If Obama was dancing around like G.W. Bush in that gif, the media would've buried Obama claimed that he was dancing on the graves of the police officers who were killed.

Can we not joke about Bill being a mac daddy?

The man is a serial philanderer and has probably caused Hillary more personal emotional pain than all of the conservative attacks against her combined. Don't forget that she dragged herself to his defense after the Flowers incident, and just 7 years later was again forced into the public spotlight because of a stupid blue dress. Making him out to be the king of pussy just paints that in an unnecessarily positive light when we should be demanding that all men respect all women. Like it or not, Bill Clinton's personal life represents a bygone age of male triumphancy that facilitates the domination of women in professional environments (...previously bygone, I guess, with Roger Ailes).

I am a very big fan of his, I think he is one of the most intelligent political figures alive, but that comes from detaching my feelings about his personal life from his professional (it's the same reason I can respect John Edwards as a politician).

CNN: Pence, Gingrich make the final cut in Trump's VP search, sources say

As anticipation builds for Donald Trump to name his vice presidential pick, two hopefuls -- Indiana Gov. Mike Pence and former House Speaker Newt Gingrich -- appear to be the front-runners, according to a person familiar with the deliberations.

Also still in the mix: New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie. Trump will likely make the announcement on Friday, the source said.

...

Some donors are pressuring Trump to pick Gingrich. A source close to Sheldon Adelson tells CNN that the casino magnate spoke to Trump and mentioned that "he liked Newt."

"Favoring is a more appropriate term," the source said of Adelson's conversation with Trump.

Wait, why would donors want Newt.

All Newt has done in the last 17 years is steal money. He's the original Ben Carson. Why would donors want a guy who just steals money? Calling bullshit on this idea.

Adelson has always loved Newt. He funded Newt's whole campaign last time around.

I suppose you could say Newt has a lot of political experience, but most of his experience is being a douche and stonewalling progress...actually that will probably play well with the Republican base...

But why would Adelson love him.

Newt Gingrich spend all of his last campaign stealing money from people and still has $4M in debt from the last campaign that he refuses to pay off.

Adelson is a one issue billionaire and that issue is Israel.

For some reason Newt convinced him he's the only person who understands how to protect Israel's interests.

Why would Adelson care about Newt stealing money? Adelson has infinite money. Would you refuse to hire an employee because he took your pen at the interview?

Adelson's fundraising connection to Newt was a big reason for why I took Newt as my pick. The fundraising issue has to be looming over Trump pretty heavily (especially if his finances don't quite match how he advertises them to the public), and Newt's connections could go a long way towards helping on this aspect of the campaign.

Politico: What's next for Bernie?

A few points of agreement have already been reached between the Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders camps as they look toward the general election.

The Vermont senator has locked down a major speaking slot at the Democratic National Convention later this month, according to people involved with the negotiations. And Clinton agreed to tack toward Sanders on her health care and education proposals last week.

...

The most immediate question for Sanders’ aides is the uncertainty surrounding the timing of his convention speech — Monday or Tuesday of convention week — leaving them looking at precedents of previous runner-up convention appearances (Clinton spoke on Tuesday eight years ago).

The campaigns are also negotiating which of Sanders’ surrogates will get speaking roles, a process that has already caused some tension because of the anger that animated the closing months of the primary contest. Accordingly, some of Sanders’ most prominent supporters — like former Ohio state Sen. Nina Turner, a Clinton backer-turned-harsh critic — are controversial figures within the former secretary of state’s political orbit.

...

Yet the people around Sanders remain divided over what shape his role should take, as many have long expected him to play the part of chief Trump attack dog and down-ballot cheerleader rather than traditional pro-Clinton surrogate. And since the senator himself has been singularly focused on winning concessions from Clinton on the platform in recent weeks, they have had little guidance on what he wants to do.

To some of his advisers, however, his likely role is obvious: campus ambassador, particularly in the battleground states where he won the primary.

Such an arrangement, which would let him speak to his most dedicated backers, is far from finalized, but it’s gaining support among Clinton’s close allies.

I'm puzzled by the idea of people who have been around Bernie and his campaign would expect him to take that role. He's shown little interest in any of it. A down-ballot cheerleader? Dude had to be pressured for ages to even find two or three down-ballot candidates to express support for!

It really is a disappointment Trump hasn't found a way to turn this into an actual reality tv show. Would have loved to see the elimination rounds for his veep picks.

