PS3 Home Official Thread

I have a feeling Home will evolve quickly now that it's open to everyone.

Maybe. But by judging the content that is there, I'm not sure they have a clue. There are many things that make MMOs like WOW popular: exploring, currency, team dynamics, customization to name just a few. Of course this is free so you cant expect the world. But so far, there is not enough area to explore. No kind of fake money or real way to make money. No real group play or dynamics besides doing the running man together randomly. And possibly the lamest avatar customization ever and a borderline worthless apartment.

I actually think its kind of cool just wandering around the center area and seeing peeps. Its like a next gen chatroom. But as long as this has been in development, I would have expected it to have expanded on it ten-fold. This shit should be at minimum like yahoo games online, with absolutely tons of shit to check out and do. Start some people with some fake cash (possibly using trophies and such to make some initial dough, or some random minigames) that I can use to pay for new items. TTOB nailed it when he said this should be like Star Wars cantina: All kinds of characters types available and walkin around (maybe some from games I have purchased). Also give me some reasons why I should join up with random people, cuz that is easily the best part of Home. Cant talk to random people on Xbox Live unless you are in a lobby in a game, and usually not for long

I should be walkin around feeling like I have just begun. Instead, i feel like in 15 minutes I have pretty much seen everything. The only reason I'd ever log in again is to fuck around in the plaza, probably just to watch people being assholes and fuckin with people trying to actually sit down and talk haha

Sounds like Home needs about 20x the content/depth it has right now.

And 200x the moderation.

No kidding, after 30 minutes in Home I've heard 'f****t' and 'n****r' more times than in the last year on Xbox Live. I finally just turned off voice entirely. There's no way I could go in there with it on and my kids awake.

Home is just as terrible as it was in the closed beta.

The two game spaces currently available are pointless. In Far Cry 2's space you can look at an overhead map of what I'm guessing is FC2's game world, but I wonder why anyone would even give a shit about looking at an in-game map while outside of the game.

Uncharted's space is a tiny bar that has just three arcade cabinets which of course are always occupied by other players. It's got a jukebox and piano -- both of which can't actually be interacted with. Basically only a handful of people can do anything interactive while the rest just stand around waiting and doing nothing. Both spaces suck and neither would actually sell anybody on the game.

if you don't like it don't use it. A lot of ppl do like it including myself and that's with not even being online with friends.

Really? You're gonna wake up tomorrow and say "Oh joy time to hop back into the Uncharted space and have a blasty blast!"? Really?

It might be fun to tinker around at the moment while it still has that new sheen (ah who am I kidding :lol ), but in the long run Home will be pretty much worthless if game launching (or video/audio sharing in apartments) doesn't take off.

Aaaaanyway, was never really hyped about Home, and since it doesn't cost me a penny I can't see me being pissed at Sony for fucking it up big time.

Home has to be one of the worst ideas and use of resources I've ever seen... I'm hoping they either change it completely or close it to never open again and use their time on something actually productive.

Could be fun to talk about the game in the space.

They really needed a game just like PSO to launch with this game.

I'm sure White Knight Chronicles could have filled this role.

Or heck, they could have actually worked with Sega to get PSO up and running?

Regardless, the lack of a big gaming activity is a problem. Content is also an issue but the game is most important.

No no no, see.. the idea itself was actually quite good. They just developed it horribly.

Was it me, with 'unlimited' resources, I'd made it like this:

- A character generator like Oblivion's (way more developed than Home's). Some NPC's around the areas to make it feel more alive and get closer to the user. It would be also a good way to explain each area of the world.
- A world more like Disney Land and with big open areas. That is, a main area (the square) with a couple streets merging there, and in those streets you would have the entrances to the different stores and they would be separated into areas, like in Disney Land, so not only the area of the game, but also the portion of the street near that area would have specific decoration (stuff hanging from trees, benches, etc..).
- An economy world. There's not much fun if everything available there is either already FREE or you have to pay REAL money. I'd add stuff you can only buy by beating minigames, exploring areas and finding stuff through the 'world'. I'd make it so you could sell stuff to other people (objects you won somehow, or found somewhere, and you don't need) obviously in exchange of fake money.
- Less realistic. Or better, not so high-poly. I'd rather have a more low-poly world with good textures (be it realistic or be it like World of Warcraft), a waaaay bigger area to explore with more people online at the same time and being able to run around, climb over things, etc.. kinda like GTAIV.

