Starting with tomorrow’s release of Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 for PC, we’re working to add more benefits to playing with an account for PlayStation Network. The Last of Us Part II Remastered (coming April 3, 2025), in addition to God of War Ragnarök and Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered, will all soon be adding in-game content unlocks for PlayStation Network account users.

An account for PlayStation Network will become optional for these titles on PC. Players who still opt to sign into a PlayStation Network account will also enjoy added benefits like trophies and friend management.

Details on new benefits for players who opt to sign in with an account for PlayStation Network:

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2:

Early unlock suits: the Spider-Man 2099 Black Suit and the Miles Morales 2099 Suit

God of War Ragnarok:

Gain access to the Armor of the Black Bear set for Kratos at the first Lost Items chest in the Realm Between Realms (previously only accessible in a New Game+ run) and a resource bundle (500 Hacksilver and 250 XP)

The Last of Us Part II Remastered:

+50 points to activate bonus features and unlock extras

Jordan’s Jacket from Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet as a skin for Ellie

Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered:

Gain access to Nora Valiant outfit

Game creators at PlayStation Studios will continue to work on bringing more benefits to players who sign up for a PlayStation Network account, so be sure to follow studio channels for more information. You can find more details on account sign-in at our website.

Thank you to our PlayStation PC fans around the world for your support.

Yeah, this is how you do it. Make it optional but put a little bait there to entice people to make a PSN account.

Gentlemen, we can rebuild it. We have the capability to make the world's first enhanced store. Steam will be that store. Better than it was before.
I mean that's cool that it's still optional, but their "incentives" are things that you could probably already find on Nexus mods or by using cheat engine.

Good, a lot of people either hate having additional accounts or live in one of the countries where you can't register one.
Sony isn't stupid and noticed how it cut into the profits. If they suddenly turned into geniuses, how about Bloodborne already?

I will now buy the Zero Dawn upgrade I guess.

Why not make Bloodborne 2 PS6 launch-exclusive, like Demon's Souls for PS5?

PC gamers are already starting to build a PS library, possibly with PSN account and trophies and all. They might be halfway there anyway.🤷🏾‍♂️

This is wrong. I heard that Sony was giving up PC ports. I heard it here on neogaf.
Without finding a better way to get PC players to sign-up to a PSN account en-masse the strategy of PC ports becomes riskier not less. PC is not just about making money from selling games to a VERY cost conscious audience, but services revenue...

Making signup optional and giving additional benefits is not a show of strength.

Just release Stellar Blade on Steam and give a bunch of sexy outfits to those that want to sign in their PSN accounts.

MAU skyrockets, players are happy, everyone wins.

Sure, but it is sidestepping the point. IF PC games completely reject PSN (which is why they are doing this), you are not going to see more and closer to day 1 titles on PC aside from maybe a few "attempts" and live services games.

i think you're missing the point: 40% of the gaming audience on PC.

You are missing the point, audience does not necessarily mean money. Look at money spent in apps on Android vs iOS.

PC games tend not to like to spend money on subscriptions to play online (do not have to), they tend to be more price conscious (full price titles day 1... eh...), and the revenue they get from those players per game is only 70% on their own titles and 0% on third party compared to consoles (on top of not having any service revenue).

If players reject PSN accounts they will not flock en-masse to a PlayStation PC Store either... come on...

LMAO, good boys Playstation/Sony, i will still keep my PSN account on PC so you can use it to grow your MAU numbers.

But for TLOU 2 tho, Spiderman 2 is ZZZZ

there is a synergy to it. if you have strong first-party content, not only with our console but also other platforms like computers, first-party can be grown with multi platforms and that can help operating profit to improve

Will this porting PS exclusives to PC madness ends with the new management shakeup? Sony has to really evaluate everything again, make new survey and analytics if PC really is practical despite the bad sales in Pc, and if its worth it to alienate Sony PS fans and blemish Sony's image as a place for great exclusives.

Makes sense. Dunno why they didn't think to have this stuff ready to go immediately. Guess they thought PC gamers wouldn't mind another login...

They are making easy money and the only alienated Sony PS fans are the console-warriors. Everyone else sees this as a win for both sides.

not one sony exec has said anything against pc ports. ALL recent playstation figureheads have public statements in favor of it. the newly-appointed Sony CEO Totoki is the most outspoken:

IMHO, it's a matter of years to have a Sony PC Store to rival Steam.
Season 6 What GIF by The Office

They want to incentivize players on PC to purchase their products, not chase them away.
That is why their titles don't even incorporate any shitty DRM for instance.

There aren't any benefits to launching a store on PC, when people are already hesitant to even create a PSN account.

Steam is where the players will be, with that platform growing each and every year.
And that is where they should be focusing their efforts, not some shitty thrown together Playstation store that nobody on PC is waiting for.
