PS4 gets a new, lower price starting Friday: $349.99

If you're including all the smaller indie titles, sure. But more isn't better imo and I'm not huge fan of indies.

"If you include all the measurements that make sense, then sure. If you go by the measurements that only *I* use, then no."

On Topic: I guess the Destiny PS4 isn't discounted, huh?

Yes that is what I am saying.
PS3 2008 Jan-Aug 2018500
PS4 2015 Jan-Aug 2005000

PS3 sold more in 5/8 months. PS3 was still 400-500 in price back then which is about 450-550 in today's money
Both PS4 and XBO were also very front-loaded in sales. And that number you have there is literally a difference of less than 14,000 units, you make it sound like it's a crisis.

Yes PS4 has needed a price cut by now but not because it's selling "far below PS3 levels in the same time frame", which isn't even anywhere near true if you adjust the numbers to follow the selling curve of the PS3.

Anyone know where to get a new PS4 for $349.99 with free shipping and no tax? I live in CA...

Fist off, is that Canada or California?

Unfortunately, I don't know of any places that will give you free shipping and no tax, but with the deal I found (I posted this a few post above yours), you can get a PS4 for just $332. Now, you will still need to do shipping and tax, but I wonder if you'd end up spending less than $349.99. Perhaps you could think of that discount as a way to negate shipping/tax?

In case it hasn't been mentioned, Target is honoring the $50 gift card still, even with the price cut, so you're basically getting a PS4 Uncharted or Destiny bundle (if you can find one) for $300 + tax.

Last of Us bundle works too, $349 + $50 gift card. When I was at Target, and on Target.com, the Destiny bundle was still $399 while the others had been marked down, so YMMV on that one.

Got my Uncharted bundle in-store.

They had to manually trigger a price update in the system.

I just tried and failed to do this. Pretty annoyed.

Like I mentioned in my post, they have to do a store-by-store update on the price.

I went to one store that had it updated, but didn't have any bundles available yet.

The second store had bundles, but didn't have the price update yet. (Until they triggered it by doing something with the price gun.)

Once that was done, everything was automatic. It rang up as 349.99, and automatically prompted for the gift card.

Not sure if Abdiel is reading this thread, but it'd be great to hear about today's PS4 sales with day 1 of the price cut. This being said a review of the week end on Monday might paint a better picture, if he'd be willing to share of course :)

Really interested to see what our retails friends have to say. Hopefully they'll give us an update after the weekend and after a week.

How is 500%, 279%, 270%, 60% on 4 different bundles not amazing?

It's definitely responding well. I LOVE looking at the amazon hourly charts from time to time but in no way should anyone use it as an indicator. Amazon is still a very small percentage of game and console sales.

Well there's no way they were going to make it even less than the $20 difference when converted because of Canada's proximity to the US. At that point everyone in the US would just import from Canada.

The Xbone bundles are $350 which works to $270 US and they don't sell as much as the $450 PS4s. Not on Amazon.ca anyway.

go back. the website is updated now with 349.99 and GC. sucks that they wasted your time.

destiny bundle isn't supposed to be marked down. its an LE console. if the msrp pricing is in line with other LE bundles 399.99 should be the normal price. it was just already listed at that price because it was a discount advertised in the weekly ad that just so happened to coincidence with the ps4 price drop

Rang up at $349.99 and got the $50 Target gift card. I was going to wait until next year, but couldn't pass up what essentially amounts to a $300 PS4 now.

It's been a pretty busy weekend. Very busy.

Lots of PS4s going out the door. Talk about a kick start right before the holiday season kicks into full gear... It's going to be crazy.

(sigh) At least the overtime will be nice for my paychecks.

That sweet, sweet overtime moneys.... But yeah from what I remember from retail during the holiday and pre holiday season, it's like passing a kidney stone. Hope it doesn't drive you too crazy, sir!

Hard to say but the Xbox One went down to $329 and had giftcards and offered other games as well.

Trust me. Black Friday will offer lots of value for both systems
I got an Xbox last year but looking to finally make use of my PS + subscription. I have like 40+ games waiting lol

Thanks for the update Abdiel, much appreciated as always.

Interestingly, I thought that with their crazy offer Target would run out of stock, but it's still available online for now (and in store for pick up apparently).
Huge stocks, or it didn't catch on fire for whatever reason.

I always like your insight man thanks for that.

Well the price drop + $50 gift card deal at Target was enough to get me to pull the trigger. They had one last Uncharted bundle by the time I got there after work. Guy in the Electronics Dept seemed be very familiar with the deal, so I'm assuming they already sold quite a few. I suppose there'll be better deals during Black Friday, but I know I'll be working that week and probably won't have the energy or patience to hunt through the deals. Plus this deal wasn't too shabby.

I'm looking forward to replaying these games. When Uncharted 2 came out I remember rushing through it on a weekend, so it would be nice to replay it at a slower pace this time and take it all in.

