Sony have been an absolute monster this generation... as I posted in a thread I just made:

By the time Xbox and Gamecube launched in the US (Nov 2001), Sony had already sold 20 million PS2s worldwide. By just over a year later (Jan 2003), it had sold 50 million!

It's now in excess of 70 or 90 million or something (I forget). So before Xbox and Gamecube even went on sale, long before they approached the 10 million or so that Dreamcast sold, Sony had doubled that amount. Within a year they had sold that much more. ALL of the momentum was theirs.

Most likely. As it propably is in most Euro countries. But it doesn`t really matter. The PS2 is as dominant here as it is in Japan.

I dont think so. That "GC is ahead of Xbox" thing was probably close to truth about two years ago but not anymore. Atleast here in Scandinavia nobody buys GC anymore. Its all about PS2 and Xbox.

From what I´ve heard, the only European country where the cube is ahead of Xbox is France.

Well, latest GfK numbers Sony gave at 08/18 showed 62%, 18.8% and 17.2% marketshare for PS2, GC and XBox respectively. With 600k GCs as a number to go by that puts us at roughly 550k XBoxen and 1,980k PS2. Furthermore Handheld market is 36% of overall market with GBA at 99.9% share putting it at 1,800k.

So numbers for Germany this gen until June 2004:

PS2: 1,980k
GC: 600k
XBox: 550k
GBA: 1,800k"

Pretty amazing PS2 sales in these months then.

From my source at MS France, Xbox is 2nd in all european countries except France and Italy. MS source so take it as you will.
