We would have animals with excellent fight scenes if Nickelodeon wasn't run by fuck-ups. But noooo we have to have two years instead of one.

To be honest my favorite designs/style were the Pirate(Megaforce) Power Rangers, even though the original hold a nostalgic place for me.

I mean the whole thing is ridiculous, but that's kind of the point.

If it's a fun summer flick a la Transformers 1 that's all I ask for.
 
Folks, I dunno. To me this looks... bad. Like, bad in a Transmorphers way. I grew up loving the original Power Rangers (never saw anything past the first series), but aside from how Zordon looks (kinda cool, admittedly), everything else looks only a half-step above what The Asylum does. Maybe Michael Bay has just beaten out of me the optimism I once had for these old property remakes, I dunno.

You cant be serious. You've seen an Asylum movie, right? Asylum movies make this look like Avatar
 
Outside of the really cool Zordon sequence... yikes.

You know, I am humoring the idea that since Japan managed to make a better Pixels film it makes me wonder if they could do a better Power Rangers film (as in power rangers, not super sentai, they pretty much acknowledge their existence and difference).

Go watch RPM. Like right now. It's "what would happen if a serious Power Rangers was done properly while poking fun at its stuff".

I disagree, MMPR has meh suits but later ones have better looks.

Ninja Storm/Hurricaneger, SPD/Dekaranger, Operation Overdrive/Boukenger, Mega Force/Goseiger, and Super Mega Force/Gokaiger come to my mind

too bad they skipped the GOAT suit Go-Busters

Turbo was adapting Carranger, and that shit was very abstract-comedy (and one of the greatest sentai shows). Turbo gets better at the cast change though.
 
Tone of the movie seems fine, not overly dark like some were afraid of. CG looks kinda cheap though, need to see some more of the action/fight choreography, they still aren't showing much. I want it to be good, I'm just not sure yet if it will be, fingers crossed!

By the way, Zordon totally reminds me of a toy I used to own, I forget what it was called, but it was like this square box with glass on one side and these metal spikes on the other, and you'd press your hand or even your face against it to make shapes out of it, anyone know what I'm talking about?

Wow, this makes me remember how I always thought putting a face into these looked kinda like Zordon back then.

Elizabeth Banks seems to be the one redeeming part of this project.

It looks like she knows EXACTLY what kind of movie she's in and she's going for ultimate ham - just DEVOURING the scenery.
 
That looks absolutely atrocious.

This movie was never for me though, as I don't believe Saban is capable of making anything original that is even remotely interesting. The only thing that company excels at is ruining other people's work with bad ideas.

They closest they ever got to making anything even mediocre was the original MMPR movie.

hey now, In Space and Lost Galaxy are pretty original and they're good

and the short stint of Mystic Knights of Tir Na Nog are also good

remember that Saban doesn't really actually "engage" in production - iirc he just provides financing

I'll take your word for it as I never watched past Turbo. Around that time is when I realized what was going on and discovered the beautiful culture of Sentai. I never looked back. Might have seen half an episode of Space once.

Saban is of course doing none of the creative work, but the person pulling the purse strings always gets last say on everything.

I will eat crow if it's actually good. I expect it to be about as entertaining as Gatchaman (2013). And that is one of the few movies where I contemplated walking out of the theater.

mind you I am not defending this movie, just saying that there have been good stuff

and yeah he does get the last say but iirc it's mostly on budget, like if the rumors are true, the producer involved in Mega Force/Super Mega Force was fired due to wasteful spending and broken promises

you should check out Power Rangers RPM, arguably the most "holy shit it's a 180 degree flip" from its Sentai counterpart.
 
Power Rangers was my shit back in the day as a kid so this looks like it could be fun if a little by the numbers (missing all the cheesiness)

I hated all the promo pics of the costume / zords.. but I'm fully on board after this trailer. I'm tempted to watch the original series again. I'm guessing it hasn't aged well though?
 
The merchandise and promotional material really isn't doing the aesthetic any favors,
meanwhile the Zords and suits actually look okay in action.

Im legitimately excited for some reason.
