Power Rangers - Official Trailer

Yikes. That looked bad. I mean, it is pretty much what you'd expect from a Power Rangers movie now. I'm sure kids will love it.

That's what I think a lot of us are forgetting. It's for a new generation of kids.

OUR Power Rangers movies were... well, they were special.

Lots of spinning...

1) This movie will be horrible.
2) Fans will excuse how utterly terrible this movie is because reasons like it was fun. Which just means I like nostalgia.
3) more horrible sequels will be made regardless of the quality of the first movie.

This isn't the DCEU. The fans have been the ones who are the most critical about this movie. If anyone's gonna go to bat for it, it's gonna be the casual viewers who just like their brainless action and CGI disaster porn.

Nostaglia has nothing to do with a movie being dumb fun.

Brainless action and CGI disaster porn fails in Hollywood all the time if it's a bad movie. Add a shitty property to it to blind fans to the quality of the actual movie and you have yourself new TMNT and its sequels.

Nostalgia of source material makes people excuse a shitty movie as just dumb fun.
Other way around IMO. People can enjoy a movie if it's dumb fun regardless of nostaglia or not. I mean, only reason I'm interested in this is because it looks like Chronicles with a bigger budget and more sci-fi stuff

TMNT fans hate BayTurtles...

Some might, but that doesn't stop them from giving them their money for nostalgia hype. Which is more my point.

Great OT.

Watching this next week, I'm really excited and this could really turn out to be the best comic book movie of the year so far.

It looks like pure fanservice and that's in no way a bad thing when it comes to Turtles and was really the only direction they could go after the godwaful first movie.

I didn't want this imy life after last movie but now I need it in my life

Seeing it Friday, don't care about reviews for this. It's full on 80's/IDW comics Turtles and that's all I need.

Said before, don't like the turtle designs, and really didn't care for the first one. But this movie, man, seems like they are trying to cater to the 80's fan. Which I am.

Can't believe to say I really want to see this now.

Have you seen the source material? How else would you categorize it other than dumb fun?

A kids show made for kids. But nostalgia and Hollywood's ability to siphon money for that nostalgia regardless of the movies actual quality will turn it into a Hollywood cgi blockbuster.

looks terrible, and not just in the way that Power Rangers was always kinda terrible but in the new hollow 21st century cgi-addled blockbuster way. the original at least had a bunch of campy wirefu martial arts and colorful low-budget effects, this looks to be all transformers sharp metal nonsense and awful quick-cut action with zero visual legibility
To each their own, but when I think "Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers" I don't think "Rap Music".

rap music is mainstream now and has been for over a decade. it may have been a more niche genre during the original run of power rangers but the young children this movie is for grow up listening to hip-hop. They (and most anybody in touch with music culture, frankly) don't associate hip-hop with "certain kinds" of media. it's just popular music.

The suits look overdesigned but better than the originals. Honestly if they wanted to modernize the suits I feel like they should have studied iron man's design more than transformer's when designing the suits/creatures.

To be honest my favorite designs/style were the Pirate(Megaforce) Power Rangers, even though the original hold a nostalgic place for me.

So, Goldar and the Megazord are basically no bigger than an apartment building....

well, that explains the weird human-to-zord size difference on that poster where pink ranger is made to look like she taller than a tree.

Also, why does every movie like this now have to resemble Chronicle in basic beats and low-budget approach to superheroisms? Yes, I know Landis is still credited with this movie, but a lot of shitty movies take this structure now, for some reason.
I mean, why would we need to be introduced that way to "people who get super from wearing suits" when all you need is the goddamn suit. It's literally the whole point of these mecha things that the people in the suits are not super at all.

Honestly, I like the suits in motion too. Even though I'm not a fan of how monochrome they are. That said, I do think these posted earlier look better:

Credited on Power Rangers? I don't think he is. Either way, I kind of like the super-outside-the-suit angle. They fought outside the suits all the time in the show anyway.

Alpha is better than I thought but still inferior to the old one. I like the black guy. Heisenberg is a wallpaper now and pulls it off. Wtf at Rita... I hope the final battle is not a Marvelish army of faceless goons. The Zords look cool in motion. They really shouldn't have snubbed the original theme song for the trailer but the callback at the end is a nice touch. I might go see this movie.

This movie confuses me. We're in an era of movies where audiences are totally cool with Chris Pratt saving the galaxy alongside a raccoon and a sentient tree and yet we can't get a more straight adaptation of MMPR. If anything this era would be the time to pull the trigger on a straight reboot of MMPR with all of the cheese of the original series and I think audiences would be down with it

Everyone is always going to bring up that fucking movie as a example for believability in films. SMH Sephzilla

It looks exactly like how I would have imagined it to look. I don't find it to be offensive, it is just... modern Hollywood cheese. I would have preferred it to look more Japanese-gonzo style. Oh well.

That Kamloops landscape though... funny how I was in one of these locations just a few weeks ago. I keep looking closely at the scene where everyone was running just to see if I can spot anyone that I know. I know two people who where extra's during the "panicking people" scenes. One of then were in this movie at three different times, and he was wearing different clothes in every scene. The guy is well over six feet tall , so he would be easy to spot.

I think that's the overriding problem with the art direction. The group of people who conceived it were too scared to go for hammy/silly like the original series its based off. They tried too hard to be cool and in turn, they've created something by committee, that's boring, over-designed and less cool than the 90s.
.

It's like Hollywood has forgotten about simplicity or good middle ground designs in its big blockbuster movies. The over-designed objects are soon fighting for the audiences' attention and eventual become visual noise on screen.
A giant golden robot would've been enough, instead of the frivolous meltiness.

Not only is "Power" a poor choice for the trailer, they didn't even use it right. Should've cut it so that after he says "I guess every superhero needs his theme music." it would switch to the OG theme.

I still think the suits, Zords, Goldar & Rita look like trash but I think movie might turn out okay.