Oprah\Cory Booker?

Old White Male Celebrity and Old White Male Republican against Black Female Celebrity and Younger Black Male Democrat? Oprah is really the only analogous celebrity I can think of on the Democrats side--someone who is very wealthy, with their own brand, and insane name recognition. The VP could also being someone else like Castro or another minority Congressmen.

What the hell happened to Princeton Election today. Big dip.

Ugh plz no Nina Turner w/ a speaking role at the convention. No Cornell West either >_<
I saw CW speak pre fame and post fame. The difference is striking. I think there was an article in the new republic a year or so ago by Michael Eric Dyson on the fall of West, and it is astounding. His brief brush with fame truly went to his head.

Nomination of Carla Hayden to Library of Congress is stuck in Senate
It seems even a job as uncontroversial as librarian of Congress isn’t immune to congressional infighting.

Librarian of Congress nominee Carla Hayden — the chief executive of the Baltimore public library — breezed through a Senate committee hearing in April, and, within weeks, the committee voted unanimously to recommend that the Senate approve her nomination to be the 14th librarian of Congress.

“The nominee, in my opinion, brings a wealth of experience to the position and it is my hope that this experience will lead the Library of Congress in a way that . . . meets the demands of the 21st century,” Senate Rules Committee Chairman Roy Blunt (R-Mo.) said of Hayden, who would be the first woman and the first African American to lead the agency.

But not all Republicans agree, and as a result Hayden’s nomination has been held up. There has been no public explanation for the five-week delay, although privately some conservatives have been critical of the positions Hayden took as head of the American Library Association, including her opposition to a federal law requiring libraries to install Internet filters to block pornography. Others decry her lack of academic heft, saying the position is a scholarly one.

The Republican squabble is frustrating Hayden’s supporters.

“It’s confounding that such a highly qualified person who has been unanimously endorsed by the Rules Committee is languishing on the floor,” said Sen. Charles E. Schumer (D-N.Y.). “The librarian has an important role to play, and we ought to confirm Carla Hayden as soon as possible.”
While lawmakers stay mum, conservative bloggers have been vocal. Some have argued for another scholar to be appointed to replace James H. Billington, an author and former professor who retired in September after 28 years in the position. Others suggest that President Obama is more interested in Hayden’s background than her résumé and that her selection is evidence of a quota system.

Heritage Foundation fellow Hans von Spakovsky, who calls Hayden a radical who “fought for pornography to be available in libraries,” has written several articles supporting the idea that the post should go to a first-rank scholar or historian. (“The library’s enormous staff (3,244) already numbers countless credentialed librarians — the institution is hardly in need of another,” he wrote.)

“We’ve had these great historians and scholars. It’s the country’s chief cultural institution,” von Spakovsky said Tuesday. “There has been this tradition and I think it’s important to keep.”
Hayden, 63, is credited with modernizing the Enoch Pratt Free Library in Baltimore, where she has overseen a $112 million renovation of its central branch and the opening of the first new branch in 35 years. She was praised for keeping the library open during the community protests over the death of Freddie Gray while in police custody. She earned a PhD from the University of Chicago and has served on the National Museum and Library Services Board since 2010.

She told the Senate committee that upgrading the library’s technology would be a top priority, especially concerning its Copyright Office, which has been plagued with problems. Government investigators last year criticized the library for outdated and inefficient technology practices that wasted millions in taxpayer dollars.
She would be both the first woman and the first African-American to hold the position. Washington Post wrote a few articles in 2015 when Billington announced he'd be retiring detailing the ways he'd neglected his position, used it to hobnob with rich people, failed to keep the Library moving into the digital age, let online systems languish, etc. Departments within the Library were trying to separate themselves because his inaction was holding back their progress. They even had on-the-record quotes from Library staffers celebrating the coming end of his tenure. Leave it to certain conservatives to find him a great model, while opposing the woman coming off revitalizing and modernizing the Baltimore library system.

And how the fuck are anonymous holds still a thing? How does anyone find that even remotely acceptable?

I'm always surprised that Ruth Bader Ginsburg didn't resign from the court a year or two ago in order to assure Obama could pick her successor. Does anyone know why? Just loves the work? Or do people think the GOP would have just blocked her successor for multiple years if they had to?

At this point it doesn't look like a completely bad decision I guess. She got to weigh in on some important stuff, and she's pretty much guaranteed someone non-crazy as her replacement (I hope...).

