Nothing tastier than a salad of baby spinach and rocket with lemon and chili tuna, avocado, and Tuscan antipasto (sundried tomatoes, mixed olives, artichoke and eggplant).

If anyone here is ever in the mood for chocolate check out either Lily's or Coco Polo chocolate bars.

Also I can't find mint or birthday cake halo top anywhere and it's killing me.

Made some macadamia nut butter this weekend that was amazing!

1 lb macadamia nuts
3 tbsp coconut oil

Process the macadamia nuts until they begin separating from their oil and turn buttery (a few minutes)

Then add the coconut oil and process some more.

Put in a jar and cool in the fridge.

I want to use it as a glaze for meats, but I took half of it the other night and made macadamia butter cookies, they were good, though a little on the flakey side, almost like coconut macaroons, which were amazing in their own right, just not very cookie like (almost more biscuity). I'll post the recipe this weekend.

Bought myself a sous-vide machine (anova), I've already got my first few meals planned out with it lol. This is going to be great.

Any reason to avoid consuming creatine after working out while on this diet?

I wouldn't think so other than probably needing to pay more attention to how much water you'll be needing.

I like my anova but i hardly use it....but I can see it being useful for making a few days worth of meals at a time, especially chicken.

Good purchase. I'd been lusting for a sous vide device for a long time so my girlfriend got me an Anova for Christmas; having perfectly cooked meat every time is the best. :)

Been about 4 weeks on low(er)-carb. Some things I learned:

1. A cast-iron skillet is great for making steak
2. Siggi's yogurt and Halo Top ice cream are amazing
3. Parsnip chips are awful compared to pork rinds
4. Wheat or carbs/sugar make me break out
5. Avocados and eggs are your best friends
6. Dark chocolate helps with sweet cravings
7. You will lose a few pounds of water weight quickly
8. No more bloat after meals and less gas
9. I can still run 3-4 miles without eating carbs that day

Very nice baby J

#7 is so true. I was 175 on tuesday and im closing the week with 171 pounds. I know its all water but damn that weight went down fast! Is it really ok to eat Halo top Ice cream without any guilt? I know its just my first week but im craving a pint of Ben & Jerry's like crazy! (not trying to say that I would like a pint of Halo Top of course :p)

The lack of sweets is definitely the most difficult thing about this diet for me. I love that I can eat all kinds of wonderful savory meals though, which is what drew me to the diet in the first place.

I've just discovered the wonders of aubergine pizza, so easy to make too. Had one topped with mozzarella, sun-dried tomatoes and smoked bacon today. Delicious and filling. Turns out olive oil is an absolute must when baking aubergines though, I just cant trade it up for coconut oil.

I have the biggest sweet tooth ever, it's my struggle too. However the longer I go the less I crave it. Plus I've begun to notice that things I never thought were sweet actually have some sweetness to them. I also indulge in a single single piece of 90% dark chocolate every day or two. That isn't cheating right? Riiiiight?

keto isn't that hard to get into. you lose a lot of weight. Just dont eat cabs for about 1.5-2 weeks and you're got to go. combo with gym for quick weight loss.

I'm down 8 pounds from two weeks ago. When I start doing keto I don't weigh myself the first couple days so I don't capture the initial water weight loss, so I feel pretty confident in that figure.

A couple things: for me, a cheat day/meal can stall progress, but it's easy to get back into ketosis by simply fasting a long time after the meal; we went out to a Mexican place for my wife's birthday for dinner, I definitely got my chips and salsa and margarita on, didn't eat again until the next afternoon and was back into ketosis within 24 hours. You will crash and feel shitty for a while though.

I like to weigh myself every morning on an empty stomach and bladder. Sometimes it's not advisable because of water weight fluctuations, but I know myself enough to take that into account when recording. I weighed in -4 pounds one day from the day before. Instead of jumping for joy, I split that difference because I knew there was no way I had a 14,000 calorie deficit the day before. Sure enough, the next day I was two pounds heavier. So I put the actual weight. It's kind of dumb, but psychologically I feel better looking at a flat line on the graph than a big spike when I go from dehydrated to not.

Also, learn to like avocados.

