I got a Shiny Tyrunt when soft resetting for an Adamant but reset as I didn't want a shiny Tyrunt.
Yes but they have a 12.5% chance of being female.

Love how you can trade on the go now. Hate the whole training mini games and punching bags but it looks like their not mandatory to keep going as I haven't been doing it. So far no problems not doing it. Wish I could cary over my heartgold team.

I wasted like 30 minutes getting it, mind you. Which is actually pretty good.
I got a Timid Bulbasaur on my first try. I guess the game was making amends for not giving me a Timid Pikachu after hours of farming them. I did get a Light Ball out of that ordeal, though.

its never set? u just have to reset a lot only the professors are male if i recall

Kinda mixed on it since I was able to steamroll through the Elite 4 with Pokemon I never needed to use in the main game. I guess it depends on style since my 1 Pokemon could cover most types very well so I never found the need to actually switch.

Okay, finally got a female starter from the prof.
Looks like the gender is set when you chooser the pokemon, since it was male when I baattled him but female when I chose it.
I opted for bulbasaur. Now I have a starter of each type (torchic, bulbasaur, froakie. :3)
I figure that bulbasaur will be the least common so the easiest to use as trade bait to get the other starters

We mean there are two times when the gender could potentially be decided. When you battle him (in which case you can see if it's male/female straight away, or just before you pick one of the starters?

So earlier I found Bagon in the wild and used all of my pokeballs, premier balls, and one dusk ball(useless). Didn't catch it.
Resignedly KO'd it and headed back to the Pokemon center. Ran into another Bagon and had to knock that one out too. Sadly enough.
Bought like 80 pokeballs and have been going around for the last hour trying to get Bagon again. Haven't seen one. Ugh.

just before you pick the starters is where they get set.
No they will not so you will have to pick them and then check, my advice is give it a nickname to check the gender first.
Press L+R and Select at the same time.

Can breed with any Pokemon in an Egg Group so they don't need a Female.
Makes breeding easier.

How did you get a Torchic?
Because they're sluts. They'll breed with any Pokemon (that can breed, no legendaries) and you'll get another of that Pokemon, whether it was male or female.

Heliolisk is the best Electric type ever. Thunderbolt + Surf = everything dead.

I think it's the same area of the game.
Can breed with any pokemon except legendaries (except phione and manaphy), baby pokemon, and other dittos.
How did I miss this.