And a lot of other things. But yeah... mainly this.

Home needs a dungeon crawler.

You get a party and your trophy level determines your level, and your specific trophies give you equipment.

I should be hired at Sony

(Yes. I love Diablo/Titan Quest type games, sorry :\ )

After like 30 tries to get in HOME i finally succeeded.
Right now is pretty bare bones, next week they will add more content so its not big deal.
The potential is huge tough.

My favourite line from another user:
'Were are the bitches? This HOME shit need more bitches' :lol

What home really, really needs is for every single game to be supported with game launching and it won't because i honestly do think game developers couldn't give a rats ass about home and working it into games.
I was in the beta and was extremely dissappointed in home when i got my beta key about 10 months ago. To the point of posting on the private beta forum crying for the home developers to stop development of home straight away but to be honest it has grown on me.
I can see the potential but they are doing nothing about it.
The arcade machines need to be game like pacman CE, rez, and street fighter HD not the trash thats on there now.And get rid of the theatre, what the point have they even seen the streaming interviews and game previews from the NXE dash spotlight option?
And the keyboard lag when talking in a group is a joke.
Like people have already stated 3 FUCKING YEARS!!!!
What have they been doing?
People have been crying for cross game invites and they give us this!
The home development should be ashamed of themselves, they say this is open beta but to be honest i feel it will always rfemain beta and never finished.

I am I the only one who thins Home is awesome...

Yeah there aren't many things to do yet, but just talking with other people that I know and doint things with people out of my friends list is really fun.

I think Home is actually going to be quite popular once there is more content ^^ And hehe I have the Summer house for Free :D

Yesterday i was thinking : 'Damn im an idiot im really liking HOME' @_@
Yeah, i said it : I LIKE IT :lol

Well, I'll reserve my opinion of Home until June.

If I get to attend a virtual E3 like they promised, I DO think that would be awesome and I would be a believer in Home and its potential in the future.

Right now.....no.

And by the way, is Resistance 2 coop a game launching option yet? Or is it still Warhawk only?

And by the way, I think seeing the Warhawk room might also make me a believer with the whole strategy room thing going for it.

R2 is not supported yet ;_;

Besides the network errors to get in,the thing that i disliked most is : the users
Too many cursing and insulting, and like 10 guys running behind a 'girl'

The people that will stick to home will at least get rid of the bitter gamers. I doubt the ones complaining will spend much time in there and that's for the best.

Thanks for the heads up, I was going to run this tonight with my kids (2 and 4), now i'll pass and check it out this weekend.

Back to letting them customize their NXE avatar for the billionth time....

Just don't put your headset on...

You can't make dirty words with your keyboard ^^

+ Scored 290 on the fountain UFO game in the main plaza.
- Checked out the Far Cry or Uncharted spaces.

So the US Home already has all that, huh ?

Europe still has the old beta then. Nothing is new. Nothing.

Yeah you can ;_;
Really im amazed about the bad manners and rude behavior of almost everyone.
What the hell happened people !!!
I was thinking on showing HOME to my little cousins... :(

Really??? Don't you get something like *******?

Hmm anyhow I didn't see anyone using 'dirty words' yet.

Only seen **** so far. Anyways, I also believe there's the harsh truth that the frequency of **** is quite higher in US Home (seemed so from my visits). Been visiting all three major Home regions today without a problem, we will see if the servers hold up this afternoon.

Exactly, the game spaces are something most people will check out once (and not even experience everything in it due to stuff being occupied) and that's it. I feel sorry for the developers wasting resources on creating these.

