Well, thanks for the answers, guess I'll have to try myself. :p

Why would you want to do that?

Mostly because none of my friends have the game, and I want to try the coop tests.
I'm a bit hesitant about playing with strangers, and more so after reading some of the last comments about this.

We're all friends here at gaf, right? I'm sure there is someone on here who wants to play co-op.

Beat the game. Really impressive on all accounts. Wheatley's character was brilliant and just what the game needed to succeed Portal 1. Although I appreciate the number of puzzles added into the game compared to P1, I felt the majority were somewhat too simple, and the more challenging ones towards the end gained difficulty in the level design more so than the puzzle itself.

Beat the game yesterday.

Fucking amazing. Best game I've played this year so far. In fact, I think it's one of the best I ever played.

Also, while the co-op is nice, I can't help but feel a versus multiplayer mode could be absolutely amazing - though very difficult to make and balance.

I've delayed getting this until my exams had finished. They have, and my copy has just arrived from Amazon.

pretty sure there's a community thread for Co-op, shame you can't play with random people.

just finished the single player, it was fantastic of course and stephen merchant's voice didn't even annoy me that much! I was a little disappointed with the difficulty, I would of liked some much harder puzzles towards the end and what happened to that vacuum tube thing from the demos?

I was hoping that we'd get a challenge mode for completing single player but it looks like I'm going to have to wait for that.

Anybody tried any community maps yet? Any you recommend?

I want to replay through this a second time. I also want to read Final Hours of Portal 2. Should I play through the second time before or after reading. Would one compliment the other better if done in a "correct" manner?

Would have***
Apparently vacuum tubes didn't make the cut. I believe there's info on it in the Final Hours article.

Can anyone help me?
Weatley has sent myself and GLaDOS down the bottomless pit. I've been able to find my way and cane to an empty warehouse. JK Simmons has spoken for the first time. There are two buildings in the are. One I can reach, the other I can't. How do I reach the other?/leave the area?

This game controlled me unlike any other in quite some time...

I usually play games in small sessions over a couple of weeks (i rarely play a game for over 1 hour consecutively and 1 hour is usually the time i put into a game per day) but this game just grabbed me pretty much instantly.

I played in a few sessions up until chapter 4 and from chapter 4 onwards i just couldn't stop playing. The writing was amazing; the scope, scale and locations were amazing; the characters were just perfect, even though i saw one twist coming, masterly acted; the story was engaging thorough and the different mechanics introduced and the pacing to which they were introduced was just phenomenal.
The puzzles were mostly easy and i really never got stuck in any one of them for a long time but this didn't bother me at all.

Portal 2 was definitely some of the most fun I've had with a game for quite a long time.

i wouldnt called it lock on as such but if you have a square and place a portal even if you sight is off centre the portal appears centralised.

Something interesting.

iJustine, the girl that Gametrailers felt fit to hire to read Twitter and Facebook reaction messages during E3, decides to do an LP of Portal 2. (currently still updating) She completely misses the point of the game's humor and pacing, sings annoying songs throughout her videos, and is so dense that she spends way too much time trying to figure out the puzzles, including taking ten minutes trying to figure out the very first one.

This did not sit well with one person in particular and as a result, two highly entertaining videos have been made. I implore you to watch. (in horror)

Her vids are really infuriating. Frank Howley did a parody of them with Cut the Rope that was pretty good: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uzKDAwtbpfI

I've always wondered, where did electric boogaloo originate?

Holy shit, I CANNOT watch the video longer than 1 minute. So fucking obnoxious. I thought "Oh hey, this will be stupid in a funny way!" Nope, just plain ol' annoying.

Edit: These videos however LOL

what part are you stuck on? seems you have it sorted?
Well, I'm not really sure if I should have the displays mirrored or as separate ones (my laptop's pretty weak, so I'm leaning toward the less-resource consuming one), but more importantly, I'm wondering how I should go about mapping the controls so everything works well.

Finally started playing this thing!!!

A bit into chapter 2 and I'm realizing that I'm not actually losing interest in videogames, I'm just almost never getting to play genuinely good ones like this anymore. <3

I guess I'm the only one that didn't care for the story. All of the facility traversing parts interspersed between the puzzle room levels felt like filler and tacked on. The pseudo-platforming was really annoying. I prefer the simpler presentation of the first game.

Just finished the game...

