I agree. Basically theyre gonna have their hands full with next months lineup. Possibly make it by the Ps4s one year anniversary maybe?Next week probably, if they want this update out before the biggest release of the year.

I assume that, due to the vast numbers of people who bitched about the regular PS3 firmware updates, Sony decided to listen to the people and so dramatically scaled back on the resources allocated to firmware updates.
Unfortunately, the people are dumb![]()
They need to get one
I assume it's because, unlike MS, they don't have an army of OS developers.
Funny thing is that some people who had a PS3 were really angry about Sony's regular OFW's and OS updates. MS updated OS every 4-5 months for X360 and everybody were happy. Now is the opposite and people are pissed at Sony.
I wonder if they are going to update the web browser to something that is a bit smoother to use. I don't own a PS3, but surely even PS3 had a better browser than this slow piece of shit.
This has been rehashed repeatedly already in this thread and elsewhere, but the situations are not comparable. People complained about the PS3 updates because they had no user-facing benefits, and you had sit through the download and install process seemingly every time you used your PS3 (for those of us that did not use it regularly). Neither is the case with the frequent xbox updates -- the benefits are clear to users, and the updates install while the system is in standby
It didn't help that Sony put the fix behind the PS+ paywall either (no longer the case w/ PS4)
This. Sony just needs to hire a American OS team who knows what they're doing.

Are we using the same browser? The PS4 browser works great.

There were quite a lot of user facing benefits early on link, but people love to complain about Sony.People complained about the PS3 updates because they had no user-facing benefits, and you had sit through the download and install process seemingly every time you used your PS3 (for those of us that did not use it regularly).

I'm happy with any update, also improving stability. I believe HW engineers know better when to update than a bunch of teenagers on the Internet, by a mile. Also I don't give a damn if you switch on your console once a year. It's your problem. This has been rehashed repeatedly already in this thread and elsewhere, but the situations are not comparable. Xperia UI is little more than the stock android UI. It's not like you can really mess that up. There is A LOT wrong with the PS4 UI like having to navigate a seemingly infinite horizontal row of games and apps with no logical organization.Really? Cause my Xperia phone and PS4 UI says different

It's from most recently used/updated to least used.
Quite logical.
Yeah they need to offer more view options. Their 2013 TV interface that the PS4 interface is based off of lets you turn off the Ad bar & the History bar (recently used tiles), hide apps from the app bar, move around the tiles in the app bar to your liking, and places the TV menu version of the Library as the first tile in the app area instead of the last. For the most recent few items, probably encompassing the last few times you've used the system, sure. But who the hell remembers or cares about what order they used things in last week?

Please stop repeating this, its a completley false comparison. MS frequency of updates deliver tangible change, its good and welcomed. PS3 updates were essentially invisible stability updates and were frequent, it was an annoyance. Absolutely different.Funny thing is that some people who had a PS3 were really angry about Sony's regular OFW's and OS updates. MS updated OS every 4-5 months for X360 and everybody were happy. Yes, you're right in one hand. But still....
I'm not implying anything, I'm categorically stating it. The PS3 firmware updates were frequent and brilliant. Obviously they petered off a bit towards the end once they'd implemented all of the cool stuff, but that goes without saying. I don't know if you bought a PS3 in the early days but the changes Sony brought to it through the firmware updates were massive.Scaled back? That would imply things were better before.
The first point is false, because the complaints flooded in even during the early days when the additions with each firmware update were massive. And to the second point, I guess those people must really be enjoying the approach Sony has taken with the PS4. They got their way.People complained about the PS3 updates because they had no user-facing benefits, and you had sit through the download and install process seemingly every time you used your PS3 (for those of us that did not use it regularly).

For a lot of people here, the question rather seems to be "Why aren't my priorities theirs?".The question is who owns it, not who is coding it.
What has the development team being in Japan got to do with anything? Assuming they have a prioritised list of features that need to be worked on, the problem is much more likely to be
- prioritised list doesn't accurately reflect what gamers want (problem with the product guys not the developers)
- not enough OS developers meaning slow updates. Problem with resourcing, not developers
- OS is complicated to update because it isn't isolated from the rest of the system like the Xbox appears to be. System architecture problem, not a problem with the developers.
Can we stop blaming 'developers are in Japan' as being anything to do with this? It is perfectly possible for someone in SCEA/SCEE to communicate clearly what is needed. The question is who owns it, not who is coding it.
It's not a problem. Embedded system allows to use more hardware resources for games. You bought a gaming console, use it for games. You want a media player, buy something else.- OS is complicated to update because it isn't isolated from the rest of the system like the Xbox appears to be. System architecture problem, not a problem with the developers.

I meant the system architecture would be the reason

It's convenient if your friend wants to demo a game with a ton of input lag added.
I don't say that trying to be a dick, it's just the truth. There is no way to stream a game and not have a noticeable amount of input lag. The further you are from that person the worse it's gonna be.

all will be happy next week...finally.

Anyone else noticed that the online web store has received a significant upgrade?
Loading screens are different and much faster, and you can actually check the progress of your remote downloads after setting them to go. It lets you know when it's ready to play.
...so now I know I can play Escape Goat 2 when I get home![]()
all will be happy next week...finally.
i knew of the other stuff (new loading screen, name chnage, icon change, snappier) but not this one :O
might have to check this out.
You sure about that?
God knows when this will become available.
Is there anything new added or the same stuff from the list that you know of?
if it didn't happen today then it will happen next tuesday/wednesday. of course im going on their quote of "biggest games of the year" and CoD qualifies as one of those.
Didn´t they release the first part of the patch notes last wednesday ?
I was expecting the next (or final) part today if the update should drop next week.
Even with some input lag, your friend will be in a better position to make an informed purchasing decision by being able to actually play it, rather than relying on word of mouth or website reviews.