Nursing week at work, they're bringing out all the fattening foods this year.

Yesterday for breakfast all they had were muffins, bagels, doughnuts, and pastries. No eggs or bacon so I just had some coffee. Caved in and ate one doughnut just so the caterers didn't feel bad. When I came home I did a couple HIIT workouts to burn it lol.

Today it's going to be ice cream... test of wills man. I have a small dish of tuna + avacado with a grapefruit and banana(extra if still hungry) that I'm bringing in for lunch.

After my Gym review since starting keto on 11th March i'm down a touch over 10Kg, not bad for 1 month.

I had a bit of a blowout Sunday as i threw a BBQ for the family, had a proper hotdog roll and burger bun + sauces etc, likely had 100g Carbs in total, but according to my ketostix i've stayed in ketosis and been well back on track the last 2 days.

Whats the best or easiest way to know if you're in ketosis? A friend told me that the urine is going to smell funny and look a bit different, but I take multivitamins so my urine is nuclear green for the most part of the day so its kind of difficult.

I am losing weight like crazy right now so I know I gotta be in ketosis, but just for future reference if I ever snap out of it because of a cheat day or meal.

Ketostix. You pee on them and if they turn a certain color you're in ketosis. Think they're pretty cheap on Amazon.

On a holiday now for two weeks but when I get back home I'll be back on keto. Also gonna be working out a lot, what do you guys recommend? I was thinking of starting 5x5 stronglifts. Anyone got experience with it?

I've been experimenting with protein bars lately. A lot of them are hit and miss, but I've found the Sportness vanilla bars to be genuinely tasty and relatively inexpensive

Ketostix are problematic as pointed out above, but I can taste when I'm in ketosis (and my wife can smell it on my breath). After morning coffee, I'll brush my teeth and start drinking water at my desk at work and I'll have a distinct taste in my mouth. Also, I seem to notice my teeth feel like they acquire this film or something, so I brush them more frequently during the day.

Another way is how you feel. I haven't eaten for 13 hours and won't eat for another 6, and I'm not the slightest bit hungry or tired.

Ketostix don't really show if you're in nutritional ketosis or not, a good read on it here: https://www.reddit.com/r/keto/comments/2wsu0u/psa_when_and_how_to_use_ketostix_on_a_ketogenic/

tl;dr Ketostix only measure excess levels of acetoacetate, which is not the type of ketones that correlate with nutritional ketosis.

Just keep trucking along if you have a cheat meal or two, you'll be back on the train soon enough.

TBH I never used them and I always assumed just doing keto for at least two days would get me into ketosis. I noticed mostly because of water weight.

Amazon search "bison bars." There are several types of keto friendly bars made with bison, bacon, cranberry, etc.

If you really wanna be adventurous there protein bars made from crickets.

Alright I'm in. Today is day 1. My wife is on board too which makes this a hell of a lot easier.

Day 1's food:

Breakfast:
2 eggs, 1 tbsp butter, 1 tbsp heavy cream, 2.5 slices bacon. (scrambled eggs & bacon)

Lunch:
15 slices pepperoni, 5 Brazil nuts

Dinner:
2 Hebrew National Hot Dogs, Stadium Mustard, 1 large hass avocado, Tapatio hot sauce, kosher salt

Snacks:
Better than Bouillon Chicken Broth, 2 links smokies jerky, 3 Squares 70% dark chocolate

Total:
1,562 Calories, 21 Net Carbs, 132g fat, 61g protein, 17g fiber.

How is that?

I picked up some B-Up bars at GNC. Really enjoying them. I love quest bars but they tend to make me crave sweets, they don't kick me out of ketosis or anything, but they make me feel like I did. B-Up Bar was the first I've eaten where I was satiated by one. Similar macros to quest, thicker, fluffier bars. Picked up the sugar cookie and cookie dough but definitely preferred the Sugar cookie to chocolate.

Another bar I want to try is the OhYeah! One bars. Higher in calories but also higher in fat and with only 1-2 net carbs. Theres a multipack for $25 that I want to try. I'll let y'all know how it is.

