Like Zo-Rourke in mickey rourke ;P)

Weather indicator on the bottom screen. Shouldn't be a problem.

I believe the English pronunciation will be Zoro-ark, while the Japanese movie trailer pronounced it Zor-ark.

Well, there is a clear video up on Filb now:

http://www.filb.de/1326

Nice animations on everything, and that status screen for the Pokemon looks interesting. As for music, the Pokemon Center tune and the PokeMart tune are the same (as always), while the battle music has a nice start to it. If only they weren't talking over it...

Finally, mounds and hills you can walk up and down.

I also like that damage is counted in the middle of the attack and not after.

Well considering the 3 on 3s was fake, this isn't too surprising. Although I do hope they change progression. Like make badges optional.

The Pokeball throwing animations are awesome.Hopefully other trainers will have their own throwing animations. Also the sandstorm part looked alright. It seemed that he was going up and down hills while running. Though it's probably just related to that area.

HGSS had something similar when you come out of Mt. Moon.
