Polygon: Xbox Scorpio will be a ~6 TFLOP system (v PS4K's 4.14), unveil soon, Fall 17

2:1 market share vs last gen, plus 180 of almost every policy that made xbox the Xbox, plus exclusives like Tomb Raider and Halo5 performing worse than any generation before it tends to paint that 'failed' console light around the Xbone.

It's not true of course, but perceptions and all that.

Also doesn't help that MS refuse to reveal sales numbers for the first time ever. MAU's are practically a meme by now. They could add a single user to the list and still claim 'highest MAU count in Xbox history!!1!1!' Which is just silly.

None of those things make the Xbox One a failed product, I feel like people are trying really hard in here to make it a fact though.

Does SFV performing worse then any other generation make the PS4 a failure? Nope.

What the hell is going on in here? Any new news or just people just talking warz?

A lot of non Xbox owners giving us their best Sharknado 5 level of acting skills pretend-concerning over The Xbox brand. This thread will cannibalize itself eventually and we can move on to the E3 threads.

Games won't magically upscale. Would require a patch from dev.

The point of dynamic scaling is that it drops resolution when it detects performance is getting bad. With better hardware that should happen less and they'll likely maintain 1080p. Same with Neo.

You're right that without a patch it won't magically be 4K though. And when games set a static resolution, that would also require a patch.

Please name names. I really hate wondering if people are talking about me or not in vague terms.

It will sell and probably have better sales than XB1 having alone in market, but you're crazy if you think it will give Xbox the same popularity of the 360 days. Part of the reasons of 360 popularity was Sony fucking up with PS3 in a major way, so unless you get real "lucky" and Sony fucked it up again, these old days are not gonna repeat.

And part of the reason why it sold was because it was on the market for, what, 8 years. Those days are done for consoles. Can the brand be as popular again, of course. Will MS release another console that sells 80M by itself. No, by the mere fact of generations of iterations are going to be a thing.

Oh I agree it doesn't make it a 'failed'' product, just perceptions like I said. Pretending like they are not underperforming and truly the underdog is also silly though.

Re SFV tho, I think it's a bad comparison? Tomb Raider and Halo 5 were good, completed games. SFV was not. Their reasons for underperforming were obvious and completely different.

What days are gone? Xbox is finished. It will never sell even though X1 has sold 20M.

Is this a console warz thing?

WTF are you talking about? I think you are too invested in the war. I am not saying anything of the sort. The fact you quickly get so defensive speaks volumes, the days of xbox being as popular as 360 days are gone, I mean it sold 50 mill in the US,

A lot of non Xbox owners giving us their best Sharknado 5 level of acting skills pretend-concerning over The Xbox brand. This thread will cannibalize itself eventually and we can move on to the E3 threads.

You're seeing what you want to see.

"Much"? Well good fucking luck! MS have been trying to do that since day one, and they have doing a shit ton of changes for that exact reason and yet they're not succeeding.

This, if it were that easy MS would have done it ages ago, we are what 15 years in now of MS in the console market.

What days are gone? Xbox is finished. It will never sell even though X1 has sold 20M.

Is this a console warz thing?
Pretty much

Apparently you can't have two successful products on market one has to fail by some logic. Even though last gen all three console makers were successful selling north of 80 million each. I just hope the Scorpio is a lot more powerful then rumored if coming out late 2017. Until then I'll be upgrading to Neo.

What advancements do you guys think Scorpio could introduce aside from the specs specifically?

I think we're going to have more connectivity between devices with the Scorpio through Cortana. Granted I think that could be done with Xbox One but still...other than VR/AR, I don't think the Scorpio or any console is going to give us more than power.

I do think that AI (in games, not Cortana) will use the cloud more (depending on the game) and we'll have more enemies on a screen that are smart. So more "warlike" feelings in FPS games.

Not a single person in this thread said this, if they did please post examples, i'll wait.

Stop it. It's just so blatant at this point. You're literally just stoking the preteen console war flames. Let this thread go back to genuine discussion by people who actually care.

This is a discussion about the console market and the market realities.....you are seeing what you want to see. Maybe you should stop back seat modding and stop attacking people? Lots of irony in your post when you are in fact going off topic on the defensive.

lol chill bro. Jokes and all that. At least I hope everyone realizes 10tf Scorpio is a joke?

