PS4 Pro boxes getting prepped

I really wish Sony would have included at least a 2tb drive like the Xbox One S. Eh oh well. Any good deals on good drives going on?

A 2tb Xbox One S is $400. A 1tb PS4 Pro is $400. If you really want 2tb, you can put one in the Pro, but Sony definitely made the right call on storage when you look at that price comparison.

just ordered Crucial MX300 750GB off Newegg.

I hope 3day shipping will have it here by Thursday... Election day has me a little concern.

plenty, basically any 2.5" laptop drives. People seem to really like the 2TB firecuda by seagate though.

There are lots of 2.5" drives that are too tall to fit. Stay at or under the 9.5mm limit, which currently eliminates any hard drives larger than 2TB (but it doesn't necessarily mean all 2TB drives will fit, be sure to check the height specifications.)

hmm i didn't know that, thanks. i'm mainly tempted for the firecuda if there will be performance gains to be had.

Hey guys,

One more question. I just put my original 500 GB hard drive that came with the PS4 back in and took the 1TB hard drive out. I had backed up the 1 TB one. Now I'm setting it up to sell (the guy agreed to pick up tomorrow). How do I get it set back up for him with the OS running? In Safe Mode, what do I choose?

Restore Default Settings?
Rebuild database?
Initialize PS4?
Initialize PS4 (Reinstall System Software)?

I looked around and WD has a 2TB 2.5" drive but its many mm tall to fit :(

not touching anything by seagate. I guess if I upgrade I'll do some sort of lateral upgrade like a 7200rpm 1TB Hitachi drive

It's a 5400rpm drive so yes.
HDD throughput performance is determined by...

  • The density of bits storage on the circular platters—called areal density.
  • The speed at which the platters rotate—called RPM.
The performance of a hard drive is most effectively measured by how fast data can be transferred from the spinning media (platters), through the read/write head and on to a host computer. This is commonly referred to as data throughput and usually measured in gigabytes (or gigabits) per second. In either case, data throughput is directly related to how densely data is packed on the hard drive platters and how fast these platters spin.
http://www.seagate.com/gb/en/tech-i...e-storage-is-not-about-rpm-anymore-master-ti/

You need to know the full platter configuration to estimate performance and there may be multiple suppliers.

Man I REALLY hope that someone buys my PS4 that I'm selling otherwise I won't be able to keep my preorder and I'll have to cancel. Still, this is super exciting and I can't wait for this to come out!

What do you have against Seagate? Their SSHDs and the 2TB MT9 (Samsung drive?) have been very popular with PS4 owners, including me.

I think on the Desktop side, Seagate HDDs has a little bit of a history of higher failure rates compared to other HDD brands.

Seagate hdd have gotten alot better in the quality department over the years hell the ps4 default hdd is a seagate hdd

Ps Pro is incredibly competitive price wise.

I had no idea Xbox One S could go up to $400.Why would anyone buy that in the presence of a Pro ?

Fuck it, I ordered a Pro. I'm mostly concerned with:

1. Best possible PSVR experience
2. FFXV best possible experience
3.
I'm always an early adopter of electronics and stuff.

I still wish Sony would come up with something that would passthrough HDR with the PSVR breakout box connected. I'm still upset about that.

Pro wasn't even on my radar, until today, when a co-worker made me an offer on my PS4 and I accepted. Now all I have to do is wait for its release and I can play again! Is Minecraft getting a patch?

Of all the games I'm going to try next Thursday I'm most excited for Shadow of Mordor. Game was super fun and looked great already. Can't wait to see what the Pro can do for that dark beauty.

God I'm now ps4less first time since launch day, I've been holding off playing games on my ps4 so have a stack ready to go on pro, trading in my trusty old ps4 was a sad feeling thinking of all the great games I've played on it since launch.

why did sony have to completely screw up an easy purchase for me by not including a 4k blu-ray player in this thing :(

that + the complete lack of any kind of trade in deals is making this a very hard purchase...

What a terrible idea. Who the hell wants a slowass 2tb drive? You should've went with the 500gb and waited for the 2tb sshd.

4K blu ray is the deal breaker?

September 8th.

So we ordered on the same day..strange :/ I mean you could try changing to morning express. maybe that'll help?

either-way, I hope you get yours this week :)!

Edit: Oh you're from Finland...okay, that explains the longer delivery time. Still I hope they deliver fast :)!

Since some people became so defensive after I called the KU6000 an unappealing entry level TV, here's a good review telling you why it's not a good 4K TV for HDR content.

I would avoid this TV and just save up for something that actually has good HDR performance.
Your elitist/arrogant views are boring me now. I calibrated the TV using that video and the picture looks brilliant. Of course it looks nowhere near as good as a 65" OLED panel, but it does the job well for me. I chose 40" because I'm not a rich bastard who can afford a mansion. My living room is fairly small. I think anything bigger than 40" would be too much. I'm happy with the TV I have for now.

The thing I care about most is speed and loading times. Is there a big speed difference between SSHD and SDD on PS4? Also what would you recommend to install on PS4 pro that is not more than $300?

I am not really looking to go over 1TB in storage as speed is my priority

The biggest difference is seek time for loading assets

Writing and general transfer speed are limited by the motherboard (based on what I saw for digital foundry's tests)

I've had an s since launch and used the uhd drive zero times, if it's that big a deal I wouldn't want a games console to be my player I'd want a real standalone unit.

So only loading would be faster? Installing/copying would be about the same?

Wait for DF to show their numbers and you'll have a definitive answer for PS4 Pro, rather than guesswork based on the PS4 testing.