RBJ LOVES being a SC Justice.

To recap the controversy, Ginsburg’s campaign began with a light jab at Trump in a Thursday interview, in which the justice admitted she didn’t “want to think about” the possibility of a Trump presidency. Then, on Friday, Ginsburg told the New York Times’ Adam Liptak, “I can’t imagine what this place would be—I can’t imagine what the country would be—with Donald Trump as our president.” Days after her Times interview, Ginsburg told CNN’s Joan Biskupic that Trump is a “faker” with “no consistency” and she criticized his refusal to release his tax returns. “He really has an ego,” she said (correctly and understatedly).

Damn. I wonder what she was thinking doing this.

Wow at the current librarian. 85, making 180k a year and wasting tens of millions of dollars. It seems he's done some good things in his almost 30 year tenure, but come on he should have retired years and years ago.
Yeah, it sounds like he started out well enough, but for the second half or so of his tenure he just didn't give a shit.

Last year Congress passed a bill that makes the position a 10 year term, without term limits. Basically, Billington was ending his tenure under such bad conditions that everyone agreed to axe the lifetime appointment.

NYTimes ran a short editorial in early 2015 running down some of the criticisms of him:
Mr. Billington, a respected scholar who has run the library for 28 years, has ignored calls first heard 20 years ago that he hire a chief information officer as required by law, according to a new, yearlong investigation by the Government Accountability Office. “The library does not have the leadership needed to address these I.T. management weaknesses,” the report concluded in urging Mr. Billington to “expeditiously hire” a permanent chief with the power to get a grip on the library’s assorted computer systems.

Another new study looked at the library’s other mission, running the United States Copyright Office, and found similar mismanagement. The office, so crucial to modern business, was found to need considerable technology upgrades and investment to meet the standards of the digital world.

Both reports cited weaknesses in computer planning, security and inventory procedures. In less than three years, there have been five acting information officers, who, according to investigators, never had full authority to manage the library’s systems.

The library first said it had 30 systems, but that was finally revised to 70 in the main report. Similarly, the library said it had 18,000 personal computers, but investigators found fewer than 6,500. “They don’t know what they spend, they don’t know what they have,” Joel Willemssen, the author of the report, told The Washington Post.
Makes me so fucking angry when the Senate won't give appointees votes. You don't like someone? Make your case and vote no. This kind of obstruction should at best be reserved for extreme cases, not a routine.

Surprised no one made a thread about this.

It was posted like 2-3 pages ago and everyone collectively rolled their eyes and sighed. If it turned into a thread it would just be reinforcing what everyone already thinks of Trump--an entitled white businessman who was given literally every opportunity in life thinks he earned what he has. His response is a typical Republican response. It ropes in that idea of "personal responsibility" that Republicans use to mask their thinly veiled racism, and also hints that the wealthy job creators are attacked for their success, a Republican mainstay for decades now.

This has to be one of the most tone-deaf things I've ever read.

Like, I'm not exaggerating.

The JMC poll is 8% Hispanic

In Florida, lmao.

OMG this poll is amazing. Trump is also up 13% with hispanics, lmao.

Obama won hispanics in Florida 60-40 but somehow Trump reversed that. lmao.

No age breakdown.

Republicans aren't unskewing polls, anymore. They're just making bullshit polls up that don't need unskewing.

8% hispanic is a crime. I'm sorry, but that can be thrown out point blank. These aren't outliers, these are intentional scams.

Yeah... he's a gigantic piece of shit but she definitely made a mistake. She needs to at least appear impartial and unbiased.

Saying this as a huge fan of her.

Eh, I can see why she did it. Trump is not your average Republican candidate. He's a danger to the country.

I think (or hope anyways), that as much as we'd be set back, we'd survive due to sheer inertia, but he's the scariest major party nominee in my admittedly short lifetime.

Robot Wars is back soon, hell yes!

Best thing the BBC have ever produced, I swear to god.
Not in a world where Sherlock exists..

If you don't like Robot Wars you have worse taste than Adam :p

So... any sign of that RNC speaker list?
I just assume Chichikov hates everything.

except People vs O.J Simpson and I think Better Call Saul. Those are the only two things I remember him saying that he likes. Chichikov, since OJ ended and BCS ended, what else do you like to see watch?

Also that list.. Never gon get it, never gonna get it.
