PS4 Pro boxes getting prepped

With my PS4 OG starting to show its age would it be wise to pick up a Pro even if I don't own a 4k display yet? I really would like to play games like FFXV at full quality/ performance.

Yeah, its worth it.

ARC, MHL and STB.

It doesn't really matter as apart from MHL they are essentially just there to allow the user to designate what will plug in where:

STB = Set Top Box
ARC = Audio Return Channel

MHL (Mobile High Definition Link) is a bit different as it allows for USB data to be sent so that something like a phone can output say your photographs to display on your TV via a micro USB to HDMI cable.

Understood, I was reading some online breakdowns and turns out all 3 HDMI ports are HDMI 2.0 Compliant, so that was my main concern, whether the non-yellow one's might be 1.4 or something.

Here is what I did last week before selling mine on Craigslist:

1) Made sure my saves were backed up

2) Deactivated my PS4

3) Went into the settings and "initialized" it. Chose the Full, not Quick option. That process took about an hour and a half to finish, and once completed, it has the PS4 so that when you power it on you're at the screen where it asks you to hook the controller to the system with the USB cable.....in other words, like you just bought it.

Thanks for the info!

Did you deactivate using the console or PlayStation's website?

That's a bit much.

All it would need is a slightly larger HDD bay.

Yes. You can fit a 3.5" HDD in the PS4 right now if you really wanted to.

It's not a "no way in hell" deal.

If you fit something to the top of it and have wires every where yeah but there is no way in hell that hard drive is going inside a ps4 pro.

That's as maybe, but they aren't going to suddenly stop using 2.5" drives after using them exclusively for a decade.

The cheapest 1tb 3.5" will also cost more for them to buy and will add more weight to the unit which might affect shopping costs.

With 2.5" drives they just buy a a truck load and out them in both slim and polished models.

There's already space for them in the OG models.

Do you mean OG PS2? Because PS3 and 4 do not have space for a 3.5 inch. People must be confusing 2.5 tall ones with 3.5 drives which are massive. The spec for a 2.5 is the standard drive. The tall ones don't fit the spec, based on what someone said in another thread. If they fit in your device, great, but the spec is the regular height drives.

As amusing as this talk of fitting a 3.5" drive in the original PS4 has been, isn't it already confirmed that the Pro is 2.5"?

The only question is whether it supports drives over 9mm thickness.

Yeah I was thinking of 15mm height drives instead of 3.5", my mistake.

Maybe Pro supports those?

I think Sony is actively discouraging 1440p because it doesn't scale well to 4K. So don't expect many games if any to use it.

This is not true. I play most of my PC games at 1440p scaled to my 4K TV, it looks fantastic. In fact it's hard to tell the difference between 1440p and 4K TBH. Especially if the game has decent AA>

802.11ac (faster wifi)
SATA3 (faster hard drive access/loading times)
1080p Supersampling (better graphics even with a 1080p display)

Put down my preorder for the pro at gamestop; the guy said if i wanted the standalone one or the ffxv one (he said that one comes later)... im pretty sure he must of been talking about the slim.. but who knows. Gonna pick mine up next thurs!

Let's hope so. I don't think that we've got confirmation of that yet. Hoping that one of the people who already got one and will be lifted of their NDA say more about this.

talks about PS4Pro......over a standard PS4 gameplay video of the last of us.....and says 4k4k4k4k4k, hype hype hype.....omg did I mention 4K?

who is this guy?

I'm hyped but holy crap I cringed at the commentary about him talking about native 4k and omg its amazing.

Yeah, my irony seems to have got lost in this thread, ah well.

All ready for mine next Thursday. I also got an email today from Amazon saying that the release date for Dishonoured 2 had changed from Friday 11th to Thursday 10th. HYPE.

I'm gonna be seriously jealous when dozens of random stores in the US break street dates and people are getting theirs days in advance, as seems to happen with most games these days.

Assuming I'll be able to walk into a Gamestop or Best Buy and buy this day of. Bad assumption? Worked with the VR Bundle in my area.
