Any chance on 60fps @ 1080p with my machine?

i5 3570k
16gb ram
amd 270x 2gb

don't care for eyecandy so much, but I wouldn't enjoy it with a fluctuating framerate at rain.
I almost have the same PC as you, i ended buying the PS4 version, AMD cards sucks with this game. :(.

You'll need to turn a lot of settings down, switch AA to off and use FXAA or SMAA on one of the lower settings.

Wouldn't guarantee 60fps in the rain but you might be able to get near enough with a lot of tweaking and keeping the grid size to below 20.

EDIT: oh yeh AMD... Get an Nvidia card and you would be ok...

My pit strategies, like my button assignment for my wheel, don't see to save properly.

Is there a user guide for all the detailed options and variables in the game?

I noticed that my Button Assignments and configuration wasn't saving for me (on PC). I found it wouldn't save if i hit B on the controller, but did if i hit the "<" in the top left of the screen with the mouse (comes up with a saving icon in the bottom right after clicking).

Do we have a GAF group for online races yet?

I'm only using my controller for the moment but would still like to get involved!

Well damn, decided against an GTX 670 at the same price, because I could order the 270X refurbished from a seller.
How long til a patch from AMD will be released?

Quick straw poll: ignoring the performance issues it can introduce, does anyone actually enjoy racing in the wet? I'm finding it to be a bit of a pain in the ass in career races, to be honest. I'm never sure whether to pit for wets or intermediates, or whether pitting is even necessary. Some advice from the engineer along the lines of "light rain, shouldn't last more than a lap or two, stay out there on your slicks but take it steady" or "box box box for full wets, heavy rain is forecast for the rest of the race" would be useful. It seems a bit hit-and-miss at the moment. Plus, I don't think the rain effects look particularly good on console. If I could I'd disable them completely, I think.

I thought i would enjoy, but learning to brake without ABS has been a pain. I have a bad set of pedals (G25) so in other sims it was the one thing i usually left it as training wheels.

After reading the Stig and Nic talking so much about realistic braking i've decided to try to run without ABS in this game but the results are pretty much hit and miss. In the rain the AI can always brake way later than me.

Guess i'll have to play with the settings a lot.

Also, the fourth gear on M1 Procar is a nightmare, it never engages. I've found out that it's best to shift without lifting off... which is supposed to be a mistake... anyone else having issues with this car? (mostly in the challenge, at Monza).

some people here on GAF put together a few races last night...I don't know if there is an official league or anything but people are free to make their own room and put up the name and password for others to join

ah you can add ghosts when you go to time trial instead via drivers network / challenges.

I'm very interested in this game. How does it compare to Assetto Corsa? Are the physics that different? I'm used to Gran Turismo and Assetto Corsa is the most sim like racing game i've played on PC so far. How would it run on a 780? Is there dynamic night/day and rain/snow? And lastly, is there rallying and a large selection of cars? I remember there being a huge uproar about some modders ripping forza models and selling them as assetto corsa/project cars beta(?) mods off their site. Thanks!

I have his CPU, 8 GB of ram and a GTX 670. The majority of my settings are are high with a few Ultra. Lower AA but overall it's running really well, including in the rain.

I have no clue how my GPU stacks up to his, though.

so far enjoying the game!
wish I could afford a good wheel, but the DS4 will have to do for now. :(
any groups forming on PC, i'd be in, steam account anton_668
or just add me for ghosts and such - warning, am not the greatest! lol
was also worried how my machine would handle it, but so far so good!
I7 3770
8 GB ram
AMD 7950 (should be even better once the new drivers arrive)

Just had the most hilarious moment online.

Me and a lot of people (mostly German) trying to navigate Caldwell Park in a mixture of Formula A's and other extremely powerful cars. No one seemingly knew the track very well resulting in everyone just slamming into a wall and a lot of swearing in a foreign language.

Really really liking this game.

SMS have a real franchise here.

You are all absolutely killing me. I don't have a PC remotely close to being able to play this, so will resort to my PS4. However, the fact that I reside in NA means I have to wait until at least Tuesday to play, meaning I'll be spending the next 3 days pining over how badly I want to get out onto the tracks. At least I have an F1 race this weekend to keep me moderately distracted.

Awesome stories / feedback so far, keep 'em coming.

If anyone is playing this at 21:9/ultrawidescreen, what FoV settings are you at?

Default is 80---I bumped it up to 100 across the board except for Cockpit view which I set at 110, and Helmet cam, which maxes out @ 101. No idea if these are right for the aspect ratio but it felt pretty good in-game at least. If anybody has more accurate settings, I'd appreciate it.

^ Weird, my helmet cam maxes out at something much lower like 85 :S Maybe the different aspect ratio allows for higher settings.

hey hey, you're making me look like an idiot. hehe

at least I got the 'pristine paintwork' achievement during those races!

