Even the things you do mention are minimized. X1X is a fantastic console, the most powerful and smartly engineered console ever. To have it do 4k 60 fps on ANY game is a testament to the hardware and the developers given the state of it's CPU. Gamepass is the most valuable service in gaming...ever. These are no small feats.

Fable was supposed to come out this gen. Got cancelled and was passed on to Playground and now I'm supposed to wait a minimum of two more years before I get to play it. Ninja Theory was a studio almost about to be canned if not for the success of Hellblade. it was basically an indie studio. It's a very nice acquisition but nothing major like getting Warner Bros.

X1X did what it was supposed to do. Launched a year later and $100 more. It didn't even do what was marketed for it which was true 4k uncompressed pixels on every game what have you market speak. what was amazing about it was the size, form factor and the quietness of it. Gamepass is the single unequivocal good thing that came out of Spencer's reign. Look, I am a fan of physical media so maybe I'm not giving enough credit for GP but it's one of the reasons why I may not praise it to high heavens. I don't want consoles to turn into Steam 2.0

I know everybody feels different but that's my reasons why I'm not satisfied with Phil. If everything he does satisfy everybody else then that's fine and I believe them. Not saying that everything he did was bad though. The amount of things that Sony should follow Phil on is a lot. I just felt like it wasn't enough. Maybe I'm too demanding but it's because I want them to do better. I spent money on their console and their ecosystem so I think it's my right to make them do better.

They were about to be canned...and they made Hellblade. Nuff said on that.

I don't ever remember Xbox saying the 1X was going to be 4K on EVERY game. They did say there would be many enhancements and did manage to hit Native 4k on MANY games. Even on the games that didn't hit 4k there were other enhancements such as the 4k assets. Shadow of War is one of the best examples of this. Then on others they provided the choice of different modes. You could do a resolution mode for 4k, or a framerate mode and an assets mode in many of the games they enhanced soon after launch.

I can understand the physical media preference, but if you look at gamepass objectively, just from a financial perspective, no one can deny it's value.

Fable Legends was cancelled and was not anywhere near what Playground Games is trying to do with the franchise. I don't subscribe to this whole handing off of a failed project narrative you're pushing because these are two different games, made by two different studios...in 2 completely different genres. I see that assessment as unfair and opportunistic again to minimize the effort or accomplishment.

Of course. It's really good and I don't deny it. Anybody who says it's bad probably hasn't subscribed to it yet.
 
He's says a lot and comes across as a politician constantly campaigning. He inherited a mess and honestly I have a hard time thinking of any monumental thing he has accomplished that he can stamp his name on. Feels like Xbox has been spinning its wheels for years throwing as much shit at the wall to see what sticks.

well, phil spencer must be some kind of wizard if without a strategy he managed two times in a row to make the most powerful console, edging out the market leader, who up to the point that phil took over was riding sky-high on that "most powerful" "true 1080p" horse, right?

He inherited a mess and has done good to buy up some studios and introduce game pass. The next phase is to produce some really great games and we'll see if MS can do that next gen. I think he's done ok. Hasn't set the world alight but he has steadied the ship and put them in a good position.
 
He's provided nothing but empty promises; he always says that upcoming Xbox games and presentations of Xbox games will be great, but they always wind up being disappointing. At least Don Mattrick was unintentionally funny.

Well I'm talking about that potentially exciting slate of new projects, if half of them turn out well then the Xobox will be a compelling product for me, don't care about the business side I ain't a shareholder in Microsft

For the first time in years they have tons of different projects,building the apparatus to produce high end First party games takes years, he has finally getting Jo's ducks in a row

Thus I say "time will tell"

Let's see what these games are like in the next few years, looks promising to me

It's also possible that Nadella and the shareholders don't care about Xbox as much as the fans think they do.

I don't know what you guys think when you say "learn the ropes", but I think he is pioneering.
like opening up all first party games to pc and streaming, growing substantialy console first party and at the same time offering the total of them for a subscription with gamepass.
doesn't look to me like a traditional way of managing a console business.

and these all combined with powerful console h/w as I already wrote above.
 
Since in all actuality he is nothing but a circus barker 10-10. As for the studios he invested, maybe 6 out of 10. Tell what you would rather have?
 
