Also,
why would Alyx use sign language to speak to Chell? Chell can hear just fine. Chell would be the one to have to use it because she is mute.

Maybe
then maybe she's alyx's mom and she was always mute and taught it to her? assuming sign language ever made it past the idea phase...

Noooo! Spoilers! Curse those unclosed tags!

I just love how big of a tease the
Ship Overboard
achievement/trophy is. So close, yet so far.

Oh, Valve.

Not quite. You want to come out of the left most portal with momentum, not bounce up form the floor.

Worked for me.

Edit: What's with the whole "Alyx and Chell are related" angle? Are we writing fan-fiction? "Chell is a mute, therefore the work Valve is doing with deaf people must mean that Alyx is going to communicate with Chell!" Are people this desperate for Portal to encroach on Half-Life's territory within the universe?

Chapter 8 - The first puzzle that took me more than five minutes to solve, and it was amazing.

The one where you need to quickly reverse and then reverse again the tractor beam to get the repulsion gel onto the three turrets
...wonderful. I'm smiling, like, nonstop here. = D

That was the only one I was really stuck on for a while, but I worked it out eventually.

One thing that amazed me about this game was the animation. I couldn't really tell whether certain things were physics-driven or canned, but it all worked so smoothly, and I don't think ever hitched on my computer. It actually had a harder time loading up a few voice samples and sounds at weird points than it did playing room-warping animation.

It was a great experience; it threatened to drag things out a little bit here and there, but usually found a good way to move things along soon enough. The ending was great, and they managed to pull of something they shouldn't have been able to with it. My one complaint is that you get a bad "Navi" feeling for the first 3rd, but thankfully it goes away and you're left on your own to explore and figure things out. Just on the single player alone I recommend the game, easily.

Although I don't know what they were thinking putting in a dress-up store for Co-Op. Most people aren't going to play this over and over the same way people replay TF2, or any other FPS. It's a puzzle game at heart, after all.

Although that's not really a spoiler or true or anything really. So even if you did read, lets not bounce of the handle or anything.

Writing Half Life fan-fiction isn't even a hobby anymore, its a way of life for some.

Basic rule of thumb when using spoiler tags, preview post first. (though as others have said, it wasn't really a spoiler per se... It's even established in the game's opening sequence, sort of).

Now as far the end of both games go people,
Still Alive
or
Want You Gone
?

So I'm at
The underground chambers, and this entire place is terribly designed. It's less about puzzle solving and more about getting lucky and just happening to see that one useable area of wall. Some places during Portal 1's escape that were like this too and they were just annoying

The IQ is fantastic on PS3 so it wouldn't surprise me if it was using MLAA.

You call that fantastic ? I mean it's pretty gross on both platforms for a source engine game. I'm playing the game right now on PC, it looks good mainly because of art direction, but it's definitely dated. It should run at 60ps and in 1080fps with AAX4 on consoles, easily. It's pretty empty, there's no AI or ennemies to manage. Valve really sucks on consoles.
I repeat though, this is a great looking game. They do need a new engine though, especially for HL2 EP3/HL3.

First one obviously.

Yeah I had the same problem. Although I think Portal wasn't as bad about this
and it was less of a problem in a smaller more confined space

Didn't like
Want you gone that much since it seemed very disjointed. I should listen to it some more

Soo good. also goddamn the
White gel climbing tower test, took my fucking forever to figure that shit out, and by forever i mean 15 minutes.

I think
Want You Gone
is a better
song
and has an awesome
beat.

The reaction to that non spoiler was pretty funny, especially when you realize people with no context will think it's actually real despite how bizarre it is.

I thought the entire ending of Portal 2 (including the credits) was much better than the ending of the first. The part where
the turrets are waiting for you and you think that's it, but instead they start singing
was weird and incredible. More shit like that in videogames, developers. I fucking loved every second. The only thing that I was a little let down by was the fact that there wasn't
any direct hints or teases toward Episode 3
. I'll live, though. All in all it was amazing.

Well at least we now know
Portal 1 > Half-Life 1 > Portal 2 > Half Life 2

Does the voice actress of glados do the commentary again in portal 2?
Her voice gave me goosebumps again when I watched the trailer on steam, she is amazing.

I know there's a deluge of Portal 2 threads but it seems a pretty ripe game for a story spoiler thread. I mean, even MK has its own spoiler thread.

I believe my exact words when
the elevator opened to the turrets, prior to their singing, was "That bitch!" ... Then they started singing
and I can't even make an emote describing my facial expression

Totally agree. Loved the ending! I'm glad they didn't
tease about Episode 3. The wait would be unbearable.

Portal 2 ending song Want You Gone
, easily. Mostly because
Ellen McLain really got a chance to sing this time, and she sounds great. I love the harmonizing effect during the chorus
.

Well that and
I'm sick of Still Alive, meme and all
.

Edit: Oh yeah, in Portal 2's ending,
the turret choir was awesome too. I cracked up when I noticed the giant "animal king" turret in the background
.

And it's not like we have any evidence to suggest that Alyx was kidnapped or that Chell was taken from Alyx's/"her" family.

People are connecting dots that aren't there.

Edit: Whoops, forgot a line.

Are we sure about that, though?

I was under the impression that
Portal 2 took place after Half-Life 2. If the Combine were using the atmospheric reprocessors for any period of time before there's no way the sky would be clear like that in Portal 2. Maybe I got confused somewhere.

Impressed by Valves first real PS3 game... looks pretty fantastic on ps3. What kind of AA solution did they go with, anyone know??

Enjoyed the game. I would say I enjoyed both Half Life 2 and maybe 1 slightly more.
That weird moon set piece was odd. Guess there wont be a Portal 3? I never understood how she ended back up there though. She was sleeping for years? She escaped at the end of one. When did the first Portal take place anyways?

Believed to be MLAA.

Valve snapped up a bunch of talent from Sony's first-party stable, including Naughty Dog, if I'm not mistaken.

Portal 1 takes place siginficantly longer before Portal 2. Portal 1's ending actually changed in that Chell is dragged back into the facility. I recommended checking out the comic (available in the Extras menu) that bridges the two games

Portal 1 took place between HL1 and HL2.

A year ago before Portal 2 was announced, Valve patched Portal 1 to add the original ending to the game back in: while Chell is lying in that parking lot looking area, a robot comes up behind her and drags her back in.

If you re-play portal 1, the ending has changed.

Just need some one to make one, maybe PM Evilore to check if its ok. But I am pretty sure the only reason we don't have one is because no one bothered to make it.

I replayed portal 1 when they updated it and I thought she was crawling away from the facility by herself injured. Always thought she returned back to the labs on her own will. This was before I started the game. Gotta read the comic I guess.

You didn't hear the robot that thanks you for assuming the party escort submission position?