I dunno man, I thought you did pretty well for the speedy come back and that dodge afterwards when we both went off after the straight, that was pretty slick. Definitely earned the achievement. Unlike me haha came rolling on down.

Anyone know if it's possible to assign functions to a keyboard on PS4?

Keyboard seems to work in the menus and ingame you can enter pause menu (esc), pause without menu (p) and take screenshots (prt scrn).

When trying to bind a key I get "multiple inputs detected, no function assigned". I'm wondering if it's my keyboard that's at fault or is the full support coming in a future patch..

+1 was talking to a friend that has PCars and he rattled off a shitload of controller bindings and my wireless keyboard instantly cane to mind.

Right now we simply don't know, i can barely run the game with an R9 280x. There are issues right now that are likely driver related and it is being looked into, the issues cause severe under performance for AMD cards (some benchmarks show 660Ti's beating R9 290's) - hopefully soon we will get new drivers to fix it and we will know how it is actually meant to perform on AMD cards.

I would say to any AMD GPU owner on the fence with regards to a purchase, hold off on buying it at the moment due to the issues with AMD cards as its just not worth the purchase until its fixed.

People with 970s, what AA settings are you using?

See my previous post, I have an i5 3.5 ghz and a GTX 970. The higher AA settings really dive FPS. So I went with low settings and mixed in a little DSR with smoothing.

If you are down sampling to 1080p, try upping the smoothing, it helps (I have mine at 50)

Res 2351 x 1323 (down to 1080p)
AA= MSAA
FXAA = Low
SMAA = Off

Anyone else currently driving the Formula Rookie car in Career?

Is the gearing supposed to skip like it does? Goes from 1st to 3rd, 4th to 2nd, etc.

Tried to research the specific gearbox of this car but I can't find any information on it.

I'm not actually German haha, I think I was the only person who wasn't!

I'd add you but I'm only on Ps4 for this I'm afraid!

Just had another amazing online moment. Formula Gulf round Brands Hatch, setting fastest laps all through the race and catching up from the back of the field. About to take 6th place on the penultimate lap and somehow interlock with another car and get completely flipped.

Ah fair enough! This is the only real thing that matters to me. Are there any problems with the build quality with the standard T3PA pedals being made mainly of plastic?

It's not the build quality it's the brake pedal. In fact the t3pa is basicly the same pedals with the additional clutch pedal. The brake mod makes all the difference because it offers rock solid resistance. There is almost no resistance on the pedal so over braking is a common occurrence. If you play with abs off it will ruin you.

You can also throw some real pedals on there for fun

Does this game have a drift mode or something?
No separate one, but just take the 1M out with default settings is enough. There's a learning curve for drifting just like in real life, but it's certainly doable and locking the diff will help even more if you want to just drift around. The Lykan Hypersport is a nice car for sliding around too.

Am the biggest GT fanboy in the world and I want every racing game to be awesome. Fuck, I want every game to be awesome!

Also for those having FFB issues knock the FFB strength down to and turn tire force in FFB Calibration up to 170

I'm all for positive opinions, but they completely glossed over all the technical issues with the game.

Well so have most other reviews. The core game is just that good that in most instances it doesn't really matter, especially considering they mostly only pop up in extreme conditions (full grid, wet weather, night) that aren't common throughout the career mode.

Plus if you are serious about racing games you owe it to yourself to build a capable PC and get it on there.

that's unfortunate.
Missed opportunity, good to know about physics.
I should be able to adapt easily then (if it is like real life)

Forza and GT fanboys who were rooting for this game to fail can eat shit.

The game is fantastic. I'm having a blast so far.

I dont think many were rooting for it to fail, just questioning if the studio could pull off something decent after the shift games.

They wanted to make this when they were developing the shift games.

Then EA got involved, made them gut it, dumb it down and add bullshit in. Then we ended up with Shift... EA didn't think there was any appetite in the market for a game like this and felt it wouldn't have a wide enough appeal to sell well.

Hence they broke away and decided to make the game they wanted using crowdfunding.

Anybody have issues getting times to record on the leaderboards on PS4? Doing clean laps, legit times against ghosts but the times just aren't registering.

Yeah, I think it's just something that doesn't fit the core vision and as a lot of people (outside and inside the dev forums) have felt that drifting events aren't "real racing motorsport" and it's not something that's really a part of most drivers' racing career, but it has always remained a possiblity for DLC and/or sequels. I do like drifting and I think the game is pretty good for it, but there's not competition aspect to it.

Right, just booting this up on PS4 for the first time. If the default controls are dogshit, what do I need to change them to?

I know the story, I'm saying you shouldn't interpret people's trepidation as desire for the game to fail.