I can't speak for Target, but with our stores, Sony has been very, very good about keeping our stocks regularly maintained and properly topped up, keeping up with expectations.

They have become very, very efficient and effective at making sure we always have the stock we need, whenever we need it. We had plenty of inventory of all of our models prior to the price drop hitting, even without our being informed it was coming.

I imagine they must have been working with our stock management teams at a higher level to provide the necessary stock without publishing it at the retail level.

I always like your insight man thanks for that.

No problem. Glad to provide what info I can. I like reading the discussion here.

Thanks for your insight once again, Abdiel. Sounds like the PS4 is selling very well after the price drop went live. I definitely think it's possible that the PS4 takes October as well now, but I'll wait for Halo 5 launch week to make my predictions. Also, if you don't mind, how is the XB1 selling by comparison?

Well, it recovered from things after the whole tv deal, in terms of how drastic the drop off was. Back to relatively normal levels, though that's still behind 'normal' PS4 levels.

We've got pre orders coming up for the Halo Bundle on the 20th... But I mean, we're still taking orders for those, so it's not like we've hit any kind of limit or cap. And they certainly aren't pushing the Destiny bundle numbers from last year, if you want a comparison.

Though, interestingly, I checked this for my district, and we've got almost as many orders of Halo 5 as we do for CoD on the XB1, though PS4 orders of CoD are still higher. (Halo outweighed Battlefront on XB1 though, for further interesting anectdotes).

Here's a direct link to the Newegg deal: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Combo...40&cm_sp=Homepage_FDD-_-P1_2531840-_-10102015

So, the PS4 is $349.99 (obviously) and the TV is $369.99. Without the deal, you'd pay $718.99, saving you $119.00. Despite that, I don't personally think this deal is all that great. It's a 43" TV (that doesn't have internet connected features), which is not all that big by today's standards. At this point for not all that much more (maybe a couple hundred) you can probably get both a PS4 and a better and bigger TV than Newegg is offering here. At least the TV is from a name brand (LG). But, if the size of the TV (and lack of internet connected features or more than two HDMI outputs) is not an issue, I suppose it's a decent deal. Maybe it will be big with students in dorms.

Thanks, I'm surprised that the Halo 5 XB1 bundle doesn't seem to get a lot of pre orders yet, though. It's only 9 days from release. The high price point is probably putting some people off. If you don't mind, it will be nice if you update us when Halo 5 launches.

You've got to wonder despite announcing several bundles, how come there is not a standard 500gb XBO + Halo 5 bundle for $349 or a 1tb XBO + Halo 5 + MCC bundle for $399....?

Exactly. MS should have bundled Halo 5 in $349 just like Sony did with Star wars along with limited edition.

Probably because Microsoft knows Halo will sell incredibly well and didn't want to spend money on aggressive Halo bundles. It does seem like a wasted opportunity to me too, but Microsoft seems to be playing it safe this holiday season.

Before I had an account I remember reading a post from Aqua where she said that MS was under pressure to start profiting from software sales, which meant they couldn't always be free pack ins with the console. If that was the case then that's why Halo 5 is only being given a premium bundle, because they want the vast majority of the games sales to be a $60 purchase.

It would also explain why Forza was given similar treatment with a limited edition bundle instead of a standard one.

The only games they're offering as pack ins this year are things that are well past their sales peak or third party games so I do think there might be merit to what she said.

I know amazon hourly charts are never entirely accurate, but I find it crazy that there are currently 4 PS4 bundles ahead of the first XB1 bundle so close to Halo 5 release.

I still think XB1 takes October but it's gonna be a lot closer than I imagined thanks to this price cut from Sony.

edit: I do find it very weird there is no 500gb Halo 5 bundle at all, maybe MS is waiting for black friday to do it?

I like that they advertise "single player campaign for all three games."

lol

Unless the new Tomb Raider and Nair are the greatest games of the generation I think it's safe to say that the XBONE is done.

Tomb Raider is a funny one. I expected it to be their de facto bundle this year, like AC was last year. TR isn't big in the U.S., where Xbox is big, so the hardware push would have helped the exclusivity agreement. All it has is a retailer exclusive bundle for a relatively small piece of the US retail pie though (I.e. not GameStop or Wallmart). It just makes the deal seem very strange to me, like both SE and MS have been very non committal with it. I wonder how prolific the bundle is in other countries because I could certainly see it doing well in the UK, where both brands are successful, but not mainland Europe where Xbox is like a leper.

I have the feeling the hype for Tomb Raider is relatively low, I don't know if the exlusitivity is the reason for that.

Well considering Tomb Raider started as a PC and PS franchise and most of it's fans played it on those platforms, yeah I think the hype is pretty low for RotTR. The majority of TR fans are waiting for it to come out next year on a platform they actually own.

I kind of have a crazy theory that Sony is just waiting for MS to drop the price of there bundles by 50 bucks so they can introduce the vanilla PS4 for 300 dollars this holiday.
