PS5 Pro Reveal Thread - Not Flops, TFlops

well, thats not his fault, is it? ND, SSM, GG, Sucker Punch, Bend, PD all refused to make next gen games at the start of this gen leaving him with just three next gen games from Insomniac and Bluepoint to show off his new tech.

Had Sony held an E3 conference showing new games, we might have seen some demos of new games, but these studios have nothing to show and left him out to dry.

Man is a genius at hardware but he needs software developers to take advantage of his tech. No one other than insomniac has used his SSD and IO tech to incorporate new gameplay elements. His so-called dream at the Road to Show simply didnt materialize outside of those two games and was turned into a fast loading gimmick for the past four years by 99% of the developers. Lets hope this hardware doesnt rely on devs, and his PSSR solution simply runs all fidelity modes at 60 fps without looking softer than regular fidelity modes. Even steve jobs relied on software for his amazing products, but he had industry leading developers doing amazing things. Cerny has no control over sony first party. Thats all herman and jimbo.

Of course not. This was Sony doing. I like Cerny as much as you do, but he can't make miracles and the only thing he can do is on the hardware base level, nothing to do with the lack of software and that stupid price target.

And I agree with you. They need those stupid devs that keep 24 hours on social media to do a software.

but a 4090 runs circles around a ps5 pro.. like superman circles when he is reversing the spin of the earth..
Also can set your house on fire like superman too.

I like PC gaming, prefer console as it has gran turismo and Final Fantasy without the swathes of pc induced bugs.

More than I expected to pay but the image quality of a lot of 3rd party games of late has been really, really disappointing for me so I'll probably grab this to play a heap of games I bought and shelved.

I just want to say that compared to that unending, boring, 100 minute slog all to announce a phone with an extra button yesterday, a 9 minute video that immediately announced the thing we all wanted to see and showed all the relevant info was so welcome. CernGOD as usual has his finger on the pulse.

how do you think the internet is reacting..... bruh. PS need a proper showcase ASAP

Yeah way too expensive, I'd rather put that money towards a PC.

Also with Sony pricing policy for Latin America it's probably going to be the equivalent of $850 + tax around here

Fomo gets everyone. This thing will sell out and scalpers will push the price to 1k
Not when your only missing out on an up res and fps boost.

Not many will be willing to pay triple the cost of the base console just for that. There is no killer app to go with it.

Just look at the broad response to the base price here, and we are the target audience.

Apparently the PS4pro was 20% of the market so I suspect they expect something along those same lines.
I was keeping that in mind, but the PS4 Pro came out at $100 more than PS4 launch price, right? 20% is plausible, I believe 10% to be more probable. Just my guess though.

I wonder if they are depending of the Concord to show what PS5pro can really do.

Man, what a disappointment. Not a single fucking new game.

It's 2x more powerful at 2x the price plus whatever you will need to spend on a CPU to ensure it doesnt bottleneck RT/Path tracing and CPU heavy games like Space Marine.

Of course, not excusing the PS5 Pro price but in terms of dollars you get what you pay for.

Brilliant post.

They put a fucking 2 TB Drive in, that's why the price Sky rocketed

Interesting. They could've stuck with 1 TB and probably gotten it to $599 or $649.

I wonder if Microsoft had an idea on the price (maybe they knew the Pro would go for 2 TB) and that's why they felt comfortable with that "new" Series X at $599? Which is still a ridiculous price for just the same system with 1 TB more space.

To me the Pro being $699 isn't a problem; the issue is I don't think that presentation was enough to convince some prospective buyers it's worth $699. On paper it being more powerful than the PS5 and running games better should do the trick, but diminishing returns is real and a lot of would-be buyers have probably seen enough of these games on good PCs to make the PS5 Pro improvements (at least those shown today) not seem as impressive as they otherwise would've.

So then when you enter that $699+ pricing territory, combined with all the other stuff this gen (console prices going up, subscription prices going up, 1P games getting ported to PC anyway etc.), suddenly PC starts to look like a viable upgrade option to at least weigh & consider.

And then with no new games used to show off in the presentation outside some seconds of AssCreed Shadows which, well, appears pretty contentious), it actually feels a bit like how Microsoft pushed the Series X & S at launch. Although what they did was quite worst, as that was literally the start of a new generation but launched on selling how well those systems played old games better. The Pro's just a midgen upgrade but, at $699, probably wouldn't of hurt to get a hype new game (preferably 1P) to tease to show off its power, y'know?

A high price but it is a premium product at a premium price for enthusiasts and those that want the best. Typical Apple pricing strategy at play for new products. Hopefully next year it will be cheaper and there will be some excellent new AAA games that take advantage of it.

You're expecting a price drop only a year from launch? That's only gonna happen if sales are extremely slow (which for SIE's internal targets, they probably won't be).

Arn't they at TGS and have a showcase coming up? I'd expect new stuff shown before release surely

But how TGS can show what really PS5pro can do?

They can't sell a new hardware without a new software.

On pc its very cpu heavy, and pr0 has same cpu as base ps5 just with tiny overclock, maybe we could hope for 40fps mode if that.

Yikes, given that every title shown except that was shown to run 60fps, it makes the value proposition even worse.

I'm more looking forward toward Switch 2. I'll happily skip this generation of PS5.

That's are comparing just one part of a PC with a full console. The 4090 is a paperweight by itself.

How do you have the nerve to show this console with THAT fucking price point with NO new games or even showing any game taking full advantage of it.

Also, the YEN price converted to USD is $834! Can't make this shit up.

This is hilariously bad. 😂

'Playstation Super Spectral Resolution'......WTF is this? Blast Processing in 2024?

Blast Processing was real. It was just so complex that few retail games took advantage of it. Also AFAIK the means to actually leverage it (it involved DMA tricks) wasn't officially documented by SEGA.

But the homebrew scene's been proving it's real and it does excellent stuff in the right hands. PSSR should be much easier to use in retail commercial products, so not an apt comparison.

Gonna be funny when all the cope is wiped away and we finally accept that the only way to play GTAVI at launch at 60fps is on the PS5 pro, for like a year.

I guess they will do something more cheaper, but not much and with the 2tb SSD

Still, I can't believe the first game of the PS5 Pro to show it's capabilities was Last of Us 2, a PS4 game. That shows how Sony is more arrogant than ever. I'll stick with the base console

awkward d&d GIF by Hyper RPG

Do you honestly think R* will have GTA6 running at 60fps on the Pro? Bless...

You'll need to rebuy the remastered fat arse edition for the PS6 to get that sweet 60fps

People forget, for the first year the ps5 was being sold for close to $1k by scalpers and selling out. Sony literally dropped a ps5 for $699 with double the SSD storage and a better GPU. They know it’s going to be niche and sell to that market regardless of the price.

never underestimate the ebay scalpers.
I don't think scalpers will make much from this console because it already has a high price plus there isn't any big releases to drive the hype for it. The PS5 was brand new at the time this is just a slight upgrade.

Lack of competition. It happens when you have people , time and again showing they are not good enough to elevate the platform so instead they keep the people in charge and try different strategies, second guessing at every turn.

The better performer loses the incentive to push themselves more than if a competitor was firing on all cylinders
