Rumor: Nintendo Switch 2 Joy-Con Controller C Button Will Allow System to Connect to the Original Switch to Use as Second Screen

Why? The Switch already has a screen. And the Switch 2 can play Switch games. I see literally zero use for this.

Edit: Ok, it's the reverse, but still I don't see why. Multiplayer I guess?

I can't get over how stupid this is.

If they wanted to do this, why would they bother developing and implementing a system that requires people to hold onto an essentially obsolete console (with BC on 2 why keep 1)?

A far simpler way would be to allow the Switch 2 to connect to its dock for TV output while allowing the unit itself to be used as the Wii U controller.

Neither would happen of course, it would be wasted R&D on an optional feature that would fall out of use quickly and probably be ignored by most owners anyway - and that's if they could get it working.

So you can use your switch 2 to play on your tv or handheld then you can use your switch to play your switch 2 games while you are connected to our switch 2 but you need both systems. Ok

So many "leaks" now that are BS. This is what i theorized in a thread i made back in December 2024 or early 2025. I was of course laughed at. That some how it would have connectivity to switch as a controller.

Similar to Wii U or Project Cafe with the GameCube controller with a small screen in the middle.

They'll also offer peripheral to mount your original Switch to the Switch 2 and fold it together in a clamshell design, turning it into a 3DS for backwards compatibility. Nice move Nintendo.

I don't see it happening tbh, old Switches will be sold, become hand-me-downs to younger siblings and such.
I think the button is for a social hub thing.

Nintendo just figured out a way to sell the worst extra controller on the market for $300 a pop. And increase current console sales after the reveal of a new console?

Those diabolical bastards.

It's kinda funny we might get DS games but it will be completely impractical to play them without a TV, basically making a Wii U game where you need to constantly look up and down. Most DS games would tolerate this better than Starfox Zero did, but some even have a seamless transition between the two screens so it's a real mixed bag.

Castlevania DS collection should have waited for this. Get the full screen on TV and move the map to the controller. Oh well.

They would implement a hardware feature direclty on a controller to rely to an old device they will soon discontinue ? Doesn't make any sense

This sounds like such a Nintendo thing to do. It also explains why Wind Waker HD and Twilight Princess HD haven't been released for the Switch. Amazing if true

that dosnt make any fucking sense, i ll never get mental gymnastic to excuse Nintendo from their shit, the only thing that explain why we dont have TP or TWW on switch is Nintendo laziness or greed.

I agree with you for the most part, but how could Nintendo not releasing a Switch version of those games be chalked up to greed?

Yeah I'm really not following the logic that a separate button is required for those ports???

I may be naive but are people really so gullible that they believe the Switch had the tech built into it 8 years ago to be able to handle this specific scenario now? I call BS on this. Switch 2 may be capable of doing this, but the Switch itself is not capable of reliably receiving a wireless video signal like this like the Wii U gamepad was.

Yes, I verified it from my uncle who works for a paper company which sells toilet paper to a cleaning lady who sometimes cleans at Nintendo HQ!

There will also be a dual screen handheld "dock" where you can put Switch 2 and Switch 1 to play 3DS games!

This sounds… fairly uninteresting and cumbersome. I want to sit on the couch and hold a controller and play a game on the TV. I also don't want to have to use my 8 year old OG launch Switch to control my shiny new Switch 2. I plan to give it to my nephew and never use it again once I have my Switch 2. After I've logged out and reset to factory. Take allll my games with me.

Because Switch 2 is descending on a large pool of people who already own 150m Switch 1 systems, and they committed games for it into next year already.

It's not something to rely upon, it's an optional/useful feature. Game Boy Advance connected to Gamecube to add a screen despite that it had come out earlier.

Just thinking out loud, not a prediction or anything. But this could allow Nintendo to triple dip on Wii U games. LOL

Like Pikmin 3 again that plays exactly the same as on Switch, but if you have an extra console you can use it as the map like on Wii U.

Yes but when Switch 2 games will be still out in 2032, you can't really expect people still having their Switch from 2017.

And for the GBA/Game Cube, they were both in the same generation

If Nintendo has some kind of problem because of mass success of the feature they can just enable the same thing for the built up base of Switch 2 systems any time.

It's inconclusive that you can't do that day one (aside that the whole rumor may be false)

You can do that. This isn't a mandatory feature, it's optional.

I mean, I don't buy this rumor at all, but, hypothetically, the feature wouldn't be dependent on Switch 1. It could also work (and work better thanks to dedicated streaming hardware) with a second Switch 2, Switch 2 Lite, or even their next-nextgen handheld or hybrid. *shrug*

Could be useful, and it'd be an incentive for people not to flood the market with second hand switches.
Not a big enough deal for me not sell my current switch to buy for the new one though.

I think it's C for Cast allowing you to play on your TV without docking the console.

That'd be pretty cool. Specially if the screen is the used sort of like a WiiU gamepad.

Yes, for Nintendo Switch is sort of an evolution of all their previous consoles. Like the separate controllers, handheld, hybrid, etc.

So it makes sense Switch 2 will continue the idea of WiiU. I also think they had patents for stuff in the dock.

It was actually great for party games, allowing asymmetrical gameplay.

Nintendo Land was an absolute blast with my family and friends.

This poor game. Doomed to both early disc rot and early console memory rot. It's basically impossible to port for the same reasons they wouldn't want to (a minigame for every gamepad feature tech demo)

Yeah for me it is definitly nonsense.

But I guess the PS4 that can do remote play for PS5 would go against my own argument