I'm not an expert... I'm an off and on LCHF dieter, but I've lost a lot of weight doing it and kept it off. I feel like that's a really low calorie count, which definitely wouldn't fly with me the first couple weeks of keto dieting. \

I basically have to pig out on super low carb foods in order to maintain my sanity lol... then I eventually just get less and less hungry, and smaller portions make feel full and everything falls into place and the weight melts away.

It's funny you should mention that. I was going great yesterday on day one, meh last night and crap today. I have always struggled with hunger but today felt like I was literally starving. After reading many sources saying what you are, I am a lot more relaxed today and only counting carbs. I may have some dark chocolate to combat the sugar cravings and stay in my carb limits.

I am doing the Keto thing, and according to MyFitnessPal (highly recommended!) I have lost 9.7 kg in 29 days! Now i did start at 120.2 kg so I still have a long way to go but I am pretty happy with this low carb diet.

Cheers

Get on the mantra, make sure you have enough protein, limit carbs and fat to satiety.

After the initial hump, my first couple weeks on keto I was doing an average of 1400~ calories according to MFP. We were ridiculously busy at work and I simply wasn't hungry. By the time I did get hunger pangs I downed some water thinking I was better off waiting until dinner. Nowadays I'm only really having lunch because I want a break from work.

Are you drinking enough broth/getting sodium electrolytes/drinking water? I chug water like a beast. It helps my energy a ton and overall crappy feelings by miles.

For electrolytes and vitamin b I've been drinking Mio flavored water constantly (I currently have shingles :( :( :( and vitamin b helps with the pain).

I'm looking forward to reduced appetite. I've always been a big eater usually at 3,000-5,000 a day and then I hit my late 20's and it all caught up with me.

My calories have naturally been pretty good so far but I had two plain, bunless baconators last night which added like 1,400 in 10 minutes.

I am getting enough sodium, and I am getting potassium from meat and I eat about 1 avocado a day. It's magnesium I really am not sure about and MFP doesn't seem to track it. I am also drinking a lot. I washed a lemon and cut it up then juiced it into a half gallon of water and threw the peel/rinds in too. It was a lot stronger than I imagined and I don't drink it often. One or two glasses a day but it really is refreshing and cuts the fat in what I am eating really well.

How many net carbs a day do you all eat, and is it the same you had the first few weeks? I've been on this for four full days not and my net carbs so far have been 21,14,18,and 19. So far I've lost 5 lbs. I know most or all of it is water weight but it still feels nice and let's me know I'm doing something right since losing that is the first step.

I am eating between 20 and 40 net Carbs per day. I am also restricting my daily calorie intake to 1530 calories, before exercise. I have been reviewing my 30-day food diary in MFP to see where I can reduce, so I am now usually closer to 20 than 40. This is before my nightly alcoholic drink.

I am at a point where I can confidently have one or two gin & sodas and a lime with my wife every night, knowing it will still work with my low carb diet. Those damn little limes add 3 carbs each! This is OK as long as my food net carbs are at or below 30 carbs otherwise no drink for me!

Much of my diet and weight loss is possible simply because I also go for a daily 60 to 70 minute walk. Without that exercise, my food and drink intake must be drastically reduced.

I weighed 109.4 kg on my scale this morning, down from 120 kg 30-days past.

Cheers

Thanks and congratulations on the weight loss.

I had a delicious day. The weather was great so for dinner we ate outside on the deck where I grilled Hebrew National Jumbo Hot Dogs, Johnsonville Grillers, and Chicken thighs. I just got an iGrill 2 at Sam's Club for $40 (normally $100) so I put the food on the indirect side of the grill with one thermometer probe in each type of food and enjoyed my salad with my family as they got up to temperature. I finished them over the direct side and brought them to the table as they were ready. It was so much easier than having to babysit my grill. Grilling and Keto seem to go hand in hand and I'll miss it come winter.

For Dessert I made this mousse. When I added the ingrediants to MFP it came up a little different but still close. I used Truvia as the sweetener and I honestly don't think I could tell the difference.

I don't think I will struggle to stay on this "diet."

Didn't realize Pork belly contained so much fat so I've had to cut down a lot on that going from 2 slices to 1. I've also in the last three days stopped having butter as I got really sick of it and reduced my avocado intake from 1/2 a day to 1/4 to try reduce carbs further.

