On first listen it just seemed boring and samey.

...it has grown on me so much though. Xtina showed some real restraint.

Say Something really didn't drop hard and fast. For a song that had practically nil airplay or other exposure besides The Voice, it barely left the top 20 on iTunes which is EXTREMELY impressive. So I don't know where you got that impression really.

For a song to get #1 on the digital chart one week. Then barely be in the top 20 the next week............. is a big, fast, drop.

Saying it had no airplay is a nil point, since the lack of airplay only goes to strengthen the argument that it wasn't making an impact at the time.
