Preacher w/ ‘you deserve to be raped’ sign hit over head by bat wielding woman

He's threatening students dude. He's proven that he's absolutely willing to take his threats into action. And in this situation he's threatening teenagers with rape. Like pretty clear cut.

Do you really think this justification would fly in any meaningful debate? Oh this guy is saying something fucked up and he has assaulted someone before, better fucking hit him with a bat.

You know what else is a deeply disturbing expression of violence? Attacking someone with a deadly weapon.

Yeah ok. You are stunningly indifferent to the reality of sexual violence against women and how words and speech feed into this reality and completely concerned about a single isolated incident of violence against a man spewing hate speech on a high school campus. Yes, your words reflect your values.

“Violence never really deals with the basic evil of the situation. Violence may murder the murderer, but it doesn’t murder murder. Violence may murder the liar, but it doesn’t murder lie; it doesn’t establish truth. Violence may even murder the dishonest man, but it doesn’t murder dishonesty. Violence may go to the point of murdering the hater, but it doesn’t murder hate. It may increase hate. It is always a descending spiral leading nowhere. This is the ultimate weakness of violence: It multiplies evil and violence in the universe. It doesn’t solve any problems.” – Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

Hmmm...me too.

C'mon bruh.

Oh look the Trump supporter came back to pull out the MLK card....

So the response to free speech is violence?

This is hate speech candy coated to sound like free speech given to an audience of teenagers that are still developing.

I mean seriously did anyone think this would not end in violence?

Not indifferent, it just doesn't warrant getting fucking attacked with a bat.

Thank you.

Yes.

Ah, my mistake.

Wonder what GAF's reaction would be if the guy hit was a Muslim.

What are you talking about? How many stories have you seen that are like this but with a Muslim figure? I think you overstate how much the "GAF hivemind" defends Islam.

His determination for when it is appropriate to use violence to defend one's self might simply align with the law in this case, which I think is true for a lot of people. There is of course no legal justification for what happened so the question is about moral justifications. And I don't see how anyone could classify the "hitting him in the head was wrong" position as indefensible.

I don't think the position is indefensible, but for several posters it is accompanied by strong rhetoric of the woman as being an awful person. Yeah, it's illegal, but calling her awful for assaulting a person who advocated for violence against her and others is not "awful." It's an emotional reaction by someone who likely had to see that a lot more than just that one day.

I'm not advocating that. My last sentimant was a bit on the angry side. Because i have a heart. Say extreme things, don't be surprised if those affected have an extreme reaction.

no you must be an unfeeling automaton at all times because emotion is illogical for reasons and words don't mean anything

I wonder if someone will bring up MLK completely unrelated

Bwhahaha holy shit you called it. Between the two of us we're two for two

No intention on my part to insult anyone.
I just find it strange this guy spends his time getting angry about people who are attracted to people the same sex as themselves.

He alsi hates women

If this was a meaningful situation he wouldn't be allowed to threaten students in the first place. He's not just saying something fucked up. He's genuinely threatening teenagers with the possibly of being raped, for being LBGT, and for what they wear. You genuinely think this dude:

needs to be anywhere near teenagers? Do you have any idea how much words can hurt the psyche of a high schooler? Especially when it comes to matters such as sex, fashion, religion, and sexual preferences? And this dude is advocating for the sexual assault of them. Like, what are you even doing?

Where are the hate speech laws governing this rhetoric then?

While it is not uncommon for closeted LGBT people to lash out against other LGBT people, most homophobic people are just taught to have that venom.

I'm advocating against attacking someone with a deadly weapon, unlike several people in this thread.

I'm advocating not assaulting someone with a deadly weapon as a reasonable option, unlike several people in this thread.

Look, if you're just gonna bray that line over and over and over and over again, can you atleast copy and paste like a spambot so you're not pretending to have said anything people haven't already repeatedly addressed and refuted?

Those signs are so damn disturbing :/

Those signs deserve mockery and derision. Physically attacking a person for a message gives his opinion legitimacy. This is what people do not understand. You laugh at him, humiliate him and then you go full ham when HE is on his last straw and attempting to incite violence.

I'm not so sure the fundamental disagreement here is over whether or not the woman is an awful person.

I truly just don't get these kinds of extreme Christians man... isn't it supposed to be love thy neighbor, all welcome, be kind to each other, etc? How do people like this truly believe they are in the right and serving their God by abusing other people with such awful words? It just makes me depressed thinking about how delusional and how horrible people can get.

I think it's only fair when posters responding to him are attacking him and implying he's a rape apologist because he doesn't think it's okay for words to be met with violence.

Yeah women just laugh at being told you deserve to be raped...

It's all so funny.

lol, there is nothing that can refute the idea that it is not okay to assault someone.

He literally incites violence unprovoked anyway on his own. And no, hitting this dude with a bat does not mean "see, women and LBGT people DO deserve to be raped and is kinda maybe a valid opinion," nor is that phrase even an opinion, it's a threat. We're not reducing the threat of rape to "just a difference of opinion." Period. Nor is that threat a laughing matter. It's not, it's something people go through everyday.

Being a broken record without addressing the actual counterarguments being presented isn't doing him any favors in that regard. If anything, it's the opposite because it implies he doesn't have a counter that wouldn't implicate him as a rape apologist.

They've never felt oppression of injustice to the point they want to give up their comfort.

I'm a 28 year old black man, I've been fired/jumped/insulted/disrespected all because of my skin color. If I walked to the store and saw a man holding a sign saying "Go Home Nigger" and hit him in the head with a bat, I would be an attempted murderer.

Oh look.

Mr. Free Speech Defender has come to tell us that because the Preacher got attacked, the guy who LITERALLY ADVOCATES RAPE now has a gotten legitimacy.

You guys are too fucking predictable.

No. What you do by escalating to violence is telling him that having an opinion like that has an impact. When it shouldn't, because it's a ludicrous one.

what the fuck do you know about me?

That you haven't been pushed to the point you'd want to give up your comfort to fight back that way?

I'm not advocating actually going around hitting people. I'm saying I understand why people feel its justified because they've simply been pushed too far. I'm also not calling you weak for not being violent.

I do believe that /everyone/ has that point, though.

maybe the more angry people have a more youthful bent to it, i for one am tired of seeing my parents and elders just take racism as "what can you do", i'm growing up into a world where this shit is normalised of course i'm going to try and stop it, especially seeing as time and time again debating doesn't work because you're giving their ideas a level platform when really, they aren't

But those opinions do have impact. Pretending they don't won't help people. :/

Did that poster actually say it's the worst thing anyone could do?

Actually yeah lol

"Nah, not really. Blindsiding someone with a bat is just about the shittiest thing one person can do to another, that is straight up the lowest of the low."

I don't blame you for being skeptical, it's a really weird hyperbole to make, disregarding whether you see any goodness to her actions

Fixed that for you and because it DOES have impact. Again, do you have any idea what words do to teenagers? This is literally the exact same sort of shit that drives them to suicide.

That you haven't been pushed to the point you'd want to give up your comfort to fight back that way?

So you just assume that everyone who thinks assault is not an acceptable answer have never been through serious shit? This emotionally insensitive bullshit is exactly the response this guy probably wants. Grats.
