PS+ Games no longer tied to subscription(Keep them forever) - EU - Probable Error

For some reason, the Instant Game Collection list hasn't been updated yet on the Dutch store, but I was able to manually find and "buy" The Hungry Horde, Spelunky, Steamworld Dig, Luftrausers and Synapse Prime. No expiration date here.

I downloaded Spelunky this morning and it has no expiration date (it's listed as a service). Same for this months PS+ stuff. All my older stuff expires 05/12/14.

It'll be an error.

Spelunky is the one I didn't get as I already own it.

Games from this month are without date as reported, sorry for the fuckup. Where is binding of isaac tho?

Can't be intentional. Otherwise you could just buy a month's subscription anytime they offer a free game you want, rather than paying the game's full price.

Games as services?

By the way, the title really needs a question mark until this is officially confirmed.

Belgian store still has the dates.

No expiration date for me either (only with this month's game and I didn't pick up Spelunky last month)

I'm from France btw.

It's impossible they are offering free games forever. I mean, with Injustice and Second Light incoming, that would mean killing any other sale for those titles.

The wording is:

I'm thinking it can be just very poorly worded way of saying "you'll keep it forever (if you're a Playstation Plus Member)".

Keep hype low until they say something officially.

This would be my guess as well.

Has someone tried poking Sony? This is very strange without a big ass announcement because if true this is pretty important and wouldn't be quietly passed without marketing.

This is what MS was doing on the 360 (and still is I believe).

I wonder why Sony is making this move now, for marketing purposes or for legal reasons in the EU?

edit: or it's a screw up.

That makes more sense given this is the kind of announcement you make, not just do stealthily.

Yea that's not gonna happen, if you want games that will stay forever be ready for a massive drop in quality, you wont get new indie games like they are giving up now, and it will only happen in a couple of years so in 2017 you will finally get to play Killzone:SF, it's really not worth it and the current system is the best.

I can confirm the same for the german store, no expiration date for the new ps plus titles from this month! The old titles from the previous months still have an expiration date though...

I doubt they would officially do this without having a big public announcement about it first. It definitely seems like a mistake but hopefully not.

Guys its not policy update, its a mistake.

Its just for the people who have already downloaded it, Sony probably will still honor it.

I wouldnt make too much fuss about it if I were you.

If this turns out to just be for Europe for legal purposes and all Plus members get to keep and play their games forever without a subscription, the salt will rain HARD here in the USA.

Cant remember but what happens if you miss renewing for a few days lets say, when you resub they all come back without needing to redownload right(unless you delete them yourselves lol)...?

RIP in peace PS Rental service.

/s

Nice change if it is indeed permanent.

Don't forget, Sony can see just how many people actually add these games to their download list. They'll know how many copies are actually being kept.

Would be nice if that's the case, that part would be on par with Xbox Live's Games with Gold, since you can keep those games after a subscription ends.

Except that XBL Games with Gold doesn't work that way. Those games go away when your XBL Gold account expires.

If this isn't a mistake or a glitch on Sony's part, this is a pretty big deal.

I believe this will be part of the service.

If you come to think about it, you will still update your ps+ subscription due to MP. This is only "valuable" to PS3 users, who can stop paying and keep all of their previous games (If they update the full list). How many of you are still playing games offered on Ps+ last year or so ?

Its still a nice feature, and increases the value.

I've reached out to my contacts at the MVP program and I'll let you know if I hear anything back. My guess is this is a glitch but the line about keeping it forever is hard to explain though.

This is my thinking also. It's just poorly worded imo

I'm going with a screw up, or someone's finger slipped and they were meant to announce it in Las Vegas. Screw up either way.

But what about it?

Still probably a mistake.

Like I said, the games are listed as services, this smells of a rookie mistake, especailly as they haven't updated the store front properly yet.

I think until the store is fuly updated, chalk this one up to a bit of good luck and dont read into it further.

Description: "If you’re a PlayStation®Plus member, you can download this item at no extra cost and keep it forever."

But...

5. Once the game has downloaded, you'll be ready to install and play. Remember, it’s yours to keep until your PlayStation Plus membership ends.

My guess is they used the description that is used for permanent items like avatars/ themes by accident.

Having re-read the description this is my view also.

Would have been great if true but it does seem like a mistake/ miscommunication to me.

Still seems strange to take off exp dates though.

I know some are already doing it but it might be a good idea if everybody was posting the country when they're saying whether it has happened or not.

Pretty cool if true. I'm not planning to ditch PS+ any time soon, but it's still great considering all the great games they've offered since it all started.

Not sure of its due to the cross buy nature of it, but In the information section of my spelunky vita download there's no expiration date.
