Pokemon sequel is under development for DS

From a design perspective, letting Pokemon keep all learned moves will kill the game in terms of variety. All Starmie will have the same moveset. You don't have to choose between a defense-oriented Bronzong or a more offensive one, as you now have access to all the moves necessary to make it a wall or a beater.
I think what most people want is the ability to learn all of the moves at once, but having them restricted to only 4 available ones in battle. That way you don't break anything but also don't have to deal with move deleters/relearners and all that nonsense.

Please get rid of Zubats and Geodudes in caves. This thing right here epitomizes whats wrong with pokemans for me. I've been playing this game for what? Like 10 years now. There are over 400 pokemans. AND THEY STILL CAN'T THINK OF MORE THAN A FEW POKEMON THAT LIVE IN CAVES?
Fuck that shit.

New Rattata? Check! New Pidgey? Check! Same old Bat & Boulder? Double check!

I wonder if this means theyve raised the bar on the Pokemon Mystery Dungeon series (that is made by the same in house people for the main series right?)

Hopefully that also comes next year.

no, it's made by the people who does Shinen The Wanderer

Thanks for reminding me! We need a new Mystery Dungeon! I loved the DS ones, fantastic story.

From my small experience trying to get into competitave play, don't most OU pokemon have move lists that are almost expected? Like I said in my recommendation, letting them keep all moves but remain restricted to 4 move slots would reduce the need to have so many bronzongs or other pokemon.

I was honestly going to pass this game up, but after watching that video, I'm really surprised at how much they added in one generation.

damn some of the new pokemon are odd, like... they look fake odd. even though i know theyre not.

hopfully will grow on me though, the legendaries sure did and i think they are proper kick ass, specially the ghetto one

8 new pokemon and no fan art yet? Man, Poke fans be slackin'

They probably need names for them yet... though I guess they aren't also perceptive of the trailer.

Saw some Poke-porn for the girl-in-a-dress one the other day but we will need names and official art over these game screen before we see the fan art (and names) :)

I still think if people tried it that it would work, noobs go to smash tournaments all the time. Tons of people play Pokemon, and you could probably get a lot of people to come even if they just play casually and never even heard of competitive pokemon. Especially anywhere where there's a college; just put fliers up all over the place. It would also lead to growth of the competitive scene in general, which of course is a good thing.
Again, Smash doesn't have an online simulator that is better than the real games. It is not a fighting game. If you want to change your stats in the game without a PokeSav or AR, it takes about an hour per Pokemon. It can take about 24 hours if you don't have the berry to remove stat points and need to grow it (like I did when I made some last minute adjustments before VGC). Breeding good enough Pokemon can take hours upon hours and even then you aren't guaranteed the best unless you spend time understanding how to game the system.

Online simulators on the other hand let people do all this in a matter of seconds and get right to it. It's turn based so there's no lag issues.

Local tournaments are awesome, yes. Some of them do happen. A Smogon user is running one in the UK soon. Might even be this weekend. I'm looking into organizing one with another Smogonite in Vancouver.

However, the thing that also makes these events awesome is that it's once a year and a great chance for people who've been talking to each other all year just meet up all in one place. The regionals were smaller gatherings and then Nintendo flew a bunch of them to a central location to meet up in a larger group. Not everyone can afford to go to the FCs and 0Cs (or whatever the newer big tournaments are).

I tend to just stay in the tournament section and the midwest board/social board. Get to know the players in your region and know when/where the tournaments are. Maybe it's just that the Midwest has awesome people and your area doesn't? /shrug
lol I definitely know the players in my area. We have awesome players too. I just don't want to deal with the terrible ones or the site in general. Whereas on Smogon I can enter any forum and be able to talk, on SmashBoards every time I venture out of my regional zone I want to punch someone.

Actually, as someone who has been an active part of both communities, the Pokemon community needs to do everything in its power not to be like the Smash community. Although most of the Smash players I know from 05 / 06 are awesome people, a lot of them are the most obnoxious douchebags I've had the displeasure of meeting. I just stopped going to the events after a time.

Speak for yourself. GTA smash scene (even Brawl from what I can tell) is like a happy family :D

But I agree with what you're saying about Pokemon. It's online is 100% awesome, it definitely doesn't need to strive on locals, whereas Melee doesn't have online at all, and Brawl's is fucking terrible >_>

The quality of available pictures is very low, it's hard to make out the details of the new Pokemon. They are probably waiting for clearer pictures/official arts before making any fanarts.

The most annoying guy I had to deal with during a tournament was visiting from the GTA actually :lol

Man I am not a fan of the style of the newest pokemon revealed. They just dont seem as inspired, or rather they have too much going on in their design. None the less I am eagerly awaiting more info and pokemon. Here's hoping for a tauros evolution as long as it keeps its organic animal like style.
