I got into it this Summer and I've been listening to it again and I'm re-slain. It kind of reminds of Ray Of Light. It got some very dreamy and folky qualities to it.

Yesss arte. This album is amazing. The song "Ghosts" is fantastic, too.

Rihanna is clearly the #1 right now. I have oft professed in this topic that she is the best one doing it in the pop game atm. Taylor Swift is too swagless and white for my tastes; Lorde has no catalogue and I find her big hit subtly condescending from a racial perspective, Gaga is in the bushes, Katy Perry can't dance and is too corny, Bey/Britney/Xtina are all in the hospice, and Miley Cyrus is a walking breathing joke.

"Dangerously in Love" is the best song that Beyonce has ever put out. Did I lie? Have any of the other girls put out an song that has been so life-giving? Rihanna came close with Loveeeeee Song, but Dangerously in Love shits on it. My god.

On the other hand, Lorde's critiques of commercialism unsurprisingly end up being things rich black men like to spend (or claim to like to spend their money on). Why is that? Is it just because she listens to rap music, and blames it all for music's commercialism? Why is she laying the onus of excess at their feet?

...so, the only difference you're highlighting is that Lorde's racial condescension manages to at least be subtle, whereas yours isn't? If T-Swift isn't for you, why didn't you just say that? Was her race that important to isolate?

While I do find the Lorde hypocritical and while she does say some really obnoxious things, I just remind myself she's sixteen. Not exactly a fount of wisdom at that age. If she's still saying this shit when she's 25 then I'll truly be annoyed.

She's actually from a district near my cousins in New Zealand, interestingly enough. Her area and school are quite wealthy, but I don't hold that against her. It's not surprising that someone from a wealthy background shuns materialism, hypocrisy aside. If you grow up in affluence, there are plenty of reasons as to why you'd shun aspects of it.
