There isn't a chance in hell that Romney chooses McCain for the VP slot. Zilch.
It would be right up there with Palin and while Romney isn't the sharpest politician in the room, he isn't McCain desperate either.

Spending cuts worked in the UK.

"The National Institute for Economic and Social Research (NIESR) said the country's output could have been 239 billion pounds higher in total between 2011 and 2021, had deficit reduction been postponed by three years."

The irony is that even a piece like this suggests deficit reduction ought to be a goal. Deficit reduction shouldn't be "postponed." It should be entirely ignored. It's a meaningless accounting of the amount of currency the government is creating. And the only implications of that is the potential for inflation. So, keep an eye on that. Not some meaningless number called "the deficit."

Harry Reid as the bulldog. I didn't see that coming. He is the most mild-mannered guy. When he talks he sounds like he is quietly talking in library.

During the last Obama campaign Reid said that (his old friend) John McCain was so deranged from anger management problems that he would be dangerous as president. Harry Reid is from Nevada, yo. This is how they do it.

wikipedia said:
When Jack Gordon, LaToya Jackson's future agent and husband, offered Reid a $12,000 bribe to approve new games for casinos, Reid brought in the FBI to tape Gordon's bribery attempt and arrest him. After FBI agents interrupted the transaction as prearranged, Reid lost his temper and began choking Gordon, saying "You son of a bitch, you tried to bribe me!"

More seriously, Reid is a great choice for hatchetman for the Democrats, because he seems so disconnected from the Obama campaign. Expect to see Bill Clinton again too.

Only the Amish have a legitimate claim to not being part of the social contract.

Except they use our roads, electricity, phones, and sell their shit to our societal compact. They may have had a legitimate claim once upon a time but they've eroded that completely at this point. Great bowlers tho.

I probably asked this before, but I didn't ever get a response. Is there any legitimate reason that we have off shore tax shelters? I mean, does that benefit the U.S. in ANY way?

Isn't one of the Amish tenets to not use electricity?

Long Live Laffer?

After flirting for a brief moment with the outrageous notion that he could bring unemployment down to four percent, Romney’s taken to claiming that under his leadership unemployment will fall to about six percent in his first term, give or take.

That’s fairly consistent with the “Romney boom” his advisers are promising. But here’s the thing: it’s also basically what most economic models say predict will happen no matter what, given safe assumptions.

The business cycle will eventually work its magic.

This is a clever trick — and cynical, too. From the darkness of 8.3 percent unemployment, six percent sounds like a bright, sunny afternoon in America. What Romney and his advisers are doing is positioning him to claim credit for the rising of the sun.

You might say that’s just politics. And of course that’s true. But this isn’t simply a matter of drafting Romney’s legacy in advance of his potential presidency. It’s about linking everything Romney plans to do as president — cut taxes for the rich, roll back the social safety net — with a future of economic growth we know will come eventually.

So let’s say it happens. Let’s say Romney comes into office around the time growth shifts into higher gear. He cuts taxes a bunch. He begins the process of privatizing Medicare. He repeals Obamacare. Four years later, with unemployment down at six percent, he, naturally, credits his policies with ushering in the recovery.

Economists could cry foul all they want, but no number of Paul Krugman columns are going to weaken the gut-level intuitiveness of Romney’s claim. It’s the supply side movement’s greatest hope for a lasting revival.

There are certainly economic dangers on the horizon (Greece especially) but economists do expect things to settle down after the election. Whoever is in office will get the credit. If it happens under Romney, it will be seen as a complete rejection of big government liberalism regardless of the facts

This election will be monumental.

Which is why Obama needs to win. If what you say ends up being true, it could set this country back for decades.

Yeah, it's the same shit that the righties pulled after Reagan's terms, that Reagan's policies of low taxes and low spending gave us the greatest economic boom ever. Of course, the funny thing is that Carter had higher job growth.

Just some funny news.

Retired porn star Jenna Jameson supports Mitt Romney

Retired adult film actress Jenna Jameson voiced support for presumptive Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney at a strip club Thursday, CBS San Francisco reports:

"I'm very looking forward to a Republican being back in office," Jameson said while sipping champagne in a VIP room at Gold Club in the city's South of Market neighborhood. "When you're rich, you want a Republican in office."

Jameson was being interviewed "exclusively" by a CBS reporter who was "on assignment" at "an event marking the 8th anniversary" of the San Francisco-area strip club.

Jameson isn't the first in the business to praise Romney: Ron Jeremy recently called Romney "a good man" and "such an amazing father." In an interview with Yahoo News earlier this year, gay porn titan Michael Lucas said he would "of course" support the former Massachusetts governor.

