Sorry Kobun, I gotta 'borrow' this news

International Data Group Singapore reports today that the Japanese arm of online retailer Amazon has received over 10,000 customer registrations for the upcoming Sony PSP and Nintendo DS. The group also noted a "high level of interest" in the product page for the PlayStation 3. Registering their email address with Amazon.jp allows customers to be notified as soon as the products are available for preorder on the site. The two pages have been open since June 9.

I read the title, and was curious who was taking preorders in the PSP. We got incentives this week to start really pushing the DS on customers at work, even if it means losing out on GBA sales. Should be really interesting...

What I left out of this, mostly because it wouldn't really fit in a news piece, is that I doubt many Japanese gamers really buy their hardware online. They'd rather go down to the local camera shop and wait in line for like, eight hours.

Who wouldn't? That's way more fun, camping out and taking a piss on the sidewalk.

What? They make no distinction between the number of preorders for the DS and PSP? Don't they know we rely on competitor numbers to breathe here?!?

"The pages for Nintendo Co. Ltd.'s Nintendo DS and Sony Computer Entertainment Inc.'s (SCEI) PSP have already attracted more than 5,000 registrations each, Amazon Japan Inc. spokeswoman Megumi Miyazaki said Thursday." [IDG.com.sg]

I have been ignoring PSP so far so excuse me if I ask this... Will PSP like the Nintendo handhelds have no region lock?

With having disc-based media, and more importantly Licenced Movies, (and slightly less importantly, it being SONY) it wouldn't seem likely.
