PS2 Emulation with PCSX2 - share your game configs!

I am new to the emulating scene so I have a few questions. I am running all my games in 2x native on the DX 10/11 setting(I forgot the name).
My system is all stock speeds
i7 920
560 ti
6 gb ram
Is it normal if ZOE is barely running in full 60 fps. It usually comes down to 50 and 40. maybe when I am still, 60 fps. Even Zoid Struggle stays around 50 fps. What are the best presets? I have it on safest at the moment(#1). I didnt change much other than GS settings. +interlacing on auto.

IIRC ZOE is one of the most intensive games to run on an emulator together with SOTC.

try increasing the VU cycle rate to 1 or 2 .

also, is there anyway to use my wireless ps3 controller with charger cable for the emulator.

Edit: Your suggestion worked FRAPS wise. I do think it is playing a lot better than before. Should I turn on MTVU (i7 920 stock)? Will MTVU help more than the VU cycle rate? Also, is the correct way of shutting down the emulator by pressing shutdown on the system tab? Will it make a difference if I shut it down by exiting or just pressing X?

if you own a quad core it is generally recommended to turn it on .

if you mean to stop playing just hit ESC .
if you mean turning it off entirely clicking X is the right way i think but i don't think it makes a difference either way.

Ok, thank you. Do you or anyone have answers for my playstation controller question?

Messing with memory sure is

So does adjusting the screen format in the bios do anything? For example, If I select 4:3 in the emulator, will I run into issues if in the ps2 bios the format is set to full or 16:9?

this has probably been addressed but I would like to put it out there for people.

If you have an AMD FX Series CPU you have to disable AMD cool and Quiet otherwise your framerate will tank randomly into the low 20's or less as the CPU underclocks itself to save power.

trying to get shin megaten: nocturne working, it runs perfectly fine and looks good on stills but on motion the ghosting/blur is really making me nauseous.

any ideas?

Change your deinterlace options from blend to literally anything else. Also, doesn't that look stretched?

thanks, unfortunately none of the deinterlace options make much of a difference. also yeah, it was stretched and fixed it and now everyone looks so skinny lol

I can confirm that the following poster's trick works just fine for tricking a Windows PC into accepting a wired DS3/Sixaxis.

Yes, that is what I use. Very good. Motionjoy does not work on my pc.
What does EE Cycle and VU Cycle actually do to the game? I know it helps me increase frames in many games but what is it doing that wasn't happening before using these hacks?

I'm using v1.0.0 (r5435)

shadows are also wonky but I don't mind

lol
The ghosting is an intentional effect rather than an emulation problem unfortunately. Although you might be able to get rid of it using the skipdraw hack in GSDX, looking back in the thread it seems that some people had success setting skipdraw to 1.

hmm, maybe I'm not doing it right but I don't see any difference with it

I might have to play the game from a distance or something, it really makes me dizzy lol

Hey, guys, I run this on Windows, but I thought I'd inquire about the Mac version since I'm about to get an Air (standard 2013 config w/ 8GB RAM).
How well does it run? As well as the Windows version? Will I run into any issues? Thanks!

Also here's a video I recorded of what the game looks like running in 60FPS, the file is over 900MB but it's so worth it just to see how much better the game looks running in it. I really hope they make the KH2.5 HD collection run at 60FPS

(Don't bother trying to click play on the video player in that link because it's only gonna show 30FPS, you need to download it)

Do you think you can post a guide on what you did to make it look that good?

If that's directed at me, do you mean just the way to make the colors look more vivid... if so it's very simple.

In PCSX2 just click on Config - Video(GS) - Plugin Settings.

Then enable the shade boot feature and click on the settings next to that to adjust the colors, my settings are... Saturation 70, Brightness 55, and Contrast 60. That should make every game look less dull now and much more vibrant

Playing FFXII (International, but I doubt it makes a difference). Works really well with the default settings, but I have issues occasionally with polygons in the environment disappearing at certain camera angles or with enemies in certain places. The texture on them just turns black.

