Valkyrie Profile 2 I'm guessing. Lenneth is the PSP port of 1.

Anyways damn thats a backlog for the ages my friend!

ChainDive got here! The swap discs didn't yet. Fuck it, i'm doing the sketchy hot swap technique.

is kings field PS2 worth getting

PS2 thread exists? Never knew.

I actually own a sealed copy of Valkyrie Profile 2. Probably the only sealed game I own atm.

Since this is a PS2 thread, can someone point me to a modchip for the latest PS2 slim that runs multi region games for both PS2 and PS1 games? The one I currently have only runs multi region PS2 games, but not PS1 games. Also, is it hard to unsolder and resolder the new chip in?

Thanks =D

what are some cool ps2 games that are like no more than 3-5 hours long, basically something i could start and finish in an afternoon

in my old ass age of 26 i find it hard to find the time or patience to even get through something 10 hours long anymore and most of my library is stuff i bought back in high school when i was a geek with nothing better to do (aka fuckton of rpgs)

Honestly? Probably not that many unless its just a classic shooter or maybe a platformer that isnt Jak,Ratchet,or Sly. Even Maximo and Mark of Kri would probably take a bit.

Honestly, PS2 has some of the best RPGs still...so you probably could find time to pop a few hours into one every so often.

Space Channel 5 Special Edition isn't that long. Unless you suck. Maybe Stretch Panic? Mobile Light Force 2, lol?

But seriously, any game worth is a shit is around 5-10 hours long during the PS2 gen.

Seems like no one knows anything about modchips here, huh?

Try both GunGrave, and GunGrave Overdose. The first one can be beaten in 20 minutes (lol), and the second one is about 2 and a half hours long. I prefer the second game more, as it has more interesting stages, and better mechanics.

Sega put out awesome arcade games for the Dreamcast that were pretty short that gen. Short games don't suck, I hate how that mentality has taken over even to today.

I agree that short games don't suck, but I can't think of many on the PS2. The short games are all around 5-10 hours for a first time playthrough.

I did mention a Dreamcast port and could have mentioned others like Rez, 18 Wheeler American Pro Trucker and Crazy Taxi, but decided to make a general statement about PS2 games that I stand by.

He can also go for old arcade collections like those by Taito or old console game collections like the Mega Man and Metal Slug collections, but again these aren't really PS2 era games.

i know there's a bunch of them for ps2, they're just not coming to me. The Bouncer was what immediately came to mind

Contra: Shattered Soldier
Gitaroo Man
Parappa 2
Dragon Quest VIII
Gradius V
Espgaluda
Dodonpachi Daioujou
Psyvariar 2
Metal Slug 6

All are really short.

Was Metal Slug 6 ever released separately at US retail? I have the anthology but 6 unfortunately it crashes on my cecheo1 ps3 :(

No, it wasn't -- the standalone release was the Japan-only PS2 release. And, incidentally, that's also the best version of the game. The anthology version was a pretty shoddy translation of the original.

Thought you guys might like this PS2 I picked up. I imagine it is running retail firmware, but I would be happy if it ran debug/test. Some stickers were obviously removed from the top, but I imagine those were price stickers or something since the main one was left. No model sticker to tell me what version it is, need to find my power supply at my parents house...

The Xbox stuff is cool, but if you can get a whole bunch of PS2 internal stuff...that'd be even cooler. :)

I only pick up random PS2 stuff when it is cheap, not really my thing. I have my debug unit, and now this, and a handful of prototypes. The only Sony item I really want is the early PS1 controller prototype that looks more like a SNES controller (rumored to be a SNES CD controller, but it wasn't).

So, what's all this about ELF loader and crap like that? I have swap magic discs and I guess I can make a special mem card from that? Will this allow me to play PS2 and PS1 imports without swapping? (pics of said imports can be shown if necessary.) Any help on this would be much appreciated cause swapping is annoying (and dangerous with ps1 games since you have to rip them straight out while they're spinning.)

edit: for anyone wondering, apparently the answer is no, from what i've read, just allows playing of games off mass storage devices. or you can run the swap magic bootable, but still need a regular game and import, making it pointless as the drive will need to spin twice either way.

Fair enough. That controller would be a hell of a find!

I'm trying to get Drakengard 2 complete for a decent price but ebay prices are way too steep for a game thats not even very good lol.

Must be that Drakengard 3 hype. Wasn't 2 cut down a lot in the west though?

Yes Drakengard 3 hype= exorbitant price. And I'm suffering the hype as well lol, already preordered the CE for 3.

And yes Drakengard 1 and 2 were both substantially "cut" /butchered in their localization but still...gotta play em at least once even if they are notoriously rubbish designed games.

