New York Times said:
CHICAGO — Federal prosecutors on Friday for the first time provided details of sexual abuse allegations against J. Dennis Hastert, the former speaker of the House, asserting that he molested at least four boys, as young as 14, when he worked as a high school wrestling coach decades ago.

Mr. Hastert, 74, is not charged with the incidents of abuse because of statutes of limitation, prosecutors said, but he was accused last year of illegally structuring bank withdrawals for money he was paying to one of his victims in an effort to hide the abuse. He pleaded guilty in October to the banking violation, and suffered a stroke in November while awaiting sentencing, now set for later this month.

According to a court filing by prosecutors late Friday laying out their sentencing considerations, Mr. Hastert, a popular coach in a small Illinois town in the 1960s, 1970s and 1980s, gave one boy a massage in the locker room, then performed an unspecified sex act on him. Another boy, Stephen Reinboldt, who died in 1995, was sexually abused by Mr. Hastert throughout high school in the late 1960s and early 1970s, his sister and others told the prosecutors. And prosecutors said Mr. Hastert had massaged another boy’s groin area after asking the boy to stay in his hotel room during a wrestling camp.

I think I'm going to throw up. That is so sickening. An egregious abuse of authority as well as exploitation of a minor.

$3.5 million in hush money.

AP said:
CHICAGO (AP) — Dennis Hastert agreed to pay $3.5 million to a person the former House speaker sexually abused when the victim was a 14-year-old wrestler on a team coached by Hastert, prosecutors said in a court filing Friday that details allegations by five former students.

The filing is the first time prosecutors have confirmed Hastert paid hush-money to conceal sex abuse. It chronicles a chain of deception that began with Hastert exploiting his position of trust as a teacher and coach and carried on years later to include lying to bank officials and making false claims of extortion to the FBI to conceal his wrongdoing.

I'm only 28, but as I recall, didn't this piece of shit pretty much take the reigns of the impeachment proceedings (which I guess would be expected of any majority leader) against Clinton?

He was 3rd in line to the presidency.

It went Bush, Cheney, this scumbag. Those were the people leading the country.

So the president creates torture camps, the vice president shoots a guy in the face, and the speaker of the house molests little boys.

... Quite the lineup.

Fuck this guy. I can't believe he's going to get away with this.

I know there is the banking stuff but that's not enough.

What a piece of shit.

Its honestly despicable how high an office this man was in the US and hes pretty much getting away with it. He should have never been able to get so far doing shit like that. Freaking disgusting.

This guy was speaker while the page scandal was going on. I wonder if he was involved with that.

There was a significant amount of evidence that he was given information about what was going on with Foley well in advance of when that news went public and had made assurances to people that things had been taken care of when no such thing had been done.

To be fair the Vice President also created an illegal war that ruined significant portions of the economy and global security for decades to profit his company. Oh and it killed hundreds of thousands of people.

Fucker got away with this for so long that he's going to get off real easy on the banking violations because he's old and in poor health, and he already escaped all the statute of limitations for the abuse. There's never any justice.

Just another Republican hero.

Frankly at this point I hope he just dies and saves his victims having to testify.
He's not being charged on the abuse. He successfully kept all of it a secret until after the statute of limitations were up. He's being charged with banking violations regarding the way he was withdrawing money to pay one of the victims hush money. And he's pled guilty.

It's just sentencing now. Prosecutors are only recommending 6 months in prison. Defense is asking for just probation due to his age and health. The judge can decide to go nuts and give him up to five years in prison, but it seems everyone agrees he's likely only going to get a slap on the wrist.

One of the victims is deceased, I believe his sister is going to speak at sentencing, but it sounds like the only way the abuse really gets brought into it any more than confirming the allegations will be if the defense gets too high and mighty trying to tout Hastert's *ahem* public service.

So why can't the state legislature change the law tomorrow on the limitations and then fuck this guy?

Gross

Six months. Six fucking months.

I knew Hastert was an asshole, but I guess he was a monster, too.

Statute of limitations on child sexual abuse shouldn't exist. It's shameful that in this case, like in so many others, a monster will avoid his punishment because of them.

When the news broke out I had a feeling something like this was coming. Didn't think it would be that pervasive.

What a disgusting man.

Seriously.

The victims will have it marked on their psyche for the rest of their lives, so it's only fitting that the perpetrator should fear losing their freedom for all of theirs.
