"what can we except"
Not Brooklyn Nights
The first 5 tracks of ULTRAVIOLENCE truly are an immense slay though. Kind of disappointed that we heard the 2 best tracks before the album, nothing can compare to West Coast and Brooklyn Baby for me.
"what can we except"
I'm really hoping Arca has a heavy presence again because he was what made EP2 so special IMO. I know i can't expect a full album of his production but I'll be devastated if he wasn't involved in at least a few tracks.
Arca is practically guaranteed to work on some of the album; he has his own solo LP coming up in the fall fwiw.
inc and Emile Haynie (producer for SZA, Lana, Sampha, London Grammar) have confirmed tracks on the Twigs album.
...literally who?
Is this the girl who was kicked off the first season of US X-Factor after 2 episodes to make room for Nicole Scherzinger?
Ooh I don't care about my lipstick
I just wanna drive you
To love, love, love, love
What kind of speeding down a deserted country road while getting a BJ antherm? Your faves aren't ready for Carly Rae Jesus Her resurrection.
Anyone expecting a person with no exposure to America, and a difficult to understand Geordie nonetheless, to take off was just being naive, but that doesn't diminish her other achievements
Yeah, I think with the right songs Cheryl could be much more than she already is. It's a shame most of her output sounds like crap (except her singles).
I was a huge Girls Aloud fan and I barely care for Cheryl as it is. Nicola Roberts is obviously the most talented one (or interesting, because Nadine may have the vocal chops, her music has been even worse than Cheryl).
I didn't get it at the time and still don't. Like, is a Geordie accent really that difficult to understand? I've never really had trouble understanding any sort of accent, though, so idk. I'm a good listener.
What kind of hipstery mess
So, tell us all what you thought of Queen Ronika?
You were a huge Girls Aloud fan? Even though they may have broken up, you will forever be a stan of Gods Aloud. Their music permeated the British cultural consciousness in a way that many could only dream of ;_; They will live on long after we are dead and buried.
Nah, but I agree. Nicola >>>>>>>>> Kim > Nadine >>>>>>> Sarah >>>>>>> Cheryl. But only Nicola, Nadine and Cheryl are really interested in taking the music thing further, Kim did a showtunes album or something but meh. And why did Nadine take a deal with Tesco for an album, what would possess someone to do that.
And yessss, stan Nicola Godberts, our ginger queen and saviour. I was pleasantly surprised by how wonderful her vocals are considering she never really got much solo time, she's got an excellent voice. [/IMG]
Boom Clap was originally for Hilary Duff
Btw, ASTR have finally done a video for Blue Hawaii, which is my fave off their Varsity EP.
Personally, I'm over those tumblr-y visuals (I'm guessing the budget for this video was ~ 5 $), but I'm happy the song is a single.
ASTR - Blue Hawaii
Hahahh, what's so hipstery about my list?
I'll give her a listen later today, after I finish translating an assigment I just got, and I'll let you know then. My expectations are high because of your post
L-O! V-E! Dance to the beat of my drum! Dance to the beat of my drum!Beat Of My Drum should have been a huge hit. That song was driving me crazy when it was released (I'm listening to it just now and I feel like I'm back in summer 2011). And then there was this fantastic album that followed shortly after...

Not a lie spotted, it's pretty fantastic
She looks familiar to someone and I can't quite put my finger on who
omg, so goodI absolutely adore M.O's new single, Dance On My Own.
Been following these girls since their first single two years ago. Each single has been stronger than the last. I hope they're gonna blow up soon.
This is kind of great in every way, have a listen:
Ryn Weaver - OctaHate
edit: even Jessie Ware is stanning in the comments!
END ME RYNSUS
At first you're like 'this is a cute bop' and then she powers into the chorus and it's just distressingly perfect.
Gimme, gimme that love, I'll be waitin' for ya'
And catch my hand, I'll be fightin' for ya'
Let me in, yeah, let me get closer
Me runnin' wild like I feel it all over
Catch my hand, I'll be fightin' for ya'

Indie Flop Fave Who Deserves More Fame Than Your Fave Guaranteed Alert:
Get into Ronika, whose album, Selectadisc, dropped silently on 2nd June, and who doubtlessly flopped harder than all your flop faves could ever dream of. Poor bitch has less than 400 followers on Spotify. She was building the hype machine in 2011 but then got waylaid by an autoimmune disease and spent a lot of time in hospital
However, the floppage is unfair, as her musak is actually rather good. Whilst her fashion sense has been described as 'Gwen Stefani meets George at Asda', her musical style is best described as '80s-Madonna-meets-Moroder', and she has far more vocal ability than the two aforementioned blondes. She blends modern electronic dance with 80s pop and disco influences for a timelessly iconic sound. Influences from freestyle, boogie and Italo have permeated her music in to ensure a freshness that distances her from her contemporaries. And even then, influences from jazz and funk seep in as a result of her background: Selectadisc was the name of a record shop in Nottingham where she used to go before it was closed by the evil recession.
Ronika's personal ethos is that 'music doesn't have to be dark to have depth of emotion'. Which is something I think all our faves recognise and draw from. They're just not as articulate.
Here are some songs to try:
Forget Yourself
Rough n' Soothe
In the City (you can download this one for free from her Soundcloud xxx)
Only Only
Automatic (not an album track, but still a great song)
The whole album is amazing, those are just the ones with iconic music videos. Search Siren is the most classic-disco-Moroder with beautiful vocals, serving as a tremendous closer; Video Collection is the closest to the feel of an 80s Madonna track, but with a modern twist where you can see the influences, but equally how she's evolved them into something entirely new and magical. I could go through the whole album in this manner. What all the tracks have in common is that they make you dance.
And don't just trust me, take note of these (semi-)expert opinions:
Ronika has cherry-picked key influences to create one of 2014's most assured and fun-filled debut albums. Mixmag
A masterfully assured selection of joyful pop songs. Mojo Magazine
Quirkily British, DIY re-rendering of NYC Danceteria-centred disco scene. Q Magazine
Groove-laden basslines and deep soul vocals. The Guardian
One of 2014's top dance albums. The Mirror
This is an album made of 13 bangerz - every one is a dancefloor filler and every one will be stuck in your head for weeks to come. Notion Magazine
Bold, ecstatic songs draw on synthetic 80's dance music... but don't call it throwback; this is a thoroughly contemporary singer. The Observer
Her handling of the source material is so adept, and the results are so fab and imbued with understanding and affection. Sunday Times
Immaculate...pop music for credible pop fans. NME

I'm just going to repost this in hope that more people will give this album a listen.
