Me too. What format(s) does 5.50Gen support?

It's supposed to support the same formats. My videos were AVC/AAC made with 3gp, custom ini.

Videos being unreadable i switched back to 5.0 m33-6 with recovery flasher.

Don't hold your breath for CFW 6.0

After waiting so long for 5.55 and it not happening, I'm starting to believe it'll never happen at this rate.. I don't get DAX's reasoning of not doing upgrades purely for games, its not like having CFW automatically makes you a pirate...

There wasn't a firmware for 5.55 because there wasn't a 5.55 eboot. 5.55 was UMD only. There wasn't a way to decrypt the firmware. No way to decrypt the firmware files, no custom firmware.

6.0 will happen, if not from DAX, GEN will make it. Someone will step up to make it.

As for DAX's reason for not releasing certain firmwares, he didn't do them because they weren't worth the time (the majority of the PSP firmwares have had nothing but useless updates). It wasn't until recently that we started running into this problem with games. There was always a way around the firmware requirement.

Hrm, that sucks. I use 3GP with a custom ini too.

Uh, it's going to come from someone. If neither Dark_Alex nor Team GEN make a 6.0 CFW, someone else will step up to the proverbial game.

I know this is going to happen, but it seems that the length of time between updates, coupled with DA going "dark" has made people skeptical that we'll see a future update.

I just updated to GEN-B2, and everything I have on PSP is working great. No issues whatsoever, and now I can play the MGS PeaceWalker demo on my 2000 and 1000 for some co-op action.

But what I'm surprised about are the FULL SCREEN PSONE GAMES ON TV OUT. :O When did this happen? Is it a GEN feature or a regular OFW feature from a post-5.00 update? This is awesome!! :D

My PSP-1000 is annoying now... the hinge broke on my UMD drive (surprise), and the analog stick has never been quite right. I think fixing it is even a bad idea since I superglued the faceplate on a few years ago to fix it when I broke one of the screw threads... anyways.... do I need to hunt down a PSP-2000 or will the 3000 be hackable? Is there a specific line of 2000s I have to hunt for?

That's...new? I haven't used the TV out feature so I don't know from experience, but I would have assumed that since the 2000 came out you could output anything fullscreen to the TV, including the PS1 games.

Probably wrong, though, judging from this comment.

At least PSP games didn't scale, leaving you with a smaller display window for the game than your TV's screen size.

I have no evidence to support this but a gut feeling. But I think shortly after the launch of the go, we will be hearing good things.

My brother has ask for help with his newly aquired psp 1003.

It seems to have a custom firmware on it (3.03 oe-c) that won't let him play some games.

He has tried to update to the lastest offical firmware but it won't work. Comes up with "the game could not be started"(dadadada)

How do you go about fixing this?

Cheers.

This.

I'm on 5.00 M33-6 and no end of version.txt alterations is giving me Peace Walker goodness. Is there an easy way to change to 5.50 GEN-A, which apparently works?

EDIT - Indeed there is. You just download the 5.50 GEN-A Update file (found here here, stick it in the Game folder on your memory stick and run the sucker. Very easy:lol

From there, go into the recover menu, and Enable Version.txt (under Configuration). Then, with your PSP USBed to your computer, go to Advanced -> Toggle USB (flash0). This'll open a folder on your computer with a text file named 'version' in it (it's under 'etc', you'll find it eventually). Replace the text in there with this:

and save. Back on your PSP, go up to Advanced Configuration, disable the plugins in there, and exit the recovery menu. When you get back to the XMB the Peace Walker demo should work perfectly.

This worked perfectly for me, thanks friend! :D

No, usually what happens is you get a border around games and (most) emulators. PSOne games were also like this for me until I went to GEN from 5.00 M33-6. I did notice that a few of the PSOne games I have still played with a border. Not sure why that is; maybe it's the way they were ripped.

Interestingly enough, it looks like GT has hit the Internet. I wonder if that will speed up a 6.00 CFW release....

ya i saw that but with the lukewarm reviews i guess there will be no big rush...i pulled the trigger on GEN A to run the peace walker demo...hopefully by the time gta chinatown comes out there will be a solution...

Well, the good news is that jas0nuk is back. He's been a pretty helpful dev in the decrypting and firmware scene. He's been away for a while. Hope he has some success in decrypting the 5.55 and 6.00 eboot.bin stuff.

Stupid question: I'm about to take the plunge and hack my PSP. UMDs kill the shit outta the battery, so I'm ripping them all to my memory stick. Now for my most recent purchases, Motorstorm: AE and Resistance Retribution, will their online play be affected at all by the CFW? I love playing both online and would hate to have to give it up.

Well considering Motorstorm requires 6.00 I believe...yes, you would be screwed, since no CFW is out that let's you play games that require OFW 6.00. Other than that, no, you should be able to play online with your ripped games (I've had no trouble playing my backups online, but that was awhile ago, so it may have changed)

Anyone tried to play Suikoden 2 on m33-6? I'd love to finish that game once & for all but if it's gonna crash like ff8, I won't :p

The new PSP Go supports savestates for regular games out of the box. Dark Alex made a Savestate plugin for the Slim models a long time ago, using the extra ram.

Since they're practically the same hardware, how hard would be for Sony to rollback the Savestate feature on Slim 2000s and 3000s?

Security reasons are enough that it's not gonna happen (Go stores this to internal flash). There could be other hw dependencies we don't know about as well that make it impossible.

Always been that way on my 3k - so it's definately an OFW feature.

At the moment you'll be giving up online and offline for Motorstorm. Resistance would be OK though.

Finished my own PSOne conversions of Suikodens 1 and 2 on my PSP earlier this year.
Suiko II can have issues in loading some FMVs, but as long as you save often, you should be fine. It has a small chance of crashing on FMVs.

I hear that some games require you to be at a relatively modern FW before you can go online. 5.50 Gen allows PSN access, and so, online gaming as well.

Thanks. Do you know what pops you used? 3.90 seems to be a good one according to the compatibility list I've seen online.

Well I said good-bye to my CFW PSP-2000 today as I handed it off the person who bought it from me. I realize I'm giving up alot of functionality but I also realize I barely took advantage of all that stuff anyway. The main reason I had CFW was so I could rip my UMD's to the memory stick and the Go is pretty much going to take care of that for me.

I put many a good gaming hour on my trusty 2000 and enjoyed it alot and the CFW was a large part of that. Hopefully the CFW scene can move up to 6.00 soon so everyone can play the newest games.

Okay I will try that, thanks. One other question about version.txt. Am I supposed to be creating a whole new version.txt file or just copying and pasting the changes into the already existing version.txt on flash0? I don't know if it matters or not but I just replaced the old file with a new one and made it read-only like the original.

You're supposed to hit up the properties of the existing version.txt, unchecking the read-only flag, then opening it up and pasting the contents of a newer version.txt (such as from FW 5.55), overwriting the old contents. Then save and close. No need to re-enable the read-only flag. Beyond all this, you have to browse to the relevant section of the recovery menu and actually enable the version.txt functionality.

I'm still mulling over whether to update mine to the official FW, I've already got Manhunter 2 ready which I managed to grab for free off the EU PSN store the other day, and the thought of not being able to play Motorstorm whens it's out is a worrying prospect, that's one of my favorite franchises.