Wow, I didn't realize complete copies are going for that much ($30-$40). Makes me consider selling mine, haha.

What the hell????

This figure pictured below the set is the one thats jn the first photo??

WHAT IN THE GODDAMN FUCK KILL IT WITH FIRE

ah, i see some are unfamiliar with Mok-kos. after a little more snooping, that is the figure that comes with that set, but I have given up on buying it, since $200 is not worth something to giggle at on my desk. Although if someone in japan would be able to find one for me, i'd still pay too much for it.

It was a meme on 2ch around the time it came out. It epitomizes my hatred for Xenosaga 2

like so:

Contra: Shattered Soldier
Gitaroo Man
Parappa 2
Dragon Quest VIII
Gradius V
Espgaluda
Dodonpachi Daioujou
Psyvariar 2
Metal Slug 6

All are really short.

LIES! ALL LIES!!!!!!Contra, Gradius, and the other arcade games take a looooooooooong time to finish. Shattered Soldiers made me really really angry as a kid. Extremely hard game to simply finish.

Mos-Kos is awesome. I completely forgot about it.

Why the hell did Drakengard become so expensive? Both games were $15 almost a month ago. Really regret not picking them up up.

Drakengard the original is still pretty cheap last time I checked (like a little more than $10) but yeah the release of Drakengard 3 incredulous price hikes for 2. Thanks to Bii here he sold me his copy I manged at a more than fair price.
Forever thanks!

Has anyone gotten _really_ into Devil May Cry? Specifically, the first game? I have tried for years to sink my teeth into it without much luck (mainly because it kicked my ass) but on a whim, I bought the HD collection for my 360- and I have over 30 hours in to just DMC1 alone. What a _fantastic_ game. Yeah, the camera is a pain, but the environments...the combat...the enemy variation...I mean this whole game is an experience I don't think I've had anywhere. I'm simply not tiring of it. Once I get the achievements I'm looking for, I plan on going through the original (and that cursed triangle jump, lol) on the PS2.

Anyways, just wondered if anyone has a similar love affair with the game.

YES!!!! This was my first action game and first game I played on PS2 when I bought one in 2001. Holy shit I fell in love with this game right away. The scenery, environment and enemies were beyond mind blowing at the time. It's hands down my favorite game of all time! Of all time!.

I've played for probably hundreds of hours since 2001, completing all difficulties.
Such a fantastic game. I have the HD collection as well, but haven't played through it again, as began playing part 3 right away, just for the feels.

DMC1 and 3 are two of my favorite games from that generation. I remember dying a lot against Phantom on my first playthrough.

DMC1 is my favorite of the franchise still. I loved that dark atmosphere as opposed to the funny, self-parodical tone of 3 or 4.

Agreed. It was actually playing DMC3 that got me to give the HD collection a shot, but the tone and atmosphere of the first game is so unique and it just keeps me coming back. I've conquered normal and hard, and got about 1/3 through DMD before starting a new normal playthrough (every time through the game improves my skills, that combined with Joch1's videos on youtube will get me through DMD eventually).

For me, it also fully cements something I have long felt most of gen 7- that Gen 6 was simply the best gen for modern gaming. These HD remakes keep me far more entertained than most, if not all, current offerings.

I would say it's superior to the Super Nintendo, because it nailed a wider variety of genres.

But then again, less genres existed in the 16-bit era

I still wish Capcom hadnt run Lost Planet into the ground. Had the opportunity to be another great original Capcom franchise. At least Dead Rising made it out unscathed...maybe I should be glad they havent done anything with Onimusha recently.

So I'll be running my PS2 out of an arcade cabinet for the time being - mainly for PS1 games.

Off the top of your heads, any recommended PS2 exclusive games that use just the d pad? I think I've got all the shooters and fighters covered. Maybe some run-n-guns or 2-d platformers?

finished my first playthrough of ChainDive. Not quite as good as expected, but still very fun and unique. I guess my main complaint is that there are several levels where you can just fly through without much effort. presumably, those are more for score/combo attack than speed. The physics and camera also just go nutty occasionally. It's got the heart of a good action game, but desperately needed a more fleshed out sequel.

Definitely gonna speed run it though!

here's a terribly interlaced vid:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aRJGx5MZASE

definitely gonna upload my own stuff since every vid of this game on youtube is ass

Found a game stop with ps2 games. Got 10 games and a few memory cards for $17.

probably 98% of what they have left is guitar hero and some naked brothers shit I've never heard of. At least they're somewhat nice enough to give notable games like ico their own cases instead of hidden amongst the trash.
