PS3 Home Official Thread

Also, how do you 'home hop' between regions?
l

you don't
you can access any region of HOME by creating a PSN account for that region

when ppl talk about region hop, they mean 1 account with access to any regions
which was possible at the verrrrry beginning of the beta

thx for the replies guys.

sony really needs a better way to keep ppl inform of these updates
didn't even know of ANY of the stuffs shown on this page

Though most of this unknown stuff is Japan-only so far. I guess the Capcom airship could come to us, too. Blame the Japanese GAFers for not telling us, I had no idea there was a Mainichi Issho/Toro space with characters of the franchise walking by.
btw IIRC you can see the airship from the Home Plaza, similar to how they showed Cocoon in the sky around the release of FFXIII. I forgot to take a picture.

Does anyone know what happens to Home unlocks if you move to a different PS3? I'm just curious, probably going to be picking up a Slim soon (Lower power consumption, plus I really want to preserve my US 60GB launch model) and wondered if the unlocks are tied to my PSN account and will be available on a new unit?

I haven't logged in since launch, is it a vibrant community these days? What's the dealio

There is people everywhere every time I check it out. It's amazing how opposite to what people think about Home popularity the actual Home experience is. I mean, you read on GAF "Home? LOL" and yet you get there and there are dozens of people in every single space. Playing, chatting, showing off costumes like it's all good and great with Home.

Perhaps it's like on the Titanic. People are unaware of what's going on :lol

I think things you unlock and buy in Home are registerd to your account but all the furniture you have placed out and what clothes you are wearing are saved on the HDD. So if you buy a new PS3 you still have all those items but you might have to refurnish everything, I'm pretty sure it works that way but I'm not 100%.

Everything is saved server side. I switched from fat to slim without losing anything. IIRC I only had to recreate my avatar and redecorate the personal space, but the content to do so was already there.

It would be great if Sony could go out with new numbers on Home. Maybe open people's eyes.

On a sidenote, I've actually bought a costume. The Bioshock Big daddy costume! Laugh at me all you want, I am awesome.

Oh, that is an awesome costume indeed. I've seen it while roaming the ModNation Space.

I agree about the numbers. They should be making quite some money looking at all the premium content I see on people.

found the airship in the sky (well, once it arrives you can't really miss it ^^) + some more pics

Capcom's airship flying around over the Japanese Home Plaza:

(btw look at the video/ad screens on it, first time IMO you can take pictures of one)

found a picture I took from FFXIII's Cocoon in Home back then:

cinema on the airship:

(stars are moving and look kinda nice in motion)

second space of the soccer stadium:

also has a photobooth:

Predator costume is kinda neat:

(an Alien is chilling in the back as well)

old but Japanese-only: Sony's Lounge (with music)

R-Type:

(you can launch a laser attack ^^)

funny how different the graphics quality of the spaces can be, the LBP space is probably the best at the moment.

edit: andriasang had an article about Capcom's airship and it's content:
http://www.andriasang.com/e/blog/2010/05/20/capcom_home_lounge/
Capcom seems to be very into it, the article says Japanese players will only get the MH&KZ DLC for Lost Planet 2 via the airship store in Home.

So true.. The reason why I never tell people about home is because whenever I do, people make fun of me and in the future discredit everything I say. Oh, she has bad taste because she likes home!!

I like home for mini games and new spaces. Not much into meeting people online, but sometimes you do run into real nice people and have great conversations with them. But game spaces, and mini games with awards is where the real fun is! I loved the Xi thing, and I hope they do something like that again. Mini games, text based adventure games, solving puzzles, and the group puzzles were so awesome.

Anyone else get sent a voucher code for a golden slim PS3 statue for Home? I got one because I have been buying a load of stuff and making the most of PSN for a while, apparently.

The link says something about 'best customer'. :lol

It's supposed to go out to anyone with a PSN account that is at least 1 year old

Lol. They could have just said that instead of making me think I'd earned it. I've had a freaking PS3 since the EU launch and only now Sony are saying thanks. :lol

Ah well. Sony should do this more often though. These things don't take much to do, and they track a ton of stats. Maybe they could put Trophies into Home, or give out little rewards like this for spending a lot of time in there or a lot of money on the store.

Well, I according to a Mod on the EU forums they are sending out the first codes to the "best" users, so :P

Have you bought tons of shit on PSN?

Yeah. Loads of PS1 classics and PSN games. I have Vidzone, I've bought stuff in Home, take part in the challenges, download from the video store etc. I only have one Mini though, and thats Kahoots. Brilliant little game. Dirt cheap too! Pegbeast cracks me up.

New patch that cuts load times even further, hopefully to acceptable levels. :)

Global Changes

Improvements
• We have reduced the time Home takes to start up. After installing and loading the patch for the first time, subsequent loads will be significantly quicker from then on.
• We’ve also improved the 3D audio positioning for stereo and 5.1 surround sound.

Bug Fixes

• Fixed a bug that could cause large files to be improperly cached.
• Fixed a bug that would prevent you from changing the size of the cache under certain circumstances.
• Fixed a bug that could cause a crash when taking photographs.

Same here. FIX THIS SHIT GG!
I worked my way around it now tho.

Press circle when the update comes (which logs you out from PSN), then Home will try to start anyways so just wait til it prompts you to log in again. Then the patch should work.

Edit: Maintenance? ALL DIS 4 NOTHIN'.

Very cool, will try.

*facepalm*

You'd think after 3 years somebody on the dev team would realise they're missing.

At least now a lot of spaces have music or "loud" environment noises so there it feels better walking around.

The patch is not working.

As in, the PS3 reboots when I press OK to download. Three times in a row now.

Same for me, but I just deleted 1.35, and reinstalled and then it worked to upgrade to 1.36, however its down for maintanance.

True, but... maybe it's just me, but the lack of footsteps adds to the lifelessness of Home in a really big way. It doesn't feel like you're in the world at all.
Nitpicking? Yes.

Hi everyone,

We've identified the cause of the patching problems some int he community are experiencing. Please note the below before attempting to apply the 1.36 patch on your system:

When greeted with the 1.36 Patch notification screen, wait for the yellow HDD activity light on your PS3 to stop flashing before pressing any buttons.

Once the yellow HDD access light has stopped blinking, press [CROSS] to start the install process. The update patch download should then begin as usual.

If you press any buttons before the yellow HDD access light stops flashing, your PS3 will restart and you will need to repeat this process from the beginning.

No it's not just you. I can understand not hearing the footsteps of other users, but in the early Home days I sometimes thought my audio is off because there was nothing to hear.
I only mentioned the spaces with music etc. because there you don't really notice the missing footsteps.

btw. I didn't get a code, I feel left out so I would appreciate if someone has a spare code :D
Though maybe it will be included into these download-free-Home-items-websites anyway, or was that just due to a bug?

Wow. The loading in Home is much more acceptable than a few months ago. The initial load is seriousl. Quick, and jumping between spaces is quick also. Well done Home crew.

Avatars are still a bitch to load though.