Wondering if there's something that will fix that or if it's just inherently a problem with PCSX2 and/or this game. It's not something I've had a problem with in Dolphin.

Did you make sure you're playing in D3D9 mode? D3D11 mode is buggy.

Just wanted to make two comments on this.

If you're going to compare 4:3 to 16:9 - you shouldn't do the 4:3 one stretched. I fixed up the Aspect Ratio for ya below.

Second, personally, I think your shadeboost is making stuff look a bit too overblown. I'd dial it back a bit.

As long as we're posting KH screenshots, here are some I've taken.

I believe those blur trails are also present on the PS2 so it might be a limitation of the engine they used and therefore not fixable .

Ugh, this might explain my problems with Digital Devil Saga. I always think there is something wrong with it, even without speed hacks and 60FPS.

Can I run PCSX2 on a 2Ghz Quad-core with 3 GB of RAM, and that has a GeForce 8500GT?

It really depends on the game. Some games are more compatible than others, because some games got more effort put in to them to make them compatible.

Like one of the primary coders on this is a big JRPG fan, so all of the Final Fantasies run full speed for me, and my specs are

3.1ghz Core 2 Duo
2gb of DDR2 RAM
ATi Radeon HD 5670

But I can only run MGS3 at like, 10fps. Same goes for the DBZ Budokai games, most platformers (Jak & Daxter, Ratchet, etc.)

Apologies for the bump, but I'm having an FPS issue. For some reason, all of my games are only capping at 30FPS. Here's my setups:

Everything is running natively, now. My specs are as follows:

NVIDIA GeForce GT 650m
Intel Core i5 @2.5GHz
8GB RAM

If there's anything else I need listed, please tell me. The games I'm trying to run are CvS2, KH2Final Mix and Ape Escape 3.

Does anyone know why FFXII seems to crash when I have the 360 controller connected? If I don't have it connected I'm just stuck on the screen telling you to connect a dualshock 2 controller. Then it crashes after I connect the 360 controller.

Dragon Quest VIII is supposed to be one of the more GPU-demanding games to emulate, correct? For some odd reason, certain story-connected, in-game dialogues slow it down quite a bit even though it runs at full speed otherwise. It only seems to become an issue when text appears on the screen in those situations. Anyone know why that is (why those specific situations are more demanding I mean)? I'm just asking out of curiosity.

I don't have CvS2, Ape Escape 3 or Final Mix so I'm not sure how much this will help.
But for KH2 I have the game running great and I use these speedhack settings:

You can also try setting EE to 3 and/or VU stealing to 2/3 but it tends to make games buggy, e.g. odd frame rates (game will display 60 fps but is actually rendering at less) and sometimes bugs during cinematics.
Your cpu running at 2.5 might be an issue too though, anyway hope this helps.

Has anyone tried Urban Chaos Riot Response on PCSX2 yet ? Big fan of Rocksteadys first game (it's why I was excited for AA before it came out) and have had an inkling to play this again for ages. It's available dirt cheap as well, just trying to find out how well it runs.

not a big deal, but why doesn't full screen start automatically, even though I have the option checked off in the emulator settings? also, is there a list somewhere of games that support widescreen hacks?

All games or just FFXII? Are you able to configure your controller as a ds2 in the settings?

Does anyone use the pcsx2bonus frontend? If so, would anyone know why it doesn't work for me? When I try to add a game, nothing happens. It doesn't matter if I drag it or select it from the drop down menu.

Or does have anyone have any alternate programs that work well with steam? Like creating bootable exe files for each game and seperste configs for each game?

Im getting issues with Valkyrie Profile 2. When I get to the forest the screen gets red squares that covers most of the screen and framerate dips down. Any work around it?

Specs
Nvidia GeForce 780m 4 GDDR5
32GB of Ram
Intel Core i7-4700MQ 2.4GHz

So I recently got into FF12 again, and it doesn't seem like Steam overlay works with gsdx d3d11 mode? D3d9 and OpenGL seem to work. That's a shame.

Unless there's something I'm overlooking of course.