Very satisfied.

- Xbox Series X / Series S
- Game Pass / Game Pass Ultimate
- Acquired 7 development studios and started up 2 development studios in the last two years
- Bringing back some older IP's such as Fable and possibly Perfect Dark
- Has expanded all the studios with money, time, resources and personnel
- Has already given me more exclusives that im interested in playing between launch and 2023 than the entire Xbox One generation's entirety
- Is making performance and 60FPS a priority and hopefully, the standard for years and generations to come
- Excellent controller with no gimmicks or an oversized button called a touchpad (UGH)

So yeah, im extremely satisfied. Xbox Series X will blow away Xbox One in probably 1/3rd of the time. Can't fucking wait until November!!!

Yeah their shows are more often disappointing for me than not and part of it for me is insiders, Xbox marketing and fake insider hype before the show
 
Really satisfied. He brought great games to PC. Those Xbox Game Studios releases were among my most played games these last 7 years:

Forza Motorsport 7
Killer Instinct
Forza Horizon 3
Forza Horizon 4
Sunset Overdrive
Recore

And this time he is making the right moves. Xbox games are selling like crazy on Steam. He just needs a couple of new single player quality releases and that's it.
 
As an Xbox OG, X360, PS4 gamer, I was confident that all the good words about Phil would result in this upcoming gen of Xbox being notable. Instead it's far lass enticing than any gen preceding it.

The service strategies, lack of next gen push, platform agnostic support, focus on touch screen controls. It's obvious where it's heading, and it doesn't suit the enthusiast in me.

Free gold is the last hope for sparking an iota of enthusiasm at this point.

Yap, Jim Ryan and the new SCEA marketing head, both have an off-putting zen. Too business-like with little desire for interaction with the core audience.

The new SIE feels in contrast with the new Xbox.
Phil seems to turn Xbox around that the feelings we get is closer to that of SIE handling of PS4. Games division run by gamers

All it takes for you to make the most powerful console is to ask your engineers. It's a matter of how much you are willing to charge or subside it (in the case of the One X $100 more and one year late to market. just to sell less than the competition and be discontinued in less than 3 years).

The fact that you think hardware is that important show you don't know what you are talking about.

Pretty much all Sony execs had that same vibe when the PS4 released, turns out business guys are good at business.

Wearing some game related t-shirts and telling people what they want to hear while not delivering on it is pretty easy.

What is high resolution and high performance? Because in this one department, is it pretty much "quantum leap" compare to older GPU's (whole RTX2XXX line is)

I don't think Microsoft game division is run by gamers. Phil is a pure sales guy. He gives shit about games.

If making the most powerful hardware is so trivial and non-important,
then why Cerny has gone into that lengthy speech telling people like you how he can compensate with variable clocks and rising tides?
And why sony still has not done a hardware stripdown?

You see, of course you are entitled to your opinion, but its just that: your opinion.

now, some facts:

-xbone x is a great mid-gen machine that managed exactly what it was supposed to do: play this generation games at -or very near- 4k resolution.
its build quality alone was worth much more than the $100 difference with ps4pro, let alone the performance.
Anybody who has both machines can attest to that.

-Each new generation is all about more decent hardware so that better framerates, better and new graphics techniques and overall better and more complex games can arise.
Like it or not, its called progress, and its been like this since probably before you were even born.

-Feel free to believe what you want, but next time you quote me and say something stupid like "you dont know what you are talking about", its ignore list for you
 
I had the OG Xbox way back in the day, lost interest in the brand during the 360's twilight years, and I haven't seen anything that would bring me back.

Quite the opposite in fact. The same old tired franchises and empty promises as usual. The future for Xbox seems grim.

Why should this guy keep getting the benefit of the doubt again?
 
I think that Phil has done a solid job. He needs to clean house at 343i on the management side though, as each time the Xbox brand starts to gain some traction, 343i just drags everything back down. First there was the disastrous and buggy Halo MCC launch and then the worst Halo campaign ever in Halo 5. People like to hype up the multiplayer in Halo 5, but outside of 4v4, the multiplayer was pretty bleak. Then there was the underwhelming Halo Infinite gameplay reveal last month which ruined what was otherwise a solid show.