It's almost like an Onion article.

It's all so weird, we're approaching immovable object/irresistible force territory here. I can't imagine why Romney would even try to run for President with a history of not paying any income tax. But I also can't imagine Reid would go so far out on a limb (with no one in the executive branch telling him to shut up) with no ground to stand on at all.

I honestly can't believe it could be close to true, and yet it seems like it has to be close enough that the political math still says it's better not to release the records.

I'm pretty sure that Reid is just goading him into releasing the forms because it is very obvious that his taxes were likely in the single digits. But Romney saying, I have paid taxes, see! 5%... won't look so good and people wouldn't really care that Reid said Romney paid nothing.

LOL. The country won't magically get better by Obama keeping taxes the same on basically everyone.

It's not so much that any policies are going to make the change, but at some point, probably in the next four years consumer debt will be back down to healthy levels, banks will loosen up, the fed will hopefully undue it's policies holding back growth, people will pay to replace the things breaking down, more people will get jobs, meaning they buy more things, meaning more jobs will generate. State tax revenues will stabilize and local bleeding will be staunched, It's important to remember that neither candidate has a real shot of controlling when and how this happens, but it probably will and the winner will get the credit.

Very true, but this happening whether Romney or Obama is in office won't set anybody back on face value alone.

House Republicans are officially worried that lawmakers and staffers will stray off the straight-and-narrow path at the GOP convention in Tampa this month.

With the advent of cell phones, anyone can be an opposition tracker, so members should be wary of doing anything questionable in public, Rep. Pete Sessions, the National Republican Congressional Committee chairman, warned fellow Republicans at a Capitol Hill meeting Wednesday.

"Let’s say you are going to have a cup of coffee. Perhaps, it’s a late night cup of coffee. Be careful," the Texas Republican said at a conference committee meeting, according to several sources who attended.

No, it won't, but the rich-poor gap in this country is well on its way to destroying us. I at least give the democrats a fighting shot at helping to close that gap. I give the GOP absolutely no shot, as they have no urge to do so.

I basically give the democrats credit enough for wanting to slow or stop that, like sticking their finger in the leak of a dike. Not really doing anything to fix it, but alright for now I guess. Republicans want to blow the whole thing to smithereens, though. I just hope the democrats can hold the line for long enough until the next generation gets more in power and will (hopefully) reverse things a bit quicker.

I must admit I'm not well read on Amish communities. I had the impression they cut themselves off.

Their buggies use our roads, a pain for traffic. Also see them at the mall (in PA they have their own stores), grocery shopping (usually buying cleaning products) and eating at resteraunts.

Absolutely true. There were Amish in the community of the college I went to. They shopped for materials at the local KMart, banked at the local banks, took their buggies through the McDonalds drive throughs and hung outside of the convenience stores. I even caught one buggy blasting music out of a radio as it went past my house. Modern Amish are frauds

Even the "good" job reports are shitty. What god has the world leaders decided to summon and for what? Only rational explanation for this needless global economic sacrifice.

1960's Space Race: Let's beat those Commies! Yeah, you dirty Godless bastards sent a monkey into orbit? We sent Men to the fucking MOON! GO NASA! USA! USA! USA!

Government investment proceeds to drive several generations of bleeding edge technology in material sciences, physics, astronomy, etc. giving us an almost insurmountable lead going into the Information Age. Inspires kids to aspire to high levels of education in science, math, engineering leading indirectly to the awesome technology that we have today by grooming a generation of engineers.

2012's HSR Race: HSR? In my country? AmtrakFAIL! Fucking bunch of Socialist Nazi Commies!

Government investment (perception wise) is inherently bad, always leads to failure, nothing good comes out of it, waste of taxpayer dollars, etc. Kids would rather watch American Idol and Jersey Shore than Mr. Wizard, Bill Nye the Science Guy, etc. (don't even have equivalent programming...MEGASADFACE for my daughter)

What have we become?

I'd say we've become a top 1st world country that's thinks higher of ourselves than we should. We need a powerful number 2 before we get kicking again.

It's why I hope China becomes that country within the next 5-10 years. We are just bored at the top.

That ain't gonna do shit. The righties will simply argue that we need to beat them dirty commies by doubling down on the free market.

Wow--just saw that the Michigan Supreme Court ended up giving voters the right to repeal the emergency manager law put in place by Governor Snyder. Under the plan, any town/school/etc determined to be in financial/dire straits by the state automatically was taken over by an "emergency manager."

Here's hoping voters repeal the law.