What I'm having now is basically, Breakfast: 1 Shoulder Bacon, 2 Eggs, 1/4 avocado. Lunch is pretty much snack of things like laughing cow cheese and chorizo(might stop eating this and just go full out cheese for snacks). Dinner: 2 Chicken Thigh (200 g combined including bone) on the days I decide to have chicken instead of Belly pork (140 g) for dinner.

I'm wondering that because on days I decide to have chicken instead of pork, would it have a big effect if my protein ends up higher than fat on those days? I don't think my protein intake exceeds 75 g.

... and reduced my avocado intake from 1/2 a day to 1/4 to try reduce carbs further.
I have 1/2 an avocado every day. It is only one net carb, and for me it is worth it. Lots of other great stuff in an avocado. I think my avocado would go bad if it was taking me four days to eat one.

Avocado is really nice but costs for me is another big factor and saves around 14 each week for me. I don't feel any more hungry either and it allows me to be a little more flexible in the days I decide to probably have a food that might have a bit more carb. For me, the avocado's still really good during 4 days if I wrap it up and refrigerate it.

Hey guys! Recently subscribed to Keto Delivered! As great KetoKrate sounds, I'm not interested in snack deliveries, but more in discovering new ingredients/brands. I'll post reviews and pics when this month's package is delivered :)

Edit: Had a major crash this week and getting back into ketosis. Considering doing a fat fast starting tomorrow through the memorial day weekend. I was doing it today but ended up having two protein bars for lunch.

Tried the OhYeah! One Birthday Cake bar. It tastes exactly like an italian cookie. Pretty good but the sugar alcohol makes me wary. Will probably only buy it occasionally.

Still loving B-Up Bars. They are extremely high in fiber and low sugar alcohol content. Fluffy and feels like I actually ate a meal. Other bars like quest end up triggering my sweet tooth.

gotta start keeping track of my calories intake and calculate how much I need, BMI is down to 17.0 and that's low enough. Time to hit the gym, I wish gaining strenght would be as simple for me

Guys I feel really bad for cheating tonight. Ended up snacking on a few fries offhandedly at the movies. I mean it was not a lot but still :/. Hopefully it was not enough to knock me right out of all my progress.

I'm 5'10" 176 pounds, muscular and lean but my BMI is 24 something. I actually have to tone down my strength training cuz at my age (41) I can get muscular real quick. I remember being in my 20s and no amount of lifting or protein got me muscular.

Wouldn't be too fussed about your protein intake unless you're consistently doing something like 2-3x more protein than fat over a few days.

Had a pretty big bender last weekend for a mates bucks, 2 days of drinking and eating the dirtiest I've eaten since the beginning of the year. I checked the scales and came out pretty unscathed, only put on an extra kilo which would have been water weight. Very happy about that.

I pretty much ignore my keto diet when it comes to special events -birthdays, big night out, ... etc. I don't want to become "that guy". While I need to lose weight I still need to enjoy life with my family and friends. The next day, I jump back in to the keto diet and get my net carbs down to hopefully below 30 again. I am still losing weight, just not every day.

Yesterday was a tough day. We had a celebration for a coworkers wedding in the office, strawberries, bagels and champagne. It's a small department at a university so it was a little awkward to be the only one not eating at the table.

Then they had free lunch for graduation.

Managed to avoid it all and finally starting now to get the energy back that I was lacking from getting out of ketosis. Today I had cream cheese pancakes but was out of flaxseed and made the mistake of using coconut flor mixed with almond. Was way better too dry and thick.

Does anyone have any good coconut flour recipes? The only thing I've liked with it is as coconut macaroons. I may try using it to bread zucchini or something, but for the most part I much prefer flaxseed and almond flour mixed together for my breads.

Costco has their own brand of protein bars now, with similar macros to Quest/others. They're cheaper if you buy them in-store (at least where I live); only 90 cents a bar there.

I'm not sure I want to tempt fate by allowing something sweet back into my diet, but these might be exactly what my wife and daugther would need to take the edge off of their keto flu.