INFINITE TF POWER OF THE CLOUD

you are seeing what you want to see.

Trust me. I am definitely seeing a lot of what I don't want to see.

There may have like 30 pages back been a genuine discussion of the market, but that train kept the tracks. And throwing around the "You're being defensive" line in every post you make is silly. Stop being so silly.

For the players like me who have a 1080p TV screen and don't plan to change it anytime soon, I don't see much interest in choosing the Scorpio over the Neo. Both should easily reach 1080p at 60 fps, so what would the additional power be used for?

Besides, the biggest factor in choosing a console is the exclusives, but since it seems like they'll also be alaivable on my PC, that mean one less incentive to sway me.

I don't know what the market share of 4k TV screens will be like when both consoles are released, but the higher production cost of the Scorpio, coupled with supposed one year late start, sound like Sony doesn't need to be worried.

No, not really. PS and XBox are fighting for the same audience, and this audience is shrinking (or at best case scenario not increasing). So unless PS popularity decrease significantly, XBox is never gonna gain that 360 popularity ever again.

So this thread is for discussing the console market and the market realities?

Funny, I could have swore the title said 'Polygon: Xbox Scorpio will be a ~6 TFLOP system (v PS4K's 4.14), unveil soon, Fall 17'

Forbes: Will The Xbox 'Scorpio' Be The 'Xbox One Two,' Or Something Totally Different?

Just as the PS4 has its “Neo,” so does Microsoft have its “Scorpio.” We’ve been hearing reports of Sony’s upgraded console for weeks now, but the new Xbox has only just starting coming into focus through a few independent reports. We’re not getting the thing until 2017, the reports say, but what comes next is a 4K capable system approximately four times as powerful as the Xbox One, with Oculus rift compatibility (probably gen 2 by that point) to boot. It’s a little early for a new console, but Microsoft has been on the back foot with the Xbox One ever since its announcement, and it might be time for, if not a left turn, at least something of a veer. So we wonder: is this an Xbox Two that Microsoft is talking about, or something else?

Here’s something we know: Phil Spencer doesn’t like the idea of an “Xbox 1.5,” which sounds an awful lot like what Sony is rumored to be doing with the Neo. That means that whatever Microsoft is imagining is likely enough of a generational leap that it will not be considered an Xbox One, and that raises some questions about forward compatibility for all those people that bought Xbox Ones. It’s worth noting that the Xbox One was designed under a very different Microsoft, and doesn’t necessarily reflect Satya Nadella and Phil Spencer’s plans for the brand. We know that they’re trying to better incorporate all Windows 10 devices into a single ecosystem, and that whatever happens with Xbox next will fit into this plan.

I have a suspicion that the Xbox “Scorpio” is not quite the next Xbox One, or even designed to replace the Xbox One. 2017 is too soon for that, anyway. I get the feeling that the new machine will stand alongside the Xbox One as Microsoft’s current console continues to drop in form factor and price: off the shelf components have a way of getting much cheaper, and the Xbox One has a deal of life left in it. If Microsoft can get it down to $199, or even lower, it can launch this new machine as the high-end, VR capable device.

The discussion shifted I just joined in it, it's how discussions work. New hardware inevitably also means talks on it's impact on the market, let's not be naive.

Uhm...what makes you think gaming is shrinking? It's a small market (but profitable) but it's not shrinking.

Or it's more likely we see the same thing we saw last gen. Years into the generation we start seeing more and more crossover with multi console owners. Except instead of Xbox owners picking up an PS3 we see PlayStation owners picking up an Xbox.

Because at the end of the day for most the desire to play good games wins out over brand slavery.

The discussion shifted. lol

You've been posting the same kind of comments for days ..... unfortunately it seems to be you who is 'shifting' a lot of the discussion in this thread.

No! This thread is supposed to be filled with drive by compliments on the hardware, not discussion!

Has nothing at all to do with success, in fact Microsoft maintained the COD license for a larger part of this generation then Sony. Microsoft could have kept the partnership if they wanted to but they didn't.

FordGTGuy I love you but cmon dude. read this back to yourself

Trust me. I am definitely seeing a lot of what I don't want to see.
Don't worry it's not your eyes, they seem fine to me.