Great game. Too fuckin short. Too fuckin easy.

Its possible my perception of the length is affected by the fact I had a couple long breaks between sittings due to Uni exams. But still. Game was FAAAR to easy. Is this a common complaint? And no achievements for beating the chambers with less portals or whatever like in the first game. They were challenging and fun and gave the game legs.

Havent tried coop yet, but honestly as fun as it probably is I really could not give two shits about it. Why does every single game on the face of the fucking planet have to have a multiplayer element now? Even perfect single player type games like the first Portal was.

Ill stop whining now. (but honestly, game was easy right? Im not imagining that?)

COMPLETELY agree (I used caps so you know I mean it). At the start I really dug it and enjoyed looking around soaking in the atmosphere. Plus Merchant was cracking me up. But boy did it getting utterly tiresome. I mean I thought it was a fucking puzzle game?

i absolutely agree on that the parts in the outer world weren't as fun as the puzzle rooms. However, I found the story to be hilarious so I don' complain all too much. It severly lessens the game's appeal to be played again. All in all I'm of the opinion that the multiplayer mode is the best of all portal modes (portal 1, 2 single, 2 coop), because it combines 1's simple presentation and focus on gameplay with 2's more complex puzzles.

you really should play the co op man, i agree with you about how all games seem to tack on multiplayer elements where it's not necessary but this is one of the few times when it's done really well. if anything i enjoyed the co op campaign more than the singleplayer and i was not expecting that.

Exactly. Why the fuck would you bitch about multiplayer that everyone else on the planet has raved about because of your inaccurate preconceived notions based on what other games do? The co-op is absolutely amazing, and is the perfect example of multiplayer done right in the least expected way.

Versus should be a race mode.

It should be a set of maybe 5 or 6 maps that players know well.

4 player. 2 teams. Each with one portal gun OR bring back the paint gun from Tag. One player with dual portal gun, the other with paint gun.

Gives the multiplayer a HUGE boost in replayability, because it isn't about solving puzzles, it's about navigating a course to the end before the other team does.

Maps could have branching paths that players could choose.

Use a setup similar to the beginning of co-op, where you can see the other team through glass, but can't interfere. Other areas could show action elsewhere on big television screens.

Warning, story spoiler posted below....

I put a fucking portal on the fucking moon!!

Been wanting to scream that for 2 months now, so damn good.

Just finished the single-player campaign. I'm on Steam for Mac. Can I play co-op with someone not on a Mac?

And just for laughs, my thoughts: I'm a little disappointed they kept the test chamber template. I had hoped they would make it more of a free-range environment, like HL2, and let the player decide how to use the Portals. Obviously, that would be incredibly difficult to design, but, hey, it's Valve.

Yes. Cross-platform play encompasses Mac, PC and PS3.

Speaking of Portal resonating on a deep level with the player, has anyone tried to to show his significant other how mind-blowingly amazing the concept of the game is only to get a less than enthusiastic response? I keep trying to play with/in front of my wife to convince her of the game's mind-expanding qualities and at most she's mildly amused. I don't understand how 2 brains can be so different.

I think Portal is pretty easy to explain in concept. It is really easy to understand when you see a brief youtube video and go "oh neat, videogames."
I think your wife would actually have to sit down and play it beginning to end and experience figuring out the puzzles for herself to truly understand what it is like to think with portals.

Just finished this. It's probably one of my favourite games ever?

I was wondering,
how did Chell get back into Aperture Science? At the end of 1 we see she had made it out

Awhile after the game was released Valve added a extra part to the ending. Some robots dragged her back in while she was unconscious.

The Portal 2 announcement ARG began with Valve updating the original Portal with a revised ending showing Chell being dragged back into the facility by a bot ("Thank you for assuming the party escort submission position").

Edit: Beaten by seconds.

Looking for a PS3 partner to have a go at the co-op. PSN: Bellenaar-FZX

Tried the co-op for the first time tonight with some random people with only modest succes. Either I got partnered with pro guys who went straight for the harder tests and who got frustrated that I didn't figure everything out in 10 seconds and started to gesticulate ever more frantically or it was some annoying troll who was just being an ass. I guess you do need a friend to fully appreciate this.

I'm by no means a Portal expert but I'm patient and don't bite :)

I'm playing on Steam, but I think we can still play together. Interested? I'm up for playing right now. I think I invited you as a friend...