Well ive seen this kind of things:
Instead of stupid you can write stoopid, and that kind of things.
(I use stupid as example because i dont want to write a dirty word)

I mean i dont want to be a party crasher or anything like that, but maybe i should report them v_v

Home, to me, is only fun with people I know, or are on my friends list. I'm not into talking to random people who may or may not be mentally developed.

Gibb said:
so many possibilities for this.. they'll get there.. I'm confident.
Yeah,i think the same.

They should make something like a Amateur Dev room or something like that.
HOME is perfect to bring indie games to the masses.

Last night I was called a homosexual slur repeatedly for playing pool when 2 other guys wanted the table. So I started saying this really dumb taunts over the mic, and I could hear him losing it on the other end. He said he reported me for "being a douche bag".

My HOME experience thus far

- I didn't even try to get this up and running during the release period for obvious reasons. It does launch a heck of a lot quicker than the closed beta.
- did have disconnect errors when I tried to navigate through the PDA. No errors going to the Uncharted and Far Cry 2 gamespace but did get disconnected when trying to get to my own appartment. Any HOMIES have the same experience?
- The saucer game was ok. Its just for time pass. I would like more games in the Central area. Its great when your downloading something in the background.
- echochrome was good and I like that you win prizes. I would love to see a dedicated Arcade. Not a fan of waiting to play so I hope there is a better solution like running multiple instances of a game. Namco Museum is going to be great! Come on Phil, bring us an ATARI arcade in HOME. Same thing goes for CAPCOM and SEGA.
- although I expected heavy marketing in the gamespaces, I don't think I saw any screens for trailers. I bet Spike TV would have loved to promote the VGAs @ Sully's Bar with the Uncharted 2 teaser! So much sales potential in these gamespaces.
- Regarding the price of HOME furniture and clothing items, Sony has to pay the bills somehow.

If they keep it interesting by updating the game spaces, let's say for new titles or DLC, then why would that be a waste?

With the current features, it might be just a point of interest, but they could (and hopefully will) do much more with those game spaces.

Why is the Europe/Aus Home so lacking compared to the US one? Isn't Home developed in Europe?
Same as always, languages.
SCEE have to cover lots of different languages and laws. Its a huge task.
Next week they will add the Uncharted room and more

Almost every single Sony published software in portugal is translated/dubbed to portuguese, but Home is in spanish >:(

Well I wish Australia wasn't bundled in with Europe for stuff like this.

Tried connecting last night about 50 times, kept getting a D3505 error when signing in to Home. PSN connection was stable at the time. Yeah, I realize it's beta and all that, just kinda disappointing. Hopefully it's just first-day jitters, with a bajillion people trying it out.

I live on South America which is worst since we dont have any representation.
My PSN account is under Spain. so... im bundled with Europe.

Seems to be running fine this morning (uK)

Things that bother me :

Having to switch theatre rooms just to watch a different video feed. I should be able to choose want I want to watch from the same screen via a simple menu option, with categories like movie railers, misc, etc etc. Right now it's too much hassle waiting for the loads in between entering and exiting a screening. If it stays like this I wouldn't even consider doing any sort of video streaming via Home. And where the hell are my pause/stop controls? Honestly the whole theatre setup is so terribly designed it's unreal.

In fact fuck all that give me a projector item and screen I can hang in my own personal space so I can watch these feeds without going anywhere.

Secondly is it just me going on about performance? i'm seeing next to no complaints here on the framerate/amount of stuttering. I think it's pretty bad and it's starting to bug the shit out of me. In fairness this could be lag/server related and may pass while the load on the servers are balanced out, but to me it seems to be linked to the amount of HDD access. Any time I enter a new area the framerate really bogs down while everyone's avatar loads up. Once the hDD light stops blinking it does smoothen out but even then just walking around I get frequent stuttering specially during crowded places. And there's no good reason why walking past a stream that's just started should result in a half second stutter. Happens every time. If there's no solution to this i'd rather have some kind of LOD sliders or just choose to see everyone walking around in their initial hologram phase which I think looks pretty cool. (I wish there were more archetypes to choose from, not really digging the 'realistic' look they've gone for)