Or maybe both of us are seeing what we "want" to see... who knows at this point!

Kin is just concern trolling and console warring, just ignore him & he'll get bored and stop posting here.

Microsoft can't wait until 2017. They would be inclined to rush the product to market. Who will buy an XBone from now until holiday 2017? It will be a minimal

Sony would be first to market, have a whole year to gain a larger lead and build 'next-next-gen' install base.

What would the XBscorpio offer over NEO? more TFlops? that would only matter for Microsoft exclusives, which IMO is the biggest problem for Microsoft. All other games, just as it is now, will be optimized to the lowest common denominator. ( Still hope Sony bumps up their clock speeds, possibly getting a new cpu if it doesn't cause too many problems )

So mp games today on PS4 also run at same resolution as X1 counterpart? This is really nonsense, devs will take advantage of power where available.

lol... yea, it had absolutely nothing at all to do with Microsoft also making a bunch of good moves on their end. Things like GTA no longer releasing first and having months worth of exclusivity to Playstation consoles had absolutely nothing at all to do with anything. It wasn't a simple case of Sony fucking up. Microsoft also got a lot of things right on their end also. hell, I would have never bought an Xbox 360 if not for their decision to partner with Sakaguchi and Mistwalker to make Blue Dragon and Lost Odyssey.

Microsoft made some damn excellent decisions also. I had previously only ever owned Nintendo, Sega and Playstation consoles prior to Microsoft making that move. I was one of those people who were content to get specific xbox titles on PC until Blue Dragon and Lost Odyssey happened on Xbox 360. And then I was lining up at Best Buy overnight to get my hands on one. What many people fail to realize is that games like Blue Dragon and Lost Odyssey need not light up the world in terms of sales, even though I thought they did pretty good. Their core purpose, in my view, should have always been to try and get gamers who would otherwise likely not have picked up your system to give it a chance. If it manages to do that in the thousands, which I absolutely believe both games succeeded in doing in the tens of thousands, and potentially even in the hundreds of thousands, then the investment was absolutely worth it.

Either way, you have in some form expanded the overall diversity of your userbase, a userbase that you can now try and sell on your existing go to franchises, such as Halo, Forza etc. I wasn't a Halo or Xbox fan until Blue Dragon and Lost Odyssey made me buy an Xbox 360. Now I'm at a point where I can never see myself wanting to miss out on another major Halo FPS (or third person title if they ever make one) release ever again. I'm in love with the franchise. I've bought the books, watched the dvds and short series, searched the internet to learn more about the fiction, and just generally participated in the Halo universe in as many ways as I could. All that happened because of a single wise decision by Microsoft: They got Hironobu Sakaguchi, my favorite game developer of all time to build two Japanese Style Role Playing Games (historically my favorite kind of game) for the Xbox 360.

Uhm...what makes you think gaming is shrinking? It's a small market (but profitable) but it's not shrinking.

The dedicated hardware market is definitely shrinking. And it's already shrunk.

Most predictions top the PS4 at 100 lifetime and XB1 at 40-45 lifetime. Thats already a decrease from 360+PS3 alone, not even including the beastly Wii.

Ok, I can agree that the dedicated console market is shrinking, but not gaming itself. That's what I thought Chobel was trying to say. Thanks for the clarification.

Shorter gen though. They're outpacing last gen LTD right now.

Yea, gaming as a whole seems to be largely fine from what I can tell (if we encapsulate everything including mobile). But Sony, MS and even Nintendo are just trying to take certain pieces and those ones have shrunk considerably.

OT: Nintendo probably took the hardest fall since they're console presence all but evaporated and the handheld market is a shell of its former self.

lolololol, that's not what happened at all. The multi console owners represent the minority. And it's even worse this time around because in both PS4 and XB1 multiplayer is paywalled, and people don't like to pay for two subs.

And PS3 was actually selling better than 360 every year (maybe not 2010), and that's the reason they were tied, not because 360 owners started suddenly adopting PS3.

lol... yea, it had absolutely nothing at all to do with Microsoft also making a bunch of good moves on their end. Damn! If only I said there was other reasons... Wait I did, right in this sentence "Part of the reasons".
